About the Workshops
Resolving Complex Ethical Dilemmas in Psychological
Practice
About the Speaker
In the practice of psychology, we frequently encounter complex
dilemmas that have clinical, ethical, and legal elements. The focus
of this workshop will be on clinical practice vignettes that will
allow participants to actively discuss, analyze and resolve these
types of situations. A model of ethical decision making will be
presented that incorporates emotional, interpersonal and
contextual factors.
ERICA H. WISE, Ph.D. is Clinical Professor and Director of the
Psychology Training Clinic in the clinical psychology doctoral
program at UNC Chapel Hill. She is a former member and chair of
the APA Ethics Committee and the North Carolina Psychology
Board. She is a member of the APA Board Educational Affairs
(BEA), past-president of NCPA and co-chair of the NCPA Ethics
Committee. She is the recipient of the 2013 Fifth Annual APA
Ethics Committee Award for Outstanding Contributions to Ethics
Education, and she was honored to receive an APA Presidential
Citation in 2014 from Nadine Kaslow in recognition of her
contributions to education, training, practice, ethics, and social
justice advocacy. Her professional interests include professional
education and training and the integration of ethics, multicultural
competence, and self-care into academic and professional practice
settings.
Multicultural Competence and Ethics in Psychological
Practice
Multicultural competence in psychological practice is essential to
the provision of high quality services to an increasingly diverse
public. Current training models emphasize the infusion and
integration of multicultural and ethical competencies throughout
training. In this workshop we will review strategies for
incorporating these competencies into clinical practice through the
discussion of challenging vignettes.
