All teens will have a wonderful opportunity to connect with
others in a positive and meaningful way. Many youth continue
to come year after year because it is such a worthwhile
experience. Leadership skills are learned and improved and
friendships renewed. This is a safe place for ALL teens to have
good clean fun!

Join other teens from across New Hampshire and neighboring states at the University of New Hampshire for the 37th
Annual Teen Conference. The conference is open to all teens completing the 8th grade (or age 14 by 6/28/15) up through
12th grade. Each Day is packed with fun educational activities and social time. Stay at the UNH dorms and bring a
sleeping bag or bedding, casual clothes, dress clothes for the banquet and money for snacks.
Cost: $250 for NH 4-H Members and NH Residents ($270 for out-of-state registrants). Registration fee covers the entire 4
days. Room, Meals, Activities and T-Shirt are included (some workshops carry an additional fee).

Agricultural Entrepreneurs
How to Get Accepted at the College of Your Choice
Explore some local farms in the seacoast area and learn
how farmers are using entrepreneurial techniques to be
successful. You will visit the UNH Organic Dairy Farm
with its cutting-edge research into integrated agroecosystem which includes all biological, physical and
human related components. Research priorities are
relevant to both organic and conventional farm operations.
Next you will visit Velvet Pastures Elk Farm to learn about
raising a non-traditional farm animal. If you dream of
owning your own farm one day, this workshop is for you.

Car Care 101

Today’s cars are very complicated, but there are still some
simple things you can do to be sure your car stays running
well for a long time. Learn how to check and fill the
important fluids in your car. Save $$ on basic maintenance
like the air filter and windshield wipers. Learn how to
change a tire and what you need to do to stay safe while
working on your car.
It’s not too early to be thinking about college! During this
fun and interactive session, you will learn about the process
of selecting a college, get tips on completing your college
application, and participate in team activities. Find out from
those “in-the-know” what it takes to get noticed.
Representatives from UNH Durham, UNH Manchester, and
the UNH Thompson School of Applied Science will be on
hand to help you get the big picture.
Ink it Up!
Have you ever wanted to write a book, but don’t know how to
start? How do you get those words on the page? Where do the
ideas come from? This workshop will help you generate story
ideas, learn about writing styles and how to work with others
in the writing process. Put your imagination to good use in
this practical and stimulating workshop. If you are passionate
about creative writing, this is a workshop you can’t miss!
Italy in a Day
CSI: Durham

Graduate Students
You have just stumbled upon a crime scene and need to
determine the cause of death. Sketch the crime scene
firsthand using techniques real investigators use. Analyze
blood splatter using comparative techniques to determine
the origin. An unknown powder is found at the scene and
use spectroscopic techniques to determine its identity.
With these materials combined, determine the crime and
save the day!
Ever wanted to experience Italy? What would you need to
know to spend time there? This workshop will give you some
basic phrases helpful when you are traveling so you can get
around, order food and shop. You will also learn some
common greetings. Finish the day at a mock Italian restaurant
in Florence on the river, where you will practice ordering
food and making simple conversation. You will bring home a
booklet full of the phrases you have learned so you won’t
forget your day in Italy.
Dumplings of the World
Presented by Julienne Guyette, CCC with UNH Thompson School
Throughout the world, dumplings show up as delicious
representative tokens of cultures. Prepare and taste an
assortment of worldly parcels from Asia, Europe and
America. Don’t dis’ the dumpling, it is a favorite of many
cultures.
Exploring the Cows Rumen
Presented by Nancy Whitehouse, Research Scientist, UNH
Agricultural Experiment Station, Dairy Nutrition Research Center
If you have an interest in cows you won’t want to miss this
workshop. Start with a tour of the UNH Fairchild Dairy Teaching
and Research Center. Then each participant will get to place their
gloved arm inside one of our rumen cannulated cows. A sample of
her rumen contents will be removed by each person and the rumen
samples will be compared to what the cow was fed. What did she
eat? Some of the rumen fluid will be placed on a microscope slide
to be examined. What is living inside her rumen and why?

diversity of North American Indian Cultures and their reverence
for nature. You will learn about their weaving, pottery, clothing,
music and traditions.. Come experience the rich history of this
fascinating culture.
Everyone who loves dogs knows they need our care as well
as our love. This class will enhance your knowledge of skin
and hair coat care for dogs. You will learn about normal
and some common abnormal fundamentals of skin, nails,
and hair as well as the topical therapy and management.
Students will be assessing dogs with their new knowledge
and grooming them according to how their skin and hair
presents.
The Power of Understanding People
Presented by Deborah Cheever, UNHCE Merrimack County
In this upbeat comprehensive workshop you will use the
personality assessment from the book The Power of
Understanding People to discover which traits are most
prominent in you to unlock your true potential. Join in
with others as you discover and learn to better understand
your personality strengths and how your strengths
influence group dynamics in this fun interactive
presentation. Then learn what movie character you are
most like! Participants will also be able to use their
personal strengths information in thinking about future
careers.
Robotics – Operation SeaPerch
Presented by Claes Thelemarck, UNHCE Carroll County
Spend your morning modifying a SeaPearch underwater
Robot to do a specific mission! Then visit the UNH Chase
Ocean Engineering Lab where you will get to try out the
SeaPerch Robot you have modified to perform a task that
you have programmed it to do.
Then bring this cool project idea
back to your county and start the
SeaPerch project with your
club!
Self Defense
Presented by Cindy Naiditch, 4th Degree Black Belt
Use your adrenaline to help you when you need it most.
Any person regardless of age or fitness level can learn.
Participants will learn how to escape from various grabs
(wrists, hair, bear hugs, etc). Also, learn what to do if you
end up on the ground. Learn to be aware of dangerous
situations, make good choices, and use effective reasoning
under stress. Dress comfortably!
Ukrainian Culture - Past and Present
Presented by Christina Vogel, Rockingham County 4-H Volunteer
Come explore the rich history of the Ukraine. Learn about
their unique alphabet, music, art and food. You will have
an opportunity to sample the food,
design a Pysanky egg, learn some
Ukrainian phrases so you can
impress your friends with your
international knowledge.
Wilderness Survival
Presented by Doug Vogel, Rockingham County 4-H Volunteer
If you were stranded in the wilderness would you survive?
This workshop will teach you basic survival skills
including how to build a fire, how to construct a shelter
from the resources around you, and various other
wilderness survival tips and tricks.
Wheelchair Sports & Games
Presented by Chandler Bullard, Northeast Passage
Have you ever wondered how challenging life is for people
with physical disabilities? Similarity Awareness allows
students of all ages to see that disabilities are an important
part of our society and should be embraced and
understood. In this workshop you will use sport
wheelchairs and accessories to play a variety of indoor
wheelchair sports/ games. This experience teaches nondisabled students that although using a wheelchair while
playing a sport takes skill and practice, it’s also
challenging, athletic, and fun.
X Marks the Spot
Presented by Rick Alleva, Rockingham County 4-H Staff
Aye matey, have ya’ ever read a treasure map and tried to
follow it to the pirates’ loot? In this workshop you will be
hiding your treasure and creating a map. Then you will
swap maps with the other treasure hunters to go find their
loot. Peg legs and eye patches not provided.

Learn some fun games and creative activities that will help
you improve your improvisational skills as
we explore the techniques and enjoy the
comedy that improv has to offer.

As a singer your body is your instrument, so it makes
sense that how you stand, the way you hold your
head, and even the tension in your shoulders can
affect the sound of your voice. In this workshop we will
explore some vocal techniques and discover the concepts of
body mapping. We’ll finish the session with a song.
Kayaking/Paddle boarding
Presented by Carey Rhodes, UNH Outdoor Adventure Club
Spend a relaxing afternoon at UNH’s Mendums Pond learning the basic
skills of kayaking and paddle boarding and exploring some of the waters
of the pond. Don’t forget your bathing suit!

Dance Lessons
Visit the Tack Shack at Brookvale Pines Farm and learn how
to use leatherworking equipment to make a woven leather dog
leash or belt. This workshop does not have a fee for the first
item; however if you wish to make a second item, it may be
purchased during the workshop for an additional fee.
If you want to get out on the dance floor and move, then this is
the workshop for you. Learn a variety of country line dances
to artists like: Sugarland; Brooks & Dunn; Taylor Swift and
Little Big Town.
Not Just Horsin’ Around!
Decadent Delights
Presented by Judy Cogger & Lucy Rhodes, Rockingham Cty Volunteers
Participants will learn to make a variety of chocolate candies
including molded chocolates, scrumptious truffles and yummy
peanut butter cups. You will understand the types of chocolate
used for various projects, how to properly melt chocolate, how
to make filling, tools needed, and each participant will go
home with candy!
Electric Motors in Motion
Presented by Joe Drake, UNHCE Rockingham County Staff
Work as a team to build a motorized battery operated car in
this fun, interactive session. You will learn about circuits and
use the engineering design process to create a working electric
car.
Field Hockey
Presented by Caroline Keen, Pembroke Academy
Have you ever wanted to try field hockey? In this workshop you
will do some fun drills like knock out or steal the bacon and
then play a game.
Fly Fishing
Presented by Rick Hutchins, Three Rivers Stocking Association
Put on your rubber pants* and get ready to go fly fishing! This
instructional workshop will teach you all the basics you need to
know about fly fishing equipment and casting technique. After
you learn the basics, you will have a chance to test your skills

This hands-on interactive workshop will present a variety of
interesting opportunities for the more advanced 4-H horse youth
on the topic of Equine Science and Management. Youth
interested should have an equine background and be prepared for
a more advanced, focused workshop on horses. Participants will
learn about anatomy, nutrition, equipment and diseases through
hippology stations, discussion, and team problems.

