Hollrah Rarely do I wait with anticipation to hear what Barack Obama has to say on any subject. After more than six years of his political presence we’ve come to expect that we can place little faith in anything he might say on any subject because he has a totally different view of what otherwise reasonable people might believe. However, as I watched the Obamas climb the steps of Air Force One on Saturday morning, March 7, on their way to Selma, Alabama to participate in the 50th anniversary of the historic march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, now widely referred to as “Bloody Sunday,” I couldn’t help but think back to March 4, 2007, when Obama spoke from the pulpit of the Brown Chapel A.M.E. church in Selma, the starting point for the “Bloody Sunday” march. In that speech, Obama attempted to fashion an imaginary link between himself and the events of March 7, 1965. He said: “...something happened back here in Selma, Alabama… Something happened when a bunch of women decided they were going to walk instead of ride the bus after a long day of doing somebody else’s laundry, looking after somebody else’s children. When (black) men who had PhDs decided ‘that’s enough’ and ‘we’re going to stand up for our dignity,’ that sent a shout across oceans so that my grandfather began to imagine something different for his son. His son, who grew up herding goats in a small village in Africa, could suddenly set his sights a little higher and believe that maybe a black man in this world had a chance… “This young man named Barack Obama… came over to this country. He met this woman whose great great-great-greatgrandfather had owned slaves; but she had a good idea there was some craziness going on because they looked at each other and they decided that we know that, (in) the world as it has been, it might not be possible for us to get together and have a child. There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Alabama, because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born. So don’t tell me I don’t have a claim on Selma, Alabama. Don’t tell me I’m not coming home to Selma, Alabama.” It sounded good; it was great oratory. But what was the truth of the matter? The problem with Obama’s version of history was that he was born on August 4, 1961, while the first of three marches across the Pettus Bridge in Selma didn’t occur until March 7, 1965, three years and seven months after he was born. On March 7, 1965, an estimated 550-600 civil rights march- See Hollrah, pg. 11 How much does the first family cost taxpayers for vacations? While it’s difficult to pin down precise figures, the Washington Examiner reports they have “spent tens of millions in tax dollars to vacation, and they still have two more years to go.” Judicial Watch has compiled a list of vacations, fundraisers and other presidential trips and their accompanying expenses. A rough tally of this incomplete list comes to a minimum of $33,441,728.23. It is routine for the government to cover a president’s travel expenses, which can include security, staff housing and transportation, communication, prepositioning of aircraft and other related expenditures. Some, however, are questioning the sheer cost of travel, and whether such costly vacations are necessary during a weak economy. Prior to the presidential trip to sub-Saharan Africa during 2013, the Washington Post reported, “Hundreds of U.S. Secret Service agents will be dispatched to secure facilities in Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania. A Navy aircraft carrier or amphibious ship, with a fully staffed medical trauma center, will be stationed offshore in case of an emergency. In a Fox News interview with Lou Dobbs, NRA President Wayne LaPierre blasted President Obama as “acting like a dictator” in his push to ban the ammunition for America’s most popular sporting rifle, the AR-15. While the issue has been burning up conservative websites and blogs, it’s received almost no coverage from establishment media giants. “Why are we not hearing more of an outcry on this?” Dobbs asked. “Probably because the media doesn’t want the American public to know what this president is trying to impose on them. This is a president who, he’s grasping for straws,” LaPierre said. “He hates the Second Amendment, he hates the fact that Americans have a constitutional right to own firearms.” LaPierre pointed out that Obama’s plans to ban the AR- 15 itself failed in Congress. That was back in 2013, when the weapon Democrats tried to characterize as a “military-style assault rifle” proved more popular than they imagined among sporting enthusiasts and hunters. The AR-15 is branded by Colt and modeled as a civilian sporting rifle on a semi-automatic platform, whereas the military version, the M16, is fully automatic. Most sportsman use the AR-15 for competitive or recreational target shooting. It has no history of being used as a weapon of choice by street criminals, law enforcement officers told WND. Yet, Obama and a small core of Democrats, including Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., have targeted the gun relentlessly with the help of advocacy groups funded by Michal Bloomberg, Bill Gates and other corporate elites. “He can’t win at the ballot box, he can’t win at the Congress, and now he’s trying to act like a dictator and planning on forcing this ammo ban on the American public by executive regulation,” LaPierre said. Not questions of philosophy or ideology. Not questions of patriotism or religion. Questions that have factual, constitutional answers. Questions about the limits of executive authority. Questions about the president’s right to change or ignore laws he does not care for. The answers can be found, but it seems increasingly obvious that a large percentage of Americans are unwilling to look for them. Either that…or they simply don’t care. Democracy dies when we no longer pay attention to abuse of power. When we let that power grow one executive action at a time, more concerned with the result of a thing than the legal basis. Why, it’s so sensible to provide amnesty to illegal immigrant children. Do we really want to send these poor children back to their hellhole countries of origin? How heartless. How cruel. And so because liberals like the idea of open borders and a kinder, gentler America, they are willing to turn a blind eye to what it plainly an abuse of power. To be clear, Obama’s dreams of dictatorship are chilling. But they do not present any threat to the country as long as everyone recognizes what’s going on. There have been plenty of examples in the past of presidents trying to legislate from the White House. Some were even temporarily successful before the courts rebuked their challenges to the Constitution. The problem today – what’s really chilling – is that we’ve allowed the concept of executive overreach to become just another Republicans vs. Democrats inside-baseball issue. Beyond Politics This should have very little to do with party politics. It goes without saying that Washington is more polarized than ever before, and that the polarization is borne out of opposite and contrary ideologies. And that’s fine. But there comes a point when cooler heads must prevail. There comes a time when lawmakers and the American people – even those who call themselves Democrats and believe that there should be no such concept as “illegal” immigration – must wake up to what’s happening. This is more than an individual issue. Much more. This is about what we are willing to let our country become. In our Constitution, it says that “all legislative powers See Monachy, pg. Burwell case before the U.S. Supreme Court could present both challenges and opportunities for our states. The Court will decide later this year whether the Internal Revenue Service had the statutory authority to write a rule allowing health insurance subsidies to flow through federally-facilitated exchanges. As we wrote in our January 29, 2015, letter to House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, we are convinced that states could do a much better job of managing programs if we had greater flexibility and control of funds and regulatory authority. Republican governors Gov. Mary Fallin have written before and continue to maintain that the “ACA remains seriously flawed both conceptually and technically. It favors dependency over personal responsibility and will ultimately destroy the private insurance market.” Regardless of the outcome of King v. Burwell, governors need more flexibility to respond to the different needs of their constituents. “One-size-fits-all” approaches to governance are never the best way to deliver positive results. As policy solutions are created by Congress in the aftermath of the Supreme Court ruling on King v. Burwell, we encourage options that would allow the states the opportunity to innovate and offer health insurance that better meets the needs of our citizens. Congressman Jim Bridenstine Votes Against Amtrak Subsidies Washington, DC, March 4, 2015 Today I voted against HR 749, the passenger rail bill which authorizes funding primarily for Amtrak. 