The 2015 API-Delta Chapter
MERITORIOUS SERVICE AWARDS
The Delta Chapter of the American Petroleum Institute is
pleased to announce that Mr. James R. Moffett, chairman
of the Board of Directors at Freeport-McMoRan Inc., and
Ms. Peggy Bourgeois, Executive Assistant to the President
of Our Lady of Holy Cross College, have been selected for
this year’s prestigious Meritorious Service Award.
JAMES R. MOFFETT
James R. Moffett is
Chairman of the Board of Directors
of Freeport-McMoRan Inc. (NYSE:
FCX). FCX is a premier U.S.-based
natural resource company with an
industry-leading global portfolio of
mineral assets, significant oil and gas
resources and a growing production
profile. Under Mr. Moffett’s leadership,
in 1988 FCX discovered the Grasberg
ore complex in Papua, Indonesia,
which contains one of the world’s largest reserves of copper and
gold. In 2007, FCX acquired the Phelps Dodge Corporation in
a $26 billion transaction that created the world’s largest publicly
traded copper company. In 2013, FCX completed the $19 billion
acquisition of Plains Exploration & Production Company (PXP)
and McMoRan Exploration Co. (MMR), adding high-quality oil
and gas assets to FCX’s global mining business.
With 35,000 employees, FCX operates large, long-lived,
geographically diverse assets including the Grasberg minerals
district in Indonesia, one of the world’s largest copper and
gold deposits; significant mining operations in the Americas,
including the large-scale Morenci minerals district in North
America and the Cerro Verde and El Abra operations in South
America; the Tenke Fungurume minerals district in Democratic
Republic of Congo; and significant oil and natural gas assets
in North America, including reserves in the Deepwater Gulf of
Mexico, onshore and offshore California and in the Haynesville
shale play, and an industry-leading position in the emerging
Inboard-Lower Tertiary gas trend on the Shelf of the Gulf of
Mexico and onshore in South Louisiana.
Born in 1938 in Houma, Louisiana, and raised in Houston,
Texas, Mr. Moffett has a B.S. degree in Geology from The
University of Texas (1961) and a M.S. degree in Geology from
Tulane University (1963).
From 1964 to 1969, Mr. Moffett was a consulting geologist. In
1969, he and two associates founded McMoRan Oil & Gas Co.,
which developed into one of America’s leading independent
oil and gas firms. In 1981, Mr. Moffett put together the merger
of McMoRan Oil & Gas and Freeport Minerals Company.
The merger resulted in the establishment of a new company,
Freeport-McMoRan Inc., which became one of the world’s
leading natural resource companies. He served as Chairman
and CEO from 1984-1997, when Freeport-McMoRan Inc.
merged with IMC Global Inc. In the 1990’s, Freeport-McMoRan
Inc. spun off FCX and MMR, and following the merger with IMC they
continued as separate companies until FCX’s 2013 acquisition of MMR.
Mr. Moffett serves on numerous boards and has been a noted
civic leader. As a result, he has received many awards and
honors from a wide variety of organizations, including: Horatio

Chairman's Message
It is a pleasure to serve as your API-Delta Section Chairman in 2015. This year appears
to be challenging year for the oil industry; however, I look forward to helping the
API-Delta Chapter meet its aggressive goals and objectives for 2015. These goals
and objectives are to encourage education within our community, recognize the positive aspects of our
industry and enhance our community.
I became involved in the API-Delta Chapter several years ago to give back to our community in the areas
of education for our kids and young adults. Also I hoped to enhance the reputation of the oil industry in
our community by showing the general public the many positive aspects and contributions demonstrated
by each of you who work hard every day to deliver safe and productive results.
For years the Delta Chapter supported numerous educational programs that promote our industry. In 2014,
we awarded $20,000 to college students. The Delta Chapter also awarded over $10,000 to community
Teacher Awards and recognition. Additional financial support is provided for educational programs such
as STEM, BLAST, NACE Camp and Science Fair Awards. These programs expose young students to math
and science in a fun environment.
From your support, API donated over $20,000 the development of the new Louisiana Children's Museum
(LCM), Northshore Children’s Museum and BCCM Children’s Museum. We hope to continue this support
as these museums can have a positive influence on the thousands of children who attend. We sponsor
special programs such as Bayou Regional Robotics Competition and "FETCH Oil and Energy Saturday."
These activities bring the positive and real results that come out of learning and working hard to achieve
a goal.
All of this is made possible by your participation and support. We will continue our Father/Son Sporting Clays
Event and Golf Tournaments as fundraisers this year. We will also have our regular meetings throughout
the year such as the Meritorious Service award presentations on March 24th, Technical Luncheon in
August, and our Joint Society Luncheon in November.
API-Delta Chapter is financially sound and hopes to continue with many opportunities to have a positive
impact on our community. If you have any recommendations on how to support our community through
the API-Delta, please give me a call.
Looking forward to seeing you in 2015!
