“Festival of Two Palettes” VISITORS to Morpeth during March will have the opportunity to stimulate their both their mind and their tastebuds during the “The Festival of Two Palettes” held annually at Campbell’s Store in Swan Street Morpeth. The nationally acclaimed annual event will be held on Saturday and Sunday March 14 and 15 and will bring together 12 of Australia's best traditional artists and some of the Hunter region's finest produce in a culinary and artistic feast. During the two days visitors will be able to see renowned artists at work while they sip and graze their way through the event. Organiser Trevor Richards said there will be a smorgasbord of delectable delights on offer with award winning producers who make everything from chocolate to vinegar. Nicholson Fine Foods from the NSW North Coast will showcase their wares, described as an eclectic range of innovative food products. The company has won 28 fine food medals for their produce over the past two years, including awards for their fruit finishing vinegars, hibiscus flowers, Belgian chocolate mousse and a bio burger. Morpeth Ginger Beer Factory will hold tastings of its famous home style cordials and the team at Morpeth Gourmet Foods will have tastings of the first ever vanilla essence made in Australia and a local range of olives, oils and dukkahs. Morpeth Gourmet Foods will have some fabulous products at the tasting bar for visitors to sample. These will include Ian Morphy’s new Feijoa Jam & Chutney. Feijoa tastes like a cross between a peach/guava and pineapple. It is sweet and delicious on toast as a jam or with hot and cold meats as a chutney. Mr Morphy and his wife Jenny (former owners of East Maitland’s Old George and Dragon Restaurant) have moved to the Southern Highlands but are producing their products using local Hunter produce. Scorpion Foods magnificent mayo’s and dukkah will also be available at the tasting bar, along with the multi-award winning Simply Stirred original Caramelised Balsamic which include flavours like raspberry, soy and ginger. They also make magnificent Asian-inspired dressings. On the other side of the palette Morpeth Gallery's doors will be open with landscape and wildlife artists Ramon Ward Thompson, John Vander, and Still Life artist Ann Morton on hand demonstrating their skills. They will be joined by fellow artists Stephen Jessic from Queensland, John McCartin from South Australia and local Hunter artists Natalie Parker, James Hough, John Bradley and Bill Freeman OAM. All artists will have new original works on display and for sale. Mr Richards said each artist is widely published in calendars, children's books, greeting cards, open and limited edition prints and giftware.
