INTRODUCTION
The development of frameworks at the national
and institutional levels that facilitate and
encourage academic-industry partnerships,
particularly in the field of technology transfer,
is a complex matter for which there can be no
pre-defined recipe.
Historical, economic,
cultural and political circumstances will affect
the policy choices available in each context and
influence their outcome and success in
implementation. Encouraging technology
transfer from academics to the private sector
has been identified in many countries as a
desirable goal, not only to enhance the
competitiveness of the private sector through
access to innovative research results but also to
ensure that university R&D results are made
available to society through their
commercialization. Intellectual property (IP)
rights have become a widely used tool in many
countries to promote university-industry
partnerships as they can provide the necessary
incentives to facilitate an effective transfer of
technology. A key challenge for governments
and institutions is to adequately support the
technology transfer process through various
mechanisms, including the use of IP rights,
while not losing sight of, and reinforcing, the
educational and research mission of
universities. The objective of this workshop is
to provide an exposure to the participants to the
importance of the resource mobilization,
government policy, issue and challenges of
technology development and transfer to
industry. An attempt will be made to encourage
both academics and industry personal to
enforce them to enhance the UniversityIndustry interaction. The focus is on how to
create the appropriate method for the
management of patents by academic section
and their effective transfer to industry.
OBJECTIVES
The University has established Industry Consultancy
Cell which aims to
" Reduce the gap between industry expectations
(practice) and academic offerings (theory) by
direct involvement of industry to attain a
symbiosis.
" Foster strong links with industry for collaborative
research, technology transfer and specialized
human resource development.
" Encourage R & D Organizations to conduct joint
reserah work involving faculty / scientists /
students / research scholars etc.
" Arrange technical festivals/open houses/student
design competitions.
" Conduct personality development workshops for
students relating with soft skills (communication
skills/personality development)
" Update the knowledge base of professionals in
different emerging sectors.
" Arrange short term programmes in various
technical disciplines.
" Set up of innovation centres and centres of
excellence.
" Promote homegrown technologies