100 other republicans joined me in attempting to stop First District taxpayers from subsidizing government passenger rail transport. Congress should be phasing out federal funding for Amtrak. Instead, this bill increases authorization levels between 2016-2019 and makes it easier for Amtrak to access taxpayer-backed debt. Another Year of Writing It is hard to realize that this tome is the 364th in the series that began in March of 2008, yes it completes a full seven years of each week thinking, or trying to think, of something that would be interesting, informational, and perhaps amusing. A whole lot of water has ‘gone over the dam and under the bridge’ in the meantime. In looking at the very first time out, it was about a trip made, by request from the Missouri House ‘Majority Whip’ (No. 2) to testify at a committee hearing on a bill she had introduced, for my and others benefit, to require birth records of adoptees to be opened. How that came about is another story, but was a complete surprise to me. The writing all began with a telephone call from Mrs. Donna Vickers, owner/publisher of the ‘Banner Newspaper’ in Adair, OK remarking that I had written numerous ‘letters to the editor’ and had I ever thought of writing a weekly column. Completely taken by surprise, my reply was that the thought had never crossed my mind as I did not consider myself to be an author or writer, but was willing to ‘try anything once and if it did not please me not continue’. The story was told to Charley Biggs, owner/publisher/editor of the ‘Tulsa Beacon’ who agreed to also try it. Thank you both, it has been a whole lot of fun, even if frustrating when “writer’s block” raises its ugly head. A few other papers have been added to the list, but whether they actually print them is not known by me, other than the ‘Oklahoma Constitution’, a quarterly paper in OKC that prints one of them as a ‘letter to the editor’. Now this week reference is made to a story attributed to the ‘Larry O’Dell of the Associated Press’ with the headline that read “Virginia considers taking more offenders’ DNA”. The story begins with a murder case that was old with only DNA from the victim. At the time there was not the national file that is in existence today, but a match was found several years later when the file was finally in place with the culprit in another state where he had been captured on a couple of sexual assault cases at two separate Virginia universities. The culprit had also been convicted of trespassing earlier, but that would have been a misdemeanor and thus DNA sample was not taken. The story goes on at length to list the supporters of expanding the list of required sample taking. It also lists ‘concerns’ of opponents and their concerns of possible misuse of the records, such as going after everyone with a particular “marker” that might turn up. As expected, the ACLU is at the forefront in opposing anything that might make crime solving faster and easier citing the possible misuse of such records ‘if they would fall into the wrong hands’. Frankly, it is my opinion, and desire, that the DNA file should be open for everyone and anyone to submit a sample for several reasons, all considered by me to be most valid. It has been my desire to be entered into the database for the simple reason of body identification in the event of some catastrophe. This would make it much easier for the forensic team to obtain identification in such cases. Also, it would make it possible to identify ancestry, such as American Indian tribes. For example, my daughter, Mary, was attempting to find my ancestry, because of my adoption status and the severe secrecy of records in the State of Missouri, and had me provide a sample for one of the services. No word has been received by me of whether the results were filed in the national database, but it would not bother me. Another use for it would be in the maternity wards of hospitals. Having such records would certainly settle any cases of ‘switched babies’, that have occasionally surfaced in the news. Or even in cases where a baby was kidnaped from the nursery. It would be easy to take samples for DNA on admission of the mother and when the baby was born. This is especially true since it is not necessary to take blood samples for DNA recording, but only a saliva swab is adequate. Frankly, it seems most surprising that this has not been done sooner. But the granddaughter of my late wife has been the head of the DNA laboratory for the OSBI and was involved in setting up the national database, but was prevented by their rules, perhaps law, from even considering a sample from me. Congressman Jim Bridenstine’s Statement on DHS Funding Washington, DC, March 3, 2015 Today, the House passed a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for the remainder of the fiscal year. The bill funds President Obama’s unconstitutional executive amnesty. I voted no. Back in January, I voted to fund every constitutional DHS function and program and to defund the executive amnesty. Mr. Netanyahu showed us what it takes to be a leader; where Israel has a leader, we Americans have a politician occupying our highest office. Several Democrat Representatives and Senators refused to attend the speech, and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was quoted after the speech as saying the speech was “insulting” claiming it undermined international peace and almost “drove her to tears.” For all of you that have forgotten, Miss Nancy was the Representative that stated after she voted for Obamacare, she voted for it so that she could see what was in it. The American people need to ask Nancy and Barrack if they will shed tears when one of our major cities is engulfed in a mushroom cloud? Wednesday, March 11, 2015 The BANNER From My Pointless View...by Ruth Bivens The Inspection Hubby and I are spending more and more time here at the Getsemani Children’s Home in Morelos, Coahuila, Mexico. Since we did not have full time students enroll in our Bible Institute in Altamira, our teaching jobs there sort of dried up. Our dear friends, the director and staff at the Seminary of the Cross in Reynosa want us to come back there and teach for a while this semester, but, Hubby is pretty content working here. So, I guess this is where we will be until we have to go South for a Pastor’s Conference or Convention in Altamira. Our son John and his wife Paulina established this ministry after having worked at another orphanage in the border city of Piedras Negras. Their initial plan was to work at that children’s home for a year and find out everything they needed to know about starting their own children’s home. But, after working there for a year they were so in love with the children that they just found it impossible to leave. So, they stayed there for six years before coming farther into the frontier zone and beginning this beautiful work in Morelos in 2006, and several of those children came with them. They contacted the mayor here in Morelos and discussed with him their hope to come to this area and start a children’s home. He was quiet enthusiastic and told them that, if they would start an old folk’s home together with the children’s home, he would get property donated for them. They agreed to try that, although it had never crossed their minds before. So the mayor