Job Description - Mossbourne Community Academy
Reception Teacher
Mossbourne Primary Academy
Mossbourne is delighted to open our Federation’s flagship primary academy in September 2015.
Mossbourne academies pride themselves on being of one of the best places to both teach and learn in the
country. The role of reception teacher will offer the right individual, the rare and exceptional opportunity to
be involved in the next chapter of development for the Federation. This is a key role and provides excellent
opportunity for development and advancement.
Mossbourne Primary Academy is a new school and requires a reception teacher to teach its first intake of 30
students at a temporary location in Hackney. In September 2016, the Academy will move to its permanent
home at it’s purpose built site in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, next to the Copper Box Arena.
Lead, Transform, Excel
Our vision and mission is underpinned by three core values, upheld by all students, parents, staff and
governors. Through upholding these core values, we will be the first academy federation whose schools are
without exception, exceptional.
Excellence: doing everything as well as we can; always
No Excuses: believing that anything is possible; we never give up
Unity: working together towards our goals; with integrity
Work in the
Mossbourne Federation
Changing Young Lives for the Better
Do you want to make difference?
The Federation’s flagship school, Mossbourne Community Academy, has changed the face of education in
Hackney. It has continued to raise the bar for other schools, both locally and further afield, with the belief
that all pupils, regardless of background or ability, deserve the chance to fulfil their full potential. The
Academy’s pupils have consistently achieved outstanding results at all key stages and outside the
classroom, student achievements in Music, Art and Sport are testament to the success of our philosophy.
The Mossbourne Federation has now extended this philosophy to more children in Hackney, across primary
and secondary phases.
We are therefore looking for the staff with the potential, passion and drive to be outstanding – so that all
our pupils get the education they deserve.
An Exceptional Place to Work
Do want to join a dynamic team?
Mossbourne schools are remarkably supportive workplaces where everybody learns. You will be
surrounded by professional, caring people who live by our three tenets: excellence, unity, and no excuses.
Our students and staff live by these principles, which ensure that we do something very special here,
everyday – all of which has brought us national and international recognition
An Environment for Teaching
Are you frustrated by poor behaviour?
Yes, Mossbourne schools are strict. Yes, they are formal. Yet this is the structure – formality, rigor and our
insistence on doing the simple things well – that liberates teachers to practice their art, and which allows
pupils to learn in a calm environment. Our expectations for student behaviour are very high. This focus
means that classrooms are calm places where teachers can expect to spend their time doing what they do
best: teaching. Our teachers do not have to waste time dealing with low level disruption. They are free to
develop those extraordinary skills of spontaneity and creativity that make our lessons special, and our
results remarkable.
As a Mossbourne teacher, you will not be on your own. All staff deal with behaviour, from challenging the
chatter on the stairways to following up on a missed detention; we take the small things seriously so that
the big things don’t happen. This makes Mossbourne schools places where distractions are left outside the
school gates, and where staff will always receive the support they need.

Outstanding Development
Do you want to be an exceptional teacher?
Teaching is a wonderful profession: rewarding, challenging and important. It is also difficult, especially when
you want to excel. In Mossbourne schools, expectations for staff are just as high as for our pupils, but the
rewards are high too. There are superb opportunities for promotion and development. We have many
outstanding teachers, as well as highly experienced and remarkable middle and senior leaders, who will all be
on hand to encourage and advise you. NQTs have a dedicated weekly professional development training
programme that rapidly moves them from ‘beginner teachers’ to ‘outstanding practitioners’. All new
teachers are supported to become ‘Outstanding’ and our in‐house training and development programmes
are second to none. We even run an Outstanding Teacher programme that sees the best teachers in the
school voluntarily get together to share practical ideas and improve their practice on a weekly basis.
Innovative development tools, such as our state‐of‐the‐art observation cameras, allow staff to observe and
improve their own practice. ‘Teaching Leaders’ develops many of our middle leaders and, each year, aspiring
middle leaders are selected to take part in this initiative. We also recognize the importance of personal
development and will sponsor up to half the cost of postgraduate qualifications in exchange for your
commitment. Our Teaching and Learning team mentor and coach teachers to achieve their goals. We also
fund staff classes in Spanish, singing, yoga and boxing, to name just a few.
At Mossbourne, your hard work will bring you excellent results and well-deserved job satisfaction
An ethos for the future
Grow alongside us
Mossbourne Victoria Park Academy opened in September 2014, and with Mossbourne Primary Academy
opening in September 2015, it is exciting times ahead for the development of the Academy group. As such
we have several opportunities for promotion and development in various roles, all united by the values
that drive us: excellence, unity and no excuses.
These values are more than just words. The quest for excellence means constant improvement, even once
we have broken records. Unity means that we support each other in this quest, and lighten each other’s load.
No excuses means that expectations remain high, allowing every one of us to achieve our full potential. We
enjoy applying this ethos to the world of education, and instilling it in teachers and students alike.
The profession has changed and continues to change. Mossbourne has been raising standards for ten years,
and has done so by recognizing that our most valuable resource is our staff.
