E-NEWSLETTER March/April 2015 Longview Baptist Church Newsletter Ever heard, or said yourself, “ I know I should, but I just don’t?” We say we know we should eat right but we don’t. We know we should exercise but we don’t. We believe we should spend more time with our family, but it doesn’t happen. Often there is a great canyon of disconnect between our brain (what we know) and our body (what we do). This is often even more common in our spiritual lives. Recently I shared in our series “Pursuing God” that practically 100% of Christians believe they should be reading the March 29, 2015 Palm Sunday April 5, 2015 Easter Sunday 8:00AM & 10:30AM Bible. Yet a Lifeway Research study from 2013 indicates that only 11% read the Bible daily, 27% read it at least once a week, 27% read it at least once a month, and 34% admit to reading it rarely or never. We say knowing God and growing in a relationship with Him is important yet the majority of Christians won’t even read their Bible this week. Another prime example is the Great Commission. Practically every Christian would say that it is important that we share our faith. Yet a Lifeway Research study from 2014 indicates that in the last six months 78% of Christians did not share their faith at all, 15% shared it one to two times and only 7% three or more times. They were additionally asked in the last six months, how many times they had invited an unchurched person to attend a service or program. 59% said zero, 30% said one to two times and 10% said three or more times. Very soon our greatest day of celebration will be upon us, Resurrection Sunday. This year it is on April 5. This is the greatest opportunity we have to invite someone to hear about Christ as the majority of people around us are open to an invitation to church on Easter Sunday. I want to encourage each of us to not just “know” what we should do, but actually do it. Begin to pray now that God would place one or several people in your path to invite to join you for Easter Worship. We will have two services that day, an early one at 8:00 and then at our regular worship time of 10:30. Remember that something as simple as an invitation from you could change someone’s life now and forever. Bro Robby Each week our children will be focusing on learning bible scriptures. We have had several children that have learned their verses including our very young ones. When your child learns their verses and recites it during Children’s Church they will be recognized on our bulletin board outside the Children’s Chapel. What a “Great” way to Transform our Children into “Spiritual” Champs! Bible verse for the next three weeks is John 11:25-26. Sunday, February 22, 2015 Sunday, March 1, 2015 Sunday, March 8, 2015 John 11:25-26 New International Version (NIV) 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” Bible verses for the following dates are Matthew 13:10-11. Sunday, March 15, 2015 Sunday, March 22, 2015 Sunday, March 29, 2015 Sunday, April 5, 2015 Sunday, April 12, 2015 Matthew 13:10-11 New International Version (NIV) 10 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” 11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. “ Dry Creek Baptist Camp Lona Aucoin, Randi Lucas, Maddalyn Brown, & Jennifer Middleton getting ready for the Ropes Course last year at Dry Creek. For more information about Dry Creek click on link http://drycreek.net/summer-camp/ July 13-16 Camp Deposits are Due March 22nd D- F Y outh News ebruary is already here and the choir has already begun rehearsing for their Easter musical. The title of this year’s musical is “Who Do You Say I Am?,” and it prompts us to examine who Christ is in our lives. Growing up I heard one of my pastors say in one of his sermons that based on your spiritual condition you will either say that Jesus is a liar, lunatic, or Lord. This musical includes some of the great songs about Jesus’ death and resurrection that we are all familiar with and have sung in church for all of our lives. It also includes testimonies from six biblical characters that tell about the Jesus that they knew and loved. The choir will perform this musical on Palm Sunday, March 29 during the morning worship service, so please make plans to attend and celebrate Jesus’ victorious resurrection with us! If you are interested in singing in the Easter musical, you can join us for rehearsal on Sunday evenings at 4:45. I would like to start off In Christ, saving relationship with Christ. Thank you for your support through giving Chad with a HUGE thank you to our church members and your generosity in helping make this year’s cake auction our best yet! We raised over $4,000 to help our youth go to summer camp this year through this one fundraiser. Thank you for willingly baking cakes and buying them. Looking ahead to the next two months has me excited about God’s work in the lives of our students here at Longview Baptist Church. So far our Wednesday night services and small groups have been going great and we have been able to reach out to new students each week. We have had some of our largest Wednesday night attendances these past couple of months. But looking ahead, our Disciple Now is right here upon us. It will take place March 27-29th. “The Spark”, a band coming all the way from Wisconsin, will be leading us in worship, and Taylor Tuggle, a leader in the BCM at ULM will be coming down to bring us God’s Word. Please be praying that God works in the lives of our students through this event and that they will grow in their relationship with the Lord. As for our Missions, these next two months are pivotal. We will be sending a team to Southeast Asia for the purpose of spreading the Good News of Christ. Please pray for the safety of our team and most importantly, the hearts of those that will hear the Gospel! How great will it be one day when we meet those that we shared Jesus with in Heaven! Also, our Alaska mission team keeps growing. We now have 16 people going to Alaska to help serve and minister to those in Wasilla, Alaska. We will be spending each day putting on a VBS-like event at city parks there in Wasilla and will have the opportunity to share Jesus with many children that may have never even heard His name. Be praying as we prepare our games, crafts, and studies to teach and lead people to a and praying. God Bless.