arranged for a local business man who owed a large tax bill to donate five acres to them in return for having his tax debt erased. After it was up and running for three or four years the Department of Family decided they could not take care of elderly and children so the elderly folks who were not able to work had to leave. One man, Abihu, is still here. He is 70, but, they put him on salary and he works with the older boys tending the animals and keeping the grass and trees watered and trimmed. This property is out at the north edge of town, behind a huge plastic recycling depository. John says that the first time he walked out and saw the land he wondered what in the world he had gotten himself into. It was a five acre plot of land, covered with thorn bushes. He went to work and groups of supporters from many different areas came and helped him. Soon homes to house children were growing up out of the ground like mushrooms. Today the place is a beautiful property with four homes where 10-12 children could be cared for, an office building, computer building, large kitchen and dining room that will seat at least 60, a huge dorm with its own kitchen for groups that come to help, barns for animals and all kinds of fowl, and a work shop where any kind of work can be done. They are suffering from a shortage of house parents so are currently limited in the number of children they can receive. We ask people to pray for dedicated house parents to come, people who sincerely love children, and realize that this is not a job, but a ministry, healing broken and hurting hearts of abandoned and abused children. The home is under the umbrella of the “DIF” the Mexican government’s Department of Family, an organization much like our Department of Human Services. Everything that is done here has to meet their standards and rules. Even in the little duplex where Hubby and I live there is a sign on the wall pointing to the “Evacuation Route,” an “Exit” sign over the back door, and two fire extinguishers hanging on the front and rear walls of the living/dining/kitchen with large signs over them clearly identifying where they are. With all of the oversight that they have, one would expect that they would also be supporting the home financially when they place children. But, not a peso comes in from the government. This is a ministry, totally supported by donations from generous folks in the United States who have a burden for the children here. About ten days or two weeks ago Paulina was in Piedras Negras with a car load of girls and just suddenly felt like she should go by the DIF office. When she walked in the official in the office greeted her warmly and led her to his office. Then, he began to speak to her in a quiet voice. “This conversation never took place,” he said. Then he proceeded to tell her that the government inspectors would be in a meeting in Nava on Wednesday and then they were going out to inspect all of the children’s homes in the area. And, Getsemani Children’s Home was the first on the list. Nava is a small city about ten miles east of here. So, given that information, Paulina expected the inspection crew to be here Ruth Bivens soon after noon on last Wednesday. She came back ASAP and shifted everyone into inspection readiness mode. Hubby and I have heard them talk about these inspections before, but we have never been in on the getting ready for one before. I have never seen such frantic cleaning, scrubbing and fixing. Our next door neighbor here in the duplex even got her kitchen cabinets painted! And, Hubby did it. Paulina assured me that we didn’t have to worry about our side of the duplex, since no children live here with us. That was a huge relief, since I had been down for about a week with a really bad infection. But, when I walked over to their house I could not believe the upheaval taking place. Hubby had recently worked on both front screen doors here at the duplex. Last week he replaced the damaged front screen door at House #4, where the teen aged boys live. And such cleaning and scrubbing took place there that it does not look like the same house! Paulina even went through a stack of framed pictures we have picked up at thrift shops over the past year or so. She found appropriate pictures for several of the bedrooms that did not have any pictures hanging on the walls. Paulina confessed to me one evening that her blood pressure was high. She also told me that she had been suffering from a headache ever since this preparation project got underway. I told her the headache was probably due to the stress and that the stress was most likely what caused her high blood pressure. She agreed. So, Wednesday came, and everything was ship shape. We all were anxiously watching the front gate, waiting for a strange car. As the afternoon wore on, no one came down the lane. Come five o’clock no one had showed up. John and Paulina were sure that no one from that office would be out working past four o’clock. The inspectors did not come! Hubby and I wondered if they might come the next day, but no one else seemed worried about that. And, it was so. No inspectors came Thursday either. John told us that this was the fourth time that they had been warned about a coming inspection, got ready for it, and no one came. So, once again we were on the front row. Watching how the Mexican officials manipulate the ministry here, and do not keep their word. Paulina’s whole desire is that they would come, see what a sweet place this is for the children, and understand that it is the Love of God that makes it so. Her wish is to show them a Christian witness. Can you understand why I am so proud of this couple? Well, things are back to business as usual now. Nothing was ever “bad” before. There were just a few things that needed a little polishing. A friend from Ada who comes every three months and brings a donation of groceries and funds came Friday and brought another friend from Illinois who had never been here. They were impressed with the condition of things, everything squeaky clean. There will be another group coming down from Oklahoma on the 13th to do some construction, and they too will be impressed. Maybe the threat of an inspection is just a motivation to keep things in tip top shape. From where I stand, I would say it works. Has anybody inspected your house lately? I am afraid I would have to drape a bedspread over Hubby’s recliner and the area around it. It looks like a disaster area. But, I don’t dare touch a thing. He has plans for it all. And, what matters to me is that Hubby stays happy. Page 3 Elementary School Dumps Homework and Tells Kids to Play Instead By Heather Holland KIPS BAY — A public elementary school is abolishing traditional homework assignments and telling kids to play instead — outraging parents who say they may pull their kids out of the school. Teachers at P.S. 116 on East 33rd Street have stopped assigning take-home math worksheets and essays, and are instead encouraging students to read books and spend time with their family, according to a letter the school’s principal, Jane Hsu, sent to parents last month. “The topic of homework has received a lot of attention lately, and the negative effects of homework have been well established,” Hsu wrote in her letter, which was sent home with students. ► Here’s Why Homework Isn’t Necessary for Grammar School Kids... Sometimes “They include: children’s frustration and exhaustion, lack of time for other activities and family time and, sadly for many, loss of interest in learning.” Hsu explained that the school spent more than a year “analyzing studies focused on the effects of traditional homework” and decided that it was more important for the Pre-K through fifth grade students to do activities that “have been proven to have a positive impact on student academic performance and social/emotional development” such as reading at their own pace and playing. “In fact, you may be surprised to learn that there have been a variety of studies conducted on the effects of homework in the elementary grades and not one of them could provide any evidence that directly links traditional homework practices with current, or even future, academic success.” The letter recommends limiting the time kids spend on TV, computers and video games, and told parents with concerns to speak to their children’s teachers. “This is their time to learn now, when they have good memory,” said Stanley, a 33-year-old Murray Hill resident with a third-grade son at P.S. 116, who declined to give his last name A Department of Education out of concern for his son. spokesman said the city does not have an overarching homework “I give him extra work, though. policy, so principals and teach- I go to Barnes & Nobles and ers can use their discretion in give him my own homework.” assigning homework. Many take rights for granted unless they are taken away. Residents in nursing homes sometimes believe they lose rights upon entering a facility, or their rights may be arbitrarily taken from them. The only way any person can lose the rights that our laws provide is if they are taken through the judicial process or with the changing of a law. A few of these rights of the residents include the following: to have privacy when receiving care; to be treated with dignity and respect; to have call lights answered in a timely manner; to make and receive phone calls in privacy; to have a compatible roommate; to feel free to voice concerns or complaints without fear of retaliation; to visit guests in privacy; to receive mail unopened; respect of privacy by staff knocking before entering the room; to have a locked space for valuables; to participate in care plan conferences; to choose a food alternative; to be given 48 hours written notice on room or roommate changes; to choose a personal physician and/or pharmacy; to keep and use personal possessions; to be free from verbal, sexual, physical and mental abuse, corporal punishment or involuntary seclusion; to be free from the use of restraints; to be permitted to participate in activities of choice; to the have the opportunity to vote. and volunteers visit residents in long-term care facilities to insure their rights are being protected and to advocate for the residents. This document consists of 79 pages. ~Author’s note: This summary is an expanded section of a larger document entitled “Electromagnetic Health for Children”. The full document is designed in response to requests for information detailing current health concerns of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) with a focus on radiofrequency (RF) radiation. This is an expanded subsection covering EHS only. ~Background: We are currently witnessing the largest change to the Earth’s electromagnetic environment that has ever taken place in human history. This change has taken place in the very short period of a handful of decades and continues to escalate at an exponential rate (Appendix 1). Given that household electricity, which was the first anthropogenic (man-made) electromagnetic field (EMF), only became prolific after the turn of the century, artificial EMF has barely seen one generation from cradle to grave. The use of higher frequency microwave devices such as mobile telephony, Wi-fi and smart meters, have suddenly become commonplace despite almost no safety testing and decades of evidence of potentially lethal effects. This has sparked a political and scientific debate that is gathering momentum on a daily basis, raising concern about the continued use of such devices. One may assume when witnessing the vast implementation of, for example Wi-fi in the home, school, workplace or public domain, that experts have provided sufficient evidence of safety to overwhelm scientific concern. This is not the case. You can be sure Obama is rub- The World Health Organization (WHO) / International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) Clasbing his hands together, happy sified RF as a Group 2 B ‘Possible Human Carcinogen” (2011). The only safety guidelines currently used in the UK are those constructed in 1998 regarding ‘thermal (heating) effects’ of non-ionising radiation. These are not protective of health given the vastly documented non-thermal effect taking place orders of magnitude below these levels. They are obsolete. Other countries have responded to this information and have safety limits more biologically sensible, thousands of times lower than here in the UK (see Appendix 2). Mechanistic data is available to explain these effects and every bodily system is affected (as one would expect from a radiation induced illness). The very broad range of RF emitting devices on the market were never pre-market safety tested and many now contain fine print warnings from the manufacturers which warn that one must keep the devices a minimum distance from the body which in some cases is incompatible with use. The public are generally not aware of these warnings or the increased vulnerability of certain groups such as children, foetuses, elderly, pregnant women, infirm and those with EHS. The full paper gives an overview of facts that should be considered during the policy change that is clearly necessary, and this subsection concerns Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS) only. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS) A Summary 1. Definition: Electromagnetic hypersensitivity is characterized by an awareness and/or adverse symptomatology in response to even extremely weak (orders of magnitude below current safety levels 1,2) electromagnetic fields of multiple types (in terms of frequency/intensity and waveforms). Relevant diagnostic coding that may be used by UK medical doctors include “idiopathic/environmental intolerance (IEI)”, 3,4 code Z58.4 (Exposure to radiation) under the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10), 5 T66 (microwave syndrome)=” other unspecified effects of external causes: radiation sickness.”6 [Note: All life is electrosensitive to some degree and thresholds for conscious perception will vary depending on age, gender and individual physiology.7,8,9,10] 2. Common symptoms include: Headaches, dizziness, sleep disturbance, sensory up-regulation, palpitations, unusual pain in multiple sites, visual disturbance, auditory disturbance (esp tinnitus), membrane sensitivity, muscle twitching, dermatological complaints, hyperactivity /fatigue (depends on adrenal status/ state of EHS), restless leg syndrome, memory/concentration disturbance and anxiety11,12,13,14,15 (psychiatric symptoms such as anxiety and depression are likely to be secondary to the physiological effects rather than a primary cause 16). Interestingly, with good avoidance, symptoms tend to disappear in the reverse order that they accumulated. ***(3. thru 17. are different subject headings that follow the above 1. and 2.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Authorʼs notes: This is an opportunity for gardeners and horticulturist to share seeds I am contacted on a daily basis by a variety of different individuals including, persons with EHS, medical and seedling with others. practitioners, school and parent groups, legal representatives, media and political bodies in the UK looking for medical advice on EHS or health effects of EMF in general. Ammo, from pg. 1________ By Walt Thrun Governor Scott Walker was asked recently whether he thought the president was a Christian. He answered appropriately that it was not up to him to judge the president’s Christian faith or the lack thereof. Since then many have offered opinions on the subject stating that the president’s actions and ideology identify his mindset. That is Biblically correct. On the Sermon on the Mount Jesus did moreover explain how to tell if a person is true or false, i.e. authentic or imitation. A person does in fact reveal himself/herself by what they say and what they do. “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit.” Luke 6:43-45 The next thing then, is to identify examples of ‘bad’ fruit. For that we’ll refer to the Apostle Paul. In his letter to the Christians in Rome Paul listed numerous acts and practices that are condemned. We’ll list a small portion of them that tend to focus on one’s political ideology and personal benchmark for their perceived standard of justice. “…murder, strife, deceit… proud, boasters…undiscerning, untrustworthy…” Romans 1:2931 Let’s take them one by one. The Greek for ‘murder’ in the present context means ‘slaughter’ or ‘cut to pieces.’ Some would say that defines late term abortions. The next one is ‘strife’ which in the Greek means ‘contention,’ or ‘love of strife.’ Then there is ‘deceit’ meaning ‘craftiness,’ ‘bait,’ ‘guile,’ or ‘despiteful.’ ‘Proud’ means ‘arrogant’ while ‘boasters’ defines those who wrong others for the pleasure the affliction brings. The ‘undiscerning’ describes those lacking understanding while ‘untrustworthy’ describes those whose word cannot be trusted as truth, or one who goes back on his word. Equally significant is the following verse in the foregoing Roman passage. “…Who knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.” Romans 1:32 Paul is saying that no one is totally innocent of all the condemnable actions or practices that wouldn’t be available to gun owners, rendering the gun not he lists. The tour, centered around oil giants like Waite Phillips, gave the students an inside perspective on life in Tulsa during the 1920s. The group took a look at the beautiful architecture of buildings such as the Philcade, Atlas Life, and Mid-Continent Tower. The tour also included a trip underground to the old tunnels Waite had constructed under key buildings of the time. The original tunnels were small, damp, concrete archways with little room for comfort. After the tour the group ate at the Spaghetti Warehouse and concluded with a visit to the Center of the Universe, which perplexed the students. The Taste of Pryor is an annual event held at the MidAmerica Expo Center, sponsored by the Pryor Academic Excellence F o u n dation Bill Chupp (PAEF). The foundation provides grants to the local schools to enable the teachers to acquire items to help them in the classroom. With all the budget cuts happening to our education departments throughout the state of Oklahoma, there is always a need for more funds. Major building projects require a large bond issue to be passed by the voters in the district. At present, all schools are faced with the need for expansion. There has to be a lot of effort put into the proposal so the public can be insured they are getting the most for their bucks in the bond. At Pryor Thursday evening, the turnout of people filled the parking lot with vehicles, even after the school experienced four snow days in a row. Food was in plentiful supply from local restaurants and there was entertainment given by various departments from the schools. Funds were raised by selling food tickets, a silent auction and ended with a live auction. The only complaint I heard was the noise level. With all the activity it made it difficult to listen to the performances and the live auction. A taste of the cultural side of Pryor came at the Miss Pryor contest on Saturday evening. It was sponsored by the Pryor Creek Sertoma Club with support from the High School, local businesses and professional organizations. There were fifteen contestants this year and over $8,000 in scholarships awarded. Although this pageant does not qualify as a Miss America preliminary because of the ages of some contestants, it is a great stepping stone for the girls. The four pageant judges are all involved as directors of other contests that can boost them up into the larger titles. Who knows when one of the local participants may become Miss America! Several of our past winners have placed high in ratings in the state. After observing the quality of beauty and talent and the work of the auditorium and stage crew, it creates an interest in attending the High School play “Cinderella” this spring. The Pryor Creek Sertoma Club recognized member Ara Gregoire as their Sertoman of the Year for the extra effort she put forth this past year in their projects. She also put together the Miss Pryor program book, which will be treasured by the girls as “A Night to Remember”, this year’s theme. The Service to Mankind award was presented to non-member Donald Osborn. He has been very active in helping with the Adair Boy Scouts that is sponsored by the local Sertoma Club. In line with that, he also cooks for our charity dinner, helps with the underprivileged children’s shopping spree, Salvation Army bell ringing and the Miss Pryor Contest. A Taste of Tulsa came on Sunday afternoon. The first Sunday in March is “Souper Sunday” sponsored by Total Source for Hearing Loss and Accessories. They have a smorgasbord of soups from twenty-two restaurants in the Tulsa area, plus breads, desserts and more furnished by twelve bakeries. The theme: “Souper Disco” this year had music from the 70’s and included a costume contest. The place was packed with people, a lot with hearing loss. It was interesting to watch as several conversed in sign language. While waiting in line to pay for an item from the silent auction, a lady next to me told me she had travelled in Holland, Germany, England and France. Even in those countries, if you didn’t speak their language, the ones who signed understood when she spoke in sign language. Well, I’m full of soup and even turned down an offer for ice cream this evening. Even a small cup of soup for a taste adds up when you try a taste of twenty-two kinds plus some chocolate cake! Have a good week. KW 5.52/4x7 Rotary Tedder Ducks go to water, two by two. Politicians and lobbyists go to Congress two by two to protect the interests of big businesses and big banks. Michelle Obama has been on a campaign for more veggies in every school cafeteria. Food assistance programs from the federal government have risen to roughly a third of our nation or over 101 million at a cost of $114 billion in 2012. This means the number of people drawing food assistance outnumbers the number of people employed on a full time basis (97,180,000) in 2012. Wal-mart took in approximately 18% of food stamp dollars in 2012 for a sum of about $13 billion or 4% of Wal-Mart’s total U.S. earnings. Michelle preaches veggies, big businesses and lobbyists, lobby heavily to keep junk food available on food assistance programs. Making large companies like Wal-Mart, Coca-Cola and others, such as large banks reaping their benefits off of the backs of the poor. Nothing is passed through a government program that is not run through a lard press, rendering all the fat available to the “well connected.” Corn Refiners of America, Coca-Cola and Kraft put on their bandanas and banded together to kill a bill in Florida that wanted to disallow SNAP purchases for “junk food.” The “Bandana Gang” was successful in killing the bill. Large banks, such as J.P. Morgan makes billions from every sale paid for with government subsidized money to process transactions electronically. The ole Rancher says, “Doesn’t it seem funny private enterprises doing business with SNAP are the only ones, having knowledge of what is bought with public money. When it comes to big businesses and government, transparency is as clear as Mississippi mud.” When disorder is the order of the day, expect government to establish order before thinking of justice, civil rights or liberty. When the natural behavior of man is looked at throughout history, you can almost predetermine the future. Unbridled political power slowly turns into a blinded ideology, which has lead leaders from around the world down the same war-torn path for centuries. Leaders here at home and around the world create problems with their arrogance, which forms their opinions, void of “discriminating judgment.” Master plans are laid in alignment with their ideology despite any sound argument showing flaws in such plan. An unyielding ideology limits man’s vision, one must realize and face the difference between determination and obstinacy. Man’s truths change with the seasons. When politicians tell the generals of their armies how to fight a war, the results can be disastrous as Hitler eventually learned. After many successful battlefield campaigns, leaders start believing their own propaganda and began to believe their judgment and invincibility is without peer. Since Obama’s time in the presidential suite, we’ve bombed Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Libya, Somalia and he’s got two more years to go. When Obama confirmed the US was showering Iraq again with humanitarian bombing “to protect American interests” (oil companies) and then as an afterthought he added, “human rights in Iraq.” T h e U.S.-orchestrated coup in the Ukraine last year has Corbett Mason led to another foreign policy disaster, which like Libya has become a smoldering powder-keg. We have a U.S. military buildup in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, these Baltic States have been brought into NATO. President Obama speaking in the capital of Estonia last year, said the US commitment to protect these 3 Baltic States was unwavering and eternal. He boasted that our country would put “more American boots on the ground.” General Phillip Breedlove, the head of the US European Command and NATO’s supreme allied commander has stated, that the US European Command has conducted 67 military-to-military engagements with Poland and the Baltic States in 2014, between April and October. He went on to say the US military, “stands side-by-side with our NATO allies to provide safe; secure, reliable and effective nuclear forces to deter aggression.” When Napoleon was planning to attack Russia, he spurned the warnings from his chief advisor that advised him not to attack the Russian Empire, because he had been there. The advise was unheeded and the military campaign began on June 24, 1812 when Napoleon’s Grand Armée crossed the Neman River to find and defeat the Russian army with a combined force consisting of 680,00 soldiers, 300,000 were French departments. By November, 1812; when the remnants of the mighty French army crossed the Berezina River only 27,000 “fit” soldiers were left. The mighty bear had torn and chewed his armies to shreds, killing 380,000 with 100,000 captured. Napoleon won many victories in Russia, but lost the war as did Hitler’s armies. So went our intervention in Viet Nam, in Iraq we won the war and lost the peace. Since Viet Nam we’ve been engaged in conflicts around the world and have yet to establish a peaceful, lasting regime. Napoleon’s Russian disaster created a major shift in European politics. Prussia and Austria, which had been France’s allies switched their alliances, and this triggered, “The War of the Sixth Coalition.” This coalition was made up of Austria, Prussia, Russia, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Sweden, Spain and a number of German States. John Boehner (R-OH)N/A should continue as the Speaker of the House of Representatives. A number of brave House conservatives, led by Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R-OK)91%, Tom Massie, and Rep. Steve King (R-IA)72%, waged a historic effort to deny Boehner the Speakership. What resulted was an earth-shattering groundswell of grassroots opposition to Boehner that shocked every Republican congressman. It was unsuccessful only because a handful of otherwise reliable House conservatives chose to support Boehner and give him another chance. And look at what their vote for Boehner has wrought in just two short months. The BANNER Coburn: Convention of States Needed Because Washington Will Never Fix Itself By Barbara Hollingsworth (CNSNews.com) – “Washington is never going to fix itself,” said former Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), explaining why he intends to spend the next few years trying to “cheat history” by helping to organize the nation’s first-ever Convention of the States. about the federal government’s out-of-control spending, he pointed out. “Nobody knows when this will happen, but it will happen sooner rather than later,” he said. “Unless we unwind this, we’re going the way of the Romans and the Greeks.” The purpose of the convention will be to rein-in a federal “leviathan” that he says has overstepped its constitutional bounds. Once Boehner caved, he commissioned ads against twelve of the congressmen who voted against a short-term extension of DHS funding (many of whom voted for him in January). The content of the ads were straight out of the Obama playbook of scare tactics, positing that these congressmen were hurting the security of the country by standing up against the President’s lawlessness. If House conservatives somehow thought they were on the same team as the Speaker, they now have all the evidence in the world to the contrary. They are now the hunted. Beyond amnesty and retaliation, incompetence and liberalism has ruled the House of Representatives this year. A common-sense ban on abortions after five months of pregnancy, previously having sailed through last Congress, was pulled the same week as thousands of abortion opponents traveled to DC to March for Life. A long-term reauthorization of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) was scheduled and whipped extensively by Boehner’s leadership team before being pulled at the last minute because of a conservative revolt. In order to preserve the NCLB testing mandates he personally authored with President Bush and Senator Ted Kennedy, Boehner made House Republicans choose between him and one the chief domestic failures of the Bush years. And this week, the House engaged in a bipartisan love fest surrounding the reauthorizing of Amtrak. Boehner passed an Amtrak “reform” bill that was supported by every Democrat and opposed by over one hundred Republicans. See Vacate, pg. 8 Page 7 Corbett, from pg. 6______ gether they drove Napoleon out of Germany in 1813 and invaded France in 1814, which forced Napoleon to abdicate his leadership. Today’s allies have a way of becoming tomorrow’s enemies. If the US makes a deal with Iran, the words written in history will be “Et tu Brute?” An exclamation showing shock of betrayal by an ally. We hear our leaders speak of keeping Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb or capabilities. We can file that with you can keep your doctor and insurance, the American government isn’t spying on its citizens, the nonharmful effects of Agent Orange, why should Israel or anyone else believe what spouts up from the bubbling fountain of misinformation on Capitol Hill? American’s memories last as long as a cold beer on a hot day. When Obama was first sworn into office, he announced his intentions to normalize relations with Iran, America’s sworn enemy. Obama ignores Iran’s threat to blow Israel off of the map, Iran’s support of Shia insurgencies in Arab states, the Muslim brotherhood, Hamas and Islamic Jihad, and its consolidation of influence over Baghdad, Beirut, Damascus and Sana’a. He seems to believe the Islamic Republic of Iran is a force for stability. This paragraph was taken from an article on ACD Blog, titled “Obama’s Iran Agenda” by Rachael Ehrenfeld. The ole Rancher says, “You poke a bear with a cattle-prod long enough, he’s liable to stand up on his back legs and size you up for dinner. Followed by much pain and possibly death, heads or tails, you lose.” “Most people know Washington is broken,” he told CNSNews. com. “Politicians there care about the next election, not the next generation. The career politicians make promises knowing they will be out of office when the bills come due. And I don’t see that there’s any way Congress is going to fix this in the next 10 or 15 years. “That’s why I left early,” added Coburn, a family physician who retired from the Senate two years before his term expired after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. “I identified $400 billion of waste, fraud and duplication, but none of it was eliminated. Nobody had the courage to eliminate it. And that’s why we need a Convention of the States: to diminish the power of the federal government. JOIN THE ONLINE FARMING CONVERSATION. Trevino-Morales is reported to have run the cartel since the 2013 arrest of his brother, Miguel. The Zetas’ other biggest leader, Heriberto Lazcano, or “El Lazca,” was killed by Mexican marines in 2012. Trevino-Morales, 41, is allegedly responsible for several abductions and murders committed in Nuevo Laredo between 2005 and 2006, the U.S. State Department says. He also was allegedly the supply source for multi-kilogram loads of cocaine smuggled from Mexico to the United States. The Mexican government had offered a $2 million reward for Trevino-Morales’ capture on weapons and organized crime charges, while the U.S. State The organization grew into a ruthless security force that took responsibility for the smuggling of the Gulf Cartel’s cocaine and other drugs from Mexico into the United States, in addition to running their own smuggling operations. Vacate, from pg. 7______________________________________________________________ Thankfully, House conservatives get a do-over. House Rules provide a privileged (meaning it takes precedence over other business) resolution to vacate the office of the Speaker. It can be offered by any Member. It would be a simple majority vote. If the entire House was voting, 28 Members would be needed to depose Boehner with all of the Democrats. Once vacated, a new Speaker election would ensue. Again, as I argued in January, House conservatives do not need a formal candidate to take his place. Many will argue that they do, but they are wrong. It would be nice, but it is not crucial. The dynamic would be similar to that in 1998, when after Newt Gingrich and Bob Livingston stepped down, House Republicans themselves recognized the need for a new person to unite around. Nobody was running. They gravitated to Denny Hastert and tapped him to be Speaker. The process of “vacating the chair” is to show that Boehner cannot continue, signaling that it is time to find a replacement. A viable replacement will likely not step forward until then. Would Democrats vote to vacate Boehner from his position? Doesn’t he serve their agenda well already? Couldn’t Democrats combine with enough liberal Republicans to install a Republican worse than Boehner, as happened with Joe Straus in Texas? These are the critical questions that surfaced in January and would be used as excuses by many Republicans to skirt a difficult vote against the Speaker. The Hill is even reporting that Democrats are now flirting with supporting Boehner on such a vote. This is just a bluff to prevent such a vote and preserve their de-facto majority. National politics is far more polarized than in state capitols with a much bigger spotlight. Even with a wink and nod in the short term by party leaders, it is simply not viable in liberal districts to have a vote for Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)N/A on your record. Democrats will have to vote, and they will vote against Boehner. They will do so because they have to, and because they can have a partisan victory of seeing the chaos and demise of the current leader of the Republican party. Nor will a liberal Republican be able to secure the votes of Democrats and a small minority of Republicans. Joe Straus was initially able to do that in Texas because of the limited spotlight on a parttime legislature and by promising chairmanships to Democrats. There are few districts occupied by Republicans currently where this sort of stunning political alliance of convenience would sell. Nor would any coalition last. Most House Republicans now at least profess rock-ribbed conservatism. They can get away with moderation “to govern responsibly.” They cannot be apart of formal alliance with Democrats. Any short-term political marriage of the Straus sort would be immediately vacated by the rest of House Republicans. If House conservatives move to vacate the office of the Speaker, they will get a better result than Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)N/A. We could have been rid of Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)N/A in January. Unfortunately not enough House conservatives showed up to the fight. Since then Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)N/A has confirmed every negative critique of his Speakership. He is governing with Democrats and wreaking of incompetence in the process. This is the moment for the House Freedom Caucus (HFC) to lead. The HFC is led by Reps. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH)90%, Rep. Melynda Hickman, a biologist working in the Wildlife Diversity Program of the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, presented an overview of The Great Plains Trail and described how it is benefiting the Department and local communities. The Great Plains Trail is a highway-based wildlife-viewing tour that includes 1,777 total miles in 33 counties west of U.S. 81. The Trail is divided into 13 distinct driving loops exploring different habitats and offering sites providing wildlife viewing opportunities along the way. The lead organization for the Trail’s development, promotion and maintenance is the Oklahoma Wildlife and Prairie Heritage Alliance. The Wildlife Department helps support the Trail with a $20,000 annual grant. Hickman told Commissioners that among the Trail’s goals is to develop nature tourism, which seems to be on the rise based on the number of inquiries that sponsoring agencies have received about the Trail. Since the Trail was established in 2006, requests for Trail maps have risen from 2,000 to 10,000 annually. “Other benefits from the Department’s involvement include more opportunities to develop relationships with western Oklahoma landowners and small businesses, and the ability to foster new and nontraditional partners in wildlife conservation,” Hickman said. Commissioners also approved the creation of a youth elk gun season on private lands in the Special Southwest Zone only. The new youth elk gun seasons will run concurrently with Oklahoma’s youth deer gun season. The Special Southwest Zone includes Comanche, Caddo and Kiowa counties, and no elk harvest quota exists for the zone. Oklahoma’s first statewide private-lands elk season wrapped up this past January, and hunters reported harvesting 131 March is Big Bass Season in Oklahoma Whether you’re a tournament, trophy or recreational angler, now is the time to hit your favorite hole or try out a new body of water. Big bass are on the move, positioning themselves for the approaching spawn. The month of March offers the best opportunity to catch a lakeor state-record largemouth. Fifteen of the top 20 heaviest largemouth bass recorded in Oklahoma history have been caught in March. Three of the remaining five spots were landed in the last two days of February. It’s no coincidence record bass are caught mostly in March. “Fat reserves in female bass are the highest they will be for the year,” said Cliff Sager Fisheries senior biologist for the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. “As water temperatures begin to rise into the mid-50s, these fish will gorge on available food sources to ripen their eggs in preparation for the spawning season.” This offers Oklahoma anglers a window of opportunity to land a true giant, an opportunity made possible by the Wildlife Department’s Florida bass program. Sager, who coordinates the stocking distribution, and Ike McKay, who oversees production of the bass, operate out of the Durant Hatchery, in southcentral Oklahoma. Florida bass are genetically programmed to grow to larger sizes than the typical northern largemouth native to Oklahoma waters. The Department started the Florida bass program in the early 1970s. “We stock around 1 million Florida bass fingerlings across the state each year,” Durant Hatchery manager Gordon Schomer said. Since the program’s inception, the largemouth bass state record has been broken 10 times, including two of the past three years. Your best chance to hook one of these large fish is on days preceding or following a cold front. The next 10 days will provide Oklahoma anglers the best opportunity to land a big largemouth and possibly a new state record. Some lakes, by region, to find large bass are Lake of the Arbuckles, McGee Creek and Murray in south-central; Broken Bow, Cedar and Sardis in the southeast; Watonga in the northwest, Lawtonka in the southwest; Sooner in the north-central; Tenkiller in the east-central; and Eucha and Grand in the northeast. “Eucha produces a lot of 7- to 8-pound-plus largemouth, especially in early spring,” said Josh Johnston Northeast Region Fisheries supervisor. “Grand is arguably the best bass lake in the Midwest, and Tenkiller is home to some very healthy smallmouth bass. It is fairly common in February and March for a tournament on Tenkiller to be won with a five-fish stringer of smallmouth in the 25pound range.” It is important to remember at this time of year that a bass’ metabolism has slowed to