Our Founder Chairman, Dr Purnendu Roy is a postgraduate
from JIPMER. In his time he had also qualified for both
AIIMS and IIT. But he followed his heart and is today a
legendary figure in the field of LAPAROSCOPY, for the last
twenty years. He is a role model and inspiration for many
aspirants in the field of medicine.
COURSES
JIPMER offers a variety of courses. Undergraduate courses
include MBBS, BSc (Medical Laboratory Technology),
BMRSc (Bachelor of Medical Record Science). BSc
(Nursing) was started in 2006. Postgraduate courses
include MD, MS, and diploma in many specialties, MSc
in Medical Biochemistry and PhD in several subjects.
Super-specialty courses include MCh in cardiothoracic
surgery, urology, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, paediatric
surgery, gastro intestinal surgery and DM in cardiology,
neurology, urology, neonatology, clinical pharmacology
and immunohematology. In January 2014 JIPMER started
master’s in public health course.Other courses include a
certificate course in French, a higher diploma course in
French, Emergency Medical Technician course MRO and
MRT.
ADMISSION
Candidates to the courses offered at JIPMER are
selected based on an entrance examination followed
by an interview. Entrance examinations are held once a
year; calls for applications are announced in all major
newspapers in India as well as on the official website. The
results of the entrance examinations and the names of
selected candidates are published in the newspapers and
on the official website.

JIPMER is a residential medical institution with its own
campus spread over 195 acres. Every year it admits 145
undergraduate students and 75 postgraduate students.

PRE-MEDICAL TEST
The All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) is a
yearly college entrance examination in India.
The exam is conducted by Central Board of
secondary education (CBSE), New Delhi. The test
is conducted for admission into Medical & Dental
colleges in several colleges across India.
• Total no. of Medical Colleges in India: 353
• Total no. of Seats in Medical Colleges in
India: 43515
Presently, 15% of the total seats in all medical
and dental colleges run by the Union of India,
state governments, municipal, or other local
authorities in India, except in the states of Andhra
Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, are reserved
for candidates who pass this examination.
There are also State Governments/Universities/Institutions
voluntarily participating in the All India Pre-Medical/
Pre-Dental Entrance Test, for using its merit list for
admission in the Medical Colleges/Dental Colleges
against seats under their control.
The responsibility of the CBSE is limited to the conduct of
the entrance test, declaration of result and providing merit
list to the DGHS and participating States/Universities/
Institutions. The counseling for successful candidates under
15% All India Quota seats is conducted by the DGHS and
the Counselling for admission in seats under the control
of other participating States/Universities/Institutions shall
be conducted by their respective Authorities.

The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical
Education & Research (JIPMER) is a medical school
in India, and the oldest to teach European medicine
in Asia. It is located at Pondicherry, the capital of the
union territory of Puducherry, in southern India. JIPMER
is an Indian central government funded institute with
autonomy to run its internal administration. JIPMER is
both an educational institute that imparts undergraduate
and postgraduate medical training and a working hospital
that provides inexpensive medical care to a large number
of patients. JIPMER is an institute of national importance
and a tertiary care referral hospital that is under the direct
administrative control of Directorate General of Health
Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,
Government of India.
All-India Institute of Medical Sciences was established
as an institution of national importance by an Act of
Parliament with the objects to develop patterns of
teaching in Undergraduate and Post-graduate Medical
