BEADING CLASSES WITH COLLETTE SIMPSON
The beading classes will start again in May 2015 but now is the time to register your interest as we already have places
booked. There are a number of classes that will be running including our very popular beading evenings which run on
Tuesday evenings 7.00 p.m. – 9.00 p.m. We run the classes on a fortnightly basis as we find that it suits most people not
to commit to every week and it helps us keep the groups smaller. The classes run each week, with a break over the
winter months. You can join at any time booking in a block of 4 classes (they need not be consecutive) at a cost of £50
including materials.
There will also be a variety of projects on offer at our one day workshops – if you register your details we will send on the
information as soon as it is finalised.

FELTING CLASSES
Felting is very easy once you know the basics so is suitable for complete
beginners and those with prior experience. We have 3 more classes
coming up later in the year:
 Felt bag day – Saturday 12th September. Choose the colour,
shape and size of your own unique merino wool bag
 Saturday 10th October – make your own felt beads for a
necklace. Introduce texture and size to your jewellery making. Felt
beads can be much bigger as they are so light compared to glass, clay
or even wood.
 Saturday 14th November – make felt scarves on a silk base. The
silk gives the softness and the drape. The felt brings texture, colour and pizzazz! You should
have time to make 2 scarves during the day.
EACH CLASS COSTS £45 INCLUDING ALL MATERIALS AND RUNS FROM 10.00 a.m. – 3.00 p.m.
CREATIVE EMBROIDERY CLASSES
MACHINE EMBROIDERY WITH FRAN BRAMMER
We have a new tutor at the Viking Loom. Fran, who works in the shop, is also
extremely talented at machine embroidery and has agreed to share her skills with
you. She will be teaching a series of 3 practical workshops, with each introducing
and exploring the use of freehand machine stitching combined with very different
applique techniques and approaches to making an image.
The series of classes offers very varied experiences and outcomes using fabrics in a
variety of ways, exploiting pattern, images, colour and textures, as well as
developing the use and potential of the sewing machine as an expressive piece of
equipment.
The workshops could be taken as a series building up an exciting range of skills, or each could be treated as a
separate stand alone class. The tasks undertaken are adaptable to suit personal skill levels and preferences so are
suitable for novices through to more experienced stitcher.

students working on crewel work techniques. In the past the ladies have completed all shapes of
cushions, box lids, samplers and pictures. Students bring their own projects and Wendy helps
everyone to work towards completing them. Alternatively Wendy will start you off with a pretty
sampler of canvaswork stitches. She is an extremely helpful and practical needlewoman with a
wealth of experience and a great eye.

CREWEL WORK CLASSES
This class is designed for stitchers completely new to crewel work as well as those who have more
experience .This is because Philippa has taken a section of an Elizabethan jacket and created a
scrolling vine leaf printed onto linen twill. She will show you how to draw on the long and short
stitches so that you completely master this technique of giving the gorgeous flowing shading effect.
She will compare Elizabethan, Jacobean and Arts & Crafts ways of stitching the design, so revealing
the historical as well as the technical basis of these lovely stitches. Plenty of time allowed for this
workshop but you will not complete the whole design in the day. All materials for the design
included.