conserve energy and weight. Typically, large bass will not exert more calories than it intakes, so large baits, fished slowly, will provide the best chance to hook a big fish. “A big bass would rather ambush one large shad and digest that meal for the rest of the day than chase around small prey, so that’s something to keep in mind when fishing at this time of year,” Sager said. If you land a fish you believe to be a lake or state record contact a Wildlife Department Fisheries Division employee or game warden in your region. See below for a list of Fisheries regional contacts. To find the game warden in your county, go to wildlifedepartment. com/laws_regs/lawstatemap.htm. Questions call: Joe Esposito 918-274-8111 ers, led by John Lewis of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (who now represents Georgia’s 5th congressional district in Congress) and the Reverend Hosea Williams, of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, departed the Brown Chapel in Selma and marched east toward Birmingham. The purpose of the march was to call attention to continued efforts by white Democrats across the South to deny blacks their right to vote under the 15th Amendment and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The march was well publicized in advance and in the hours preceding the march Dallas County Sheriff Jim Clark, a Democrat, ordered all male residents of the county, over the age of twenty-one, to report to the county courthouse to be deputized. The march was peaceful and well-ordered until the marchers reached the Pettus Bridge, where they were confronted by a phalanx of Alabama state troopers and deputized civilians. The marchers were ordered to disband and return to their homes, but when the Reverend Williams attempted to speak to the commander of the state troopers he was told that there was nothing to discuss. It was then that troopers and the members of the sheriff’s posse began shoving the demonstrators backward. Many were knocked to the ground, beaten with nightsticks, and tear gassed, while a detachment of mounted troopers charged the marchers on horseback. Seventeen were injured seriously enough to require hospitalization. In his passionate remarks on the 50th anniversary of the march, Obama recounted the progress that’s been made since the civil rights era of the 1950s and ‘60s. He said, “Because of what (the marchers) did, the doors of opportunity swung open not just for African Americans, but for every American. Women marched through those doors. Latinos marched through those doors. Asian-Americans, gay Americans, and Americans with disabilities came through those doors. Their endeavors gave the entire South the chance to rise again, not by reasserting the past, but by transcending the past.” Yes, the South did rise again, and as it did, centuryold Democratic traditions such as Jim Crow, Black Codes, and the night riders of the Ku Klux Klan came to an abrupt end during the 1950s, in part because of those who marched on “Bloody Sunday.” But as it joined the 20th century, the South became the most solidly Republican region of the country. Of twenty-six U.S. senators from the thirteen southern states, twenty-two Love The Banner? Do Us A Favor, Tell businesses to advertise with us! are Republicans and only four are Democrats. Nor could Obama resist the temptation to play the “race card” once again. He said, “Just this week, I was asked whether I thought the Department of Justice’s Ferguson report shows that, with respect to race, little has changed in this country. I understand the question, for the report’s narrative was woefully familiar. It evoked the kind of abuse and disregard for citizens that spawned the civil rights movement.” He went on to say, “Of course, a more common mistake is to suggest that racism is banished, that the work that drew men and women to Selma is complete, and that whatever racial tensions remain are a consequence of those seeking to play the ‘race card’ for their own purposes.” It is difficult to understand how a man who can read a teleprompter as skillfully as Obama could possibly have failed to notice that it is he, his wife, his attorney general, the members of the Congressional Black Caucus, and nearly every member of the “progressive intelligentsia” who regularly play the “race card” for purposes of propaganda and political advantage. In spite of the fact that no one in America has access to a wider variety of information than the man who sits in the Oval Office, he seems not to have grasped the fact that Michael Brown was not the victim of racial animus in Ferguson, Missouri. Instead, he was a common street thug who was shot to death while attempting to do serious, if not fatal, harm to a police officer. Then, with a straight face, he said, “With effort, we can roll back poverty and the roadblocks to opportunity. Americans don’t accept a free ride for anyone, nor do we believe in equality of outcomes. But we do expect equal opportunity, and if we really mean it, if we’re willing to sacrifice for it, then we can make sure that every child gets an education suitable to this new century… We can make sure every person willing to work has the dignity of a job, and a fair wage, and a real voice, and sturdier rungs on the ladder into the middle class.” This in spite of the fact that everything he and congressional Democrats have done since he entered the Oval Office has had the exact opposite effect. It is clear that he is totally ignorant of what it is that causes poverty and who it is that provides economic opportunities. In terms of the educational opportunities necessary for social and economic progress, it is Obama and his Democratic friends who have done everything in their power to destroy the quality of a public education and to eliminate as many opportunities for parental school choice as possible… leaving private schools and parochial schools to the very wealthy and the politically powerful. He concluded his remarks with a totally insincere plea for voting rights and the protection of the right to vote… what he referred to as “the foundation stone of our democracy.” He said, “Right now, in 2015, fifty years after Selma, there are laws across this country designed to make it harder for people to vote. As we speak, more of such laws are being proposed… “Fifty years ago, registering to vote here in Selma and much of the South meant guessing the number of jellybeans in a jar or bubbles on a bar of soap. It meant risking your dignity, and sometimes, your life. What is our excuse today for not voting? How do we so casually discard the right for which so many fought…?” Yes, as recently as fifty years ago, millions of blacks risked their lives attempting to exercise their franchise; thousands were shot to death, hung, or burned to death by Democrats hiding behind masks and white sheets. The only efforts at voter oppression we see today are efforts by liberals and Democrats to make voter registration and voting evermore fraud friendly, insuring that every Republican vote is canceled out by at least two Democratic votes… one legal, the other fraudulent. Nor does it seem wise to increase the percentage of voting age people to enter the voting booths on Election Day. Generally speaking, the American people know less about their government and basic economics than voters in any other nation of the free world. Would any of us want to live in a country in which the number of Obama-style voters was increased by a factor of two or three? Could such a nation actually exist? And if so, for how long? As one of my black conservative friends, radio talk show host Eddie Huff, quipped in 2007, as Barack Obama became a serious contender for the White House, “We need to ask some very serious questions of the senator from Illinois. It’s not enough to be black, it’s not enough to be articulate, and it’s not enough to be eloquent and a media darling… The only question will be how deaf an ear, or how blind an eye, will people turn in order to turn a frog into a prince.” On March 7, 2015, Barack Obama delivered what may well be remembered as the signature speech of his political career. It’s just too bad it couldn’t have been delivered by a prince… instead of a toad (er, frog).
