THM-100 Manual Section 2 Installation and Facilitization 2.1 Wall or Rack mounting The THM-100 instrument weighs ~100 pounds. Four holes in the rear unistrut will accommodate up to 3/8” (10 mm) bolts or mounting studs. Spacing of the holes is 22.25” (565 mm) horizontally and 58” (1473 mm) vertically. See drawings following. 2.2 Clearance Requirements Recommend at least 4” (10 cm) clearance on each side of the THM-100 and at least 2 feet (.6 m) clearance in front of the THM-100. The doors are capable of swinging ~150 degrees. 2.3 Facilities The instrument requires the following facilities: Electrical Power Single phase 110 VAC (10 A) or 230 VAC (5 A) (automatically switches internally and will accept voltages over a range of 85-264 VAC) The THM typically draws less than 1 Amp, with a maximum possible continuous amperage of 4.6 A (at 120 VAC) or 2.5 A (at 230 VAC). Installation should include an external, accessible breaker or switch. If a circuit breaker is provided, it should be rated ≥ 10 A at 120 VAC or ≥ 5 A at 230 VAC and have current vs. time delay curves such that it will allow for a cold start inrush current of 70 A for less than 1/60th of a second. A 10 Amp 3-pole breaker with D tripping characteristics meets those requirements. (e.g. ABB’s S 223-K 10 meets those requirements.) Electrical hookup is done internal to the top cabinet via hardwired made to the instrument’s disconnect switch. Wiring used to the instrument should meet local code and should be at least 14 AWG (conductor diameter ≥ 1.63 mm). Power should include Line (L), Neutral (N), and Ground/Earth (G/E). The power line should enter the cabinet through the right-hand conduit fitting. L & N go to the disconnect switch and G/E goes to the ground lug. Clean Dry Air or N2 20 - 100 psig at inlet, less than 0.1 scfm (1.4 – 7 Bar, max of 10 Lpm, average of 1 Lpm) An SMC KQ2LE01-00 fitting, a “one-touch” bulkhead elbow fitting on the left side of the instrument receives air through 1/8” tubing. Installation should include an external, accessible shutoff valve. (Optional Compressor for Dry Air) If there is no CDA supply facilitized close to the THM-100 instrument, a portable air-compressor can be used, with the following strongly preