Spotlight on Students
Congratulations:
Senior Victoria Tutino was selected as the 1st place winner
in the annual Diocesan Pro Life Essay Contest. Victoria
will read her winning essay at the Pro Life Mass on March
25th .
Junior Nathaniel Bake has been accepted into the United
States Naval Academy Summer Seminar, a highly selective
and very intensive six day Summer Seminar that teaches
potential candidates about life at the Naval Academy.

A Note from the Principal
As we enter into the third week of Lent, it can
become difficult to remain focused on our goals
and plans to sacrifice, increase our prayer life and
works of love. St. Therese of Liseux reminds us
that it is in the small acts of kindness, shown to
one another, that we make God’s loves come alive
in our world. St. Therese encourages us to ―Miss
no single opportunity of making some small
sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly
work; always doing the smallest right and doing it
all for love.‖ May this be a source of strength and
encouragement to all of us as we continue on our
Lenten journey.

Mr. Ruggeiro’s 6th and 7th grade Religion classes showed
us the true meaning of giving during this Lenten season.
―Mr. R’s‖ classes coordinated a collection of over 100 bags
of clothing for the St. Vincent DePaul Society. When
interviewed by the Taunton Gazette, the students spoke
freely of their desire to live as Jesus taught and to give to
others.
Our entire school community is thanked for supporting the
―A Bed for Every Child” initiative created by the Mass
Coalition for the Homeless in 2011. By donating a portion
of our recent Valentine’s Dress Day, we were able to
donate $400 to ensure that homeless children have a bed to
sleep in at night.

ADJUSTMENT TO WINTER WEATHER ACCOMMODATIONS
This has certainly been a winter to remember! The good news is the meteorologists are telling us the
pattern is changing. Next week should be warmer with no precipitation in the forecast. Please note that
boots will no longer be allowed during the school day due to the wear and tear on the building. Now
that the extreme weather seems to be waning, we are returning to our policy of changing to shoes or
sneakers when students arrive and go to their lockers.
Some realities that will remain with us for some time are snow mounds, narrowed streets, and fewer
parking spaces. Because of these things, adjustments need to be made to personal schedules. Earlier
starts are a necessity for on time arrival at school. During the extreme weather we have been very
lenient with late arrivals. Although safety is always our primary concern, we all need to adjust when are
faced with predictable obstacles. Beginning Monday, we will return to our policy of assigning
detentions for unnecessary tardiness. Whenever there are legitimate extenuating circumstances for
tardiness, please call the attendance office (high school or middle school) with the reason for the
tardiness.
FRESHMAN/SOPHOMORE SEMIFORMAL INFORMATION
The semiformal dinner and dance will be held on Saturday March 28, 2015 at Coyle and Cassidy’s Holy
Rosary Annex from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Ticket sales for CC students will be sold through Friday,
March 13th. The cost is $23.00 per person. Tickets may be purchased in the Academic Support Room
(Mrs. Madden) during break or after school. The dance is open to CC students in grade 9 and 10 and
their pre-approved outside guests in grades 9 or 10 only (no middle school, no juniors, and no seniors
allowed.) Any student who wishes to bring an outside guest must see Mrs. Angeley to get the
appropriate form. The completed form and guest payment are due by 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March
11th. The administration will determine whether or not the guest is approved.
The dance is a semiformal; therefore, students should ―dress up‖. Outfits that are overly revealing
(extremely short, bare backs/stomachs) are not appropriate for this age/setting. Also, there is no need to
purchase/rent formal clothing. These students will have the opportunity for a more ―formal‖ event when
they become upperclassmen. We strongly encourage all students to attend this event. It is an important
part of the high school experience that helps to build community.
JUNIOR/SENIOR PROM INFORMATION
This year, parents of juniors, any transfer senior, and any senior who did not attend the 2014 prom are
required to attend a pre-prom meeting in order for their son/daughter to attend the prom. The meeting
will be held on Tuesday, May 5th at 7pm in the theater. We will continue to post this notice prior to
the required meeting. This meeting is mandatory and a student may attend the prom if and only if their
parent attends the meeting. Parents of seniors who attended the meeting last year will be required to
complete a form acknowledging their understanding of the content covered at the meeting. A senior
may attend the prom if and only if their parent completes the form. We strongly encourage parents to
bring their son or daughter to the meeting. We want a safe prom filled with lasting memories for all of
our students. Prom payments begin prior to the mandatory meeting. Juniors and seniors have been
given the form for parents to sign acknowledging that a parent must attend the mandatory meeting (or
complete the senior form). If tickets are purchased/payments made and a parent does not attend
(complete the senior form), the money will be refunded.
The CCHS prom will be held on Thur. May 21, 2015 in Newport, RI at the Newport Marriott from 6:00
p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The cost is $70.00 per person. There will be two payments: Mon., March 9th
($40.00 per person) and Wednesday, April 15th ($30.00 per person). Any payment received late will be
subject to a $10.00 late fee – THIS IS FOR EACH PAYMENT DATE LISTED ABOVE! Late fees
will be enforced even if the payment is one day late. No guest information is due at the time of the first
payment. Make the first payment even if you are not sure with whom you will be attending. We will
adjust the payments if you overpay. It is imperative that we have an accurate count to give the
restaurant and for ordering favors – so sign up early! NO REFUNDS MADE AFTER MAY 1, 2015.
Any student wishing to invite a student from outside of CC must turn in a guest approval form to Mrs.
Angeley by 8:00 a.m. on Wed., April 15th along with a $70.00 payment for the guest’s ticket. Outside
guest forms will be available on Mon., March 9th. All guests of CC students must be under 21 years of
age, and/or attending a high school. No middle school students will be approved/admitted. The
administration will determine whether or not the guest is approved. Any student who wishes to take an
underclassman (freshman, sophomore) must purchase a $70.00 guest ticket by Wed., April 15th. ALL
payments (if ck., payable to Coyle and Cassidy) are to be made to Mrs. de Matos, Senior Class
Moderator or Ms. Mawn, Junior Class Moderator. Payments may be made in full or made early to avoid
long lines at the deadline dates. The planning for this event is well underway and will be a night to
remember! Come and have a great time!
Butler Winter Games
On Saturday, March 14, 2015 starting at 9:00am CC will hold the Butler Winter Games. This event is
an off-shoot of the former Butler Basketball Tournament that took place each year at the former Taunton
Catholic Middle School. The games are open to all Coyle and Cassidy students. Students may
participant in as many events as they like. Entrants will be required to pay $2 per event $5 for 3 or more
events and participants will be in divisions by HS or MS. Must be paid at the time of registration. MS
students must be accompanied by an adult. HS students will be able to come and go while not
participating in an event.

As per the Student Handbook, no child should be carrying medication with them (except inhalers and
Epi Pens). All medications require a physician’s order on file in the Health Office. Please contact Mrs.
Wenger with any questions.
Postural screening of all students in grades 6, 7, 8 and 9 is underway, as mandated by the Department of
Public Health. If you do not wish your child to participate, please notify Mrs. Wenger in writing or by
email ASAP.

SUMMER ENRICHMENT
OPPORTUNITES: It is not too early to look
into summer enrichment programs.
Assumption College is offering junior year
students (future seniors) the chance to apply
for a competitive five-day, pre-college,
residential program from June 21-26.
Application deadline is March 16th. Cost for
this exciting program is $200. Students can
apply

Butler Winter Games come to CC
On Saturday, March 14, 2015 starting at 9:00am CC will hold the Butler Winter Games. This event is
an off-shoot of the former Butler Basketball Tournament that took place each year at the former Taunton

Middle School Campus Ministry Lenten Project
MS Campus Ministry is collecting new bathroom and toiletry items (e.g., soap, Kleenex, toothbrushes,
diapers, mouthwash, toothpaste, etc.) as well as new white sox for all ages, men, women and children.
We suggest shopping from the ―travel size‖ bins at area stores (those sizes are ideal for creating a Care
Package.) These Care Packages will support the Main Spring House and the David Louison House.
Middle School students and staff should donate all items by Friday, March 27 to the baskets found in
each homeroom. High School students and staff can also drop off items to the basket outside Dr.
Merritt’s office.
We are blessed to be the hands and feet of God by helping his children in need.

Girls Lacrosse Clinic
Mr. Bonefant is running a Girls Lacrosse Clinic on Sundays from 4:00-5:00pm at Forekicks (223
Freemont Street in Taunton). Participants should bring girls lacrosse stick, goggles and mouth guard.

Congratulations to our Middle School Students
After successfully completing two full quarters of middle school, our middle school students will no
longer carry their books bags from class to class. Many of them already choose not to carry a book bag.
They can, of course, use their book bags coming and leaving school each day. Students will, however,
be able to go to their lockers between classes as needed. This step has been taken so that students can
become more responsible and prepared to learn in each of the classes. Kudos to those students already
meeting with success!
CC Middle School joins other Diocesan Middle Schools
On Monday, March 23, 2015 our MS students will join other students throughout the Fall River Diocese
at the Middle School Youth Rally on the Beatitudes, a retreat-like event sponsored by the diocese. We
ask students on that day to wear appropriate Dress Down jeans, and no electronic devices will be
allowed. Also, students should bring a bagged lunch, plus one non-perishable food item as a donation.