Come learn how to use your camera, whether it is a 35mm
or a smart phone. Spend some time taking
photos and learning some techniques for
editing them. Bring your camera and get
ready to be creative!
Soccer

Get warmed up and ready to run! In this active workshop,
you’ll learn some basic drills like dribbling and passing, then
pick teams and play a scrimmage game.
Tennis
Presented by Sarah Proctor, Rockingham County 4-H Volunteer
Whether you are a tennis pro or a beginner, you will enjoy this
workshop. Beginners will learn basic strokes, scoring and
spend time rallying the ball. More advanced players will get a
chance to hone their skills by taking part in a round-robin
tennis tournament. A great way to get out and enjoy the sun!

Theatrical Makeup
USS Albacore Submarine Tour
Presented by Maggie Molloy, Teen Conference Alum
Tour the experimental submarine U.S.S. Albacore. You will take
a walk through what was once the world’s fastest submarine and
feel what it was like to live underwater for weeks at a time. Built
right here in Portsmouth NH this sub was used to develop many
of the systems that have helped our Navy to be the best in the
world.
Do you want to learn how to do your
makeup like a movie star? Learn various
types of theatrical makeup for different
types of plays, character tropes, and stage
sizes. You will also Learn some special
FX makeup and get a chance to try on a
look of your choice!
Zumba

Ultimate Frisbee
Presented by Peter Attisano, Teen Council Alum and Strafford
County Volunteer
What is it? Why, it’s Ultimate Frisbee of course! Come and
learn the rules of this high-energy game and spend some time
trying out your moves. This is a grueling game, not
recommended for couch potatoes!
An exhilarating session of easy to follow,
calorie burning cardio dance moves set to hypnotic
Latin rhythms such as salsa, cumbia, merengue,
and flamenco. No dance experience or coordination required.

Your Passport to NH’s Adventures!
Attitash Resort Alpine Slide*
Spend the day enjoying the beautiful White Mountains of New
Hampshire. Attitash mountain activities include the Mountain
Coaster, slacklines, airbag jump, waterslide, EuroBungy
Trampoline, climbing wall, and Alpine Slide. Come to this
workshop ready to test your physical and mental abilities.
*This workshop has an additional fee of $15 per person.
Minimum 25 people.
River Paddling Sports
Spend the day on the water paddling up a lazy
river with your friends. You will have a chance to
try canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddle
boarding. Then relax with your friends on the
beach while you enjoy a picnic lunch. Minimum
20 people.
Loon Mountain Aerial Forest Adventure*
Challenge yourself high in the trees as you move from
platform to platform via bridges, zip lines, and other
challenges. And you thought Loon Mountain only offered
skiing! This adrenaline filled workshop will excite your
senses. *This workshop has an additional fee of $25 per person.
Minimum 25 people.
Shooting Sports
Presented by Larry Barker, UNHCE Coos County
and the Staff of Major Waldron Sportsmen’s
Association, Barrington, NH
Ready, Aim, Fire! Travel to a local shooting range for a day of
sampling the terrific 4-H shooting sports curriculum activities.
Hands-on? You bet! You’ll have a chance to try shotgun, archery,
pistol, rifle, and muzzle loader. There will be something for
everyone from the beginner to the expert. Join us for a day of fun
and learn something along the way.
Flume Gorge/Cannon Mountain Aerial Tram
Explore some beautiful New Hampshire scenery in this
adventurous workshop. Follow the Flume Gorge through a
natural wonder including waterfalls, rock structures, and
more! Walk through one of the oldest covered bridges in New
Hampshire and observe all aspects of nature on spectacular
Mount Liberty and Mount Flume. Finish the day with a ride
on the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tram Way and take a walk
to fire tower where you can see the mountain tops of four
states and Canada! Minimum 15 people.

Whale Watching
Spend the day with Granite State Whale Watch.
Experience a day watching finbacks, blue whales and
other migrating whales come back to the waters of
NH for the summer. Enjoy relaxing on the tour,
soaking up the sun and getting a chance to be on the
water for the day. Be sure to dress for all kinds of
weather - sweatshirt, jacket and pants are a good idea
for cool winds off the ocean this time of year. Don’t
forget your sunscreen! Minimum 15 people

As a participant in a New Hampshire 4-H event, you have the responsibility of representing the New Hampshire 4-H program to the
public. You are expected to conduct yourself in a manner that will bring honor to you as well as to 4-H. To do that, you will need to:
