WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE RISING SOPHOMORE HOUSING SELECTION PROCESS? Answer: Rising Sophomores – Current first‐year students who reside in the residence halls and were admitted to the University as first‐time residents during the 2014‐2015 year. • Students who are not guaranteed on‐campus housing (i.e. transfer students, commuting students) are not eligible to participate in this housing selection process. • Eligible students cannot select ineligible students as roommates. • A student’s eligibility to participate in the housing selection process may also be affected by his/ her disciplinary record. 6 Q. HOW IS MY SELECTION TIME DETERMINED? Answer: Students who complete the housing application will be issued a computer‐generated random housing selection time. • Separate selection times are generated for male and female students. • Factors such as previous housing assignment, assignment to a converted triple room, roommate concerns, academic standing, facilities concerns, participation in special activities or other factors are not considered when generating selection times. • The demand for residence in certain halls, especially Sheehan and Sullivan Halls, exceeds the capacity of those halls. It is important for students with later selection times to think about other housing options beyond their first or second choices and discuss alternate housing options with potential roommates. 7 Q. CAN I CHOOSE A ROOMMATE(S)? Answer: YES ‐ a student can secure housing as an individual or with a roommate(s). • Students who select double rooms as individuals will be housed with random roommates. • As necessary, Residence Life will consolidate single students in double rooms to create double vacancies during the selection process. While building choice will be honored, students may be consolidated into rooms that were not their original choice. In rare circumstances, students assigned to Sheehan or Sullivan Halls may be reassigned to either Sheehan or Sullivan Halls. • Students may only choose a roommate who is currently eligible to participate in the Rising Sophomore Housing Selection Process. 8 Q. CAN I CHOOSE A ROOMMATE(S)? (CONT’D) • In order to secure housing with roommates, ALL students who wish to reside together must complete a Housing Application and enter the VU ID numbers of their preferred roommate(s) at the time of completion of the housing application. Please be sure to verify VU ID numbers before completing the application. • Students may add, change, or view their roommate status online until April 9 at 8:30 am. • Please remember if adding or changing your preferred roommate(s), ALL students involved with the change must make the appropriate changes to their online housing application for the updates to be confirmed. 9 Q. CAN I SELECT HOUSING FOR MY ROOMMATE(S)? Answer: Yes ‐ the student with the earliest selection time will be able to secure housing for all roommates. • Please be sure that your selected roommate is actually someone that you want to live with! Do not choose a roommate simply because he/she has a better selection time. You will not be able to change roommates online after April 9 at 8:30 am. • In an effort to discourage improper attempts to manipulate the selection process, “one‐for‐one” room changes (i.e. residents switching roommates with one another) will not be permitted. Only those roommates applying to change their room together or students seeking a new room will be considered for a room change. 10 Q. WHAT ARE MY HOUSING OPTIONS FOR NEXT YEAR? Answer: Students can choose room assignments in the following halls: • • • • Fedigan Hall – Double Rooms Sullivan Hall – Double Rooms Sheehan Hall – Double Rooms (plus 2 Male Triple Rooms and 2 Female Triple Rooms) Delurey Hall – Predominately Double or Converted Triple Rooms o o o o • Students may opt to reside in a converted triple room in Delurey Hall. These rooms are normally used as doubles, but are large enough to accommodate three full sets of furniture (bed, desk and wardrobe). Students residing in a converted triple room at the start of the semester will receive a discount of approximately $1000.00 on the cost of their room per semester. Students residing in standard triple rooms are not eligible for the discount. Converted triple rooms are not available in other Sophomore halls. Sophomore students may request, but will not be assigned to converted tripled rooms. The “Choice House” in Simpson Hall o Single, Double, Triple and Quad Rooms o “Substance‐Free” Living Option • Honors Housing in Corr Hall o o Single Rooms A housing option for Honors Students who resided in the Freshman Honors Building and who wish to reside in an Honors Housing Community during their Sophomore year. 11 Q. Answer: If you plan to study abroad next year and desire on campus housing in either the fall or the spring, you should still complete the Housing Application and indicate which semester you plan to be abroad. These students will not receive a housing selection time. •If your plans are confirmed for the Spring Semester, please select “Abroad Spring Semester”. These students will receive a housing selection time. •If you do not plan to study abroad next year, please select “Not Going Abroad”. These students will receive a housing selection time. 13 IF YOU PLAN TO STUDY ABROAD NEXT FALL… Students will be assigned housing for the Spring 2016 semester in the order that they confirm their study abroad plans via the Housing Application. Students with earlier confirmation dates will be housed first. • Residence Life will guarantee a student an on‐campus housing assignment upon his/her return from abroad. However, Residence Life cannot guarantee a student a particular housing assignment. Residence Life will not remove a student from his/her assignment nor leave a space vacant to accommodate the needs of a returning student. • If a study abroad plans change, please contact Residence Life immediately. Residence Life will assign the student to a class appropriate housing assignment for the Fall Semester. 14 WHAT DO I DO - I WANT TO LIVE IN THE QUAD, BUT THERE ARE NO ROOMS AVAILABLE AT MY SELECTION TIME? Before your selection time: Have a plan! • • • • Sheehan and Sullivan Halls (“The Quad”) house approximately 400 male and 400 female sophomore students. There are approximately 1600 total residents in the class. While it is impossible to predict when all rooms in the Quad will be selected, Sheehan and Sullivan Halls have historically been among the first halls to be selected. PLEASE think about other housing options beyond your first or second choices and discuss alternate housing options with potential roommates prior to selection. After discussion, create a preference list that identifies (in your preferred order from 1‐10) the halls where you would like to live. At your selection time: Secure Housing! • • Even if your top choices are not available, be sure to secure on campus housing either as an individual or with your roommate(s). Use your preference list to guide your selection based on availability. After your selection time: Submit a Room Change Form • • Room change forms will be emailed to all students at the end of the selection process on April 22. The room change process will continue through the summer months. If vacancies should arise, Residence Life will continue to use selection times to determine the order of room changes. 15 Housing Selection STEP 1 – COMPLETE THE HOUSING APPLICATION Go to www.housing.villanova.edu and log in (screenshot below) ‐ please use Mozilla Firefox or Safari as your web browser ‐ Internet Explorer users may need to reload the page after logging in 17 STEP 1 – COMPLETE THE HOUSING APPLICATION Click on “Rising Sophomore Housing Application” link which applies to you.
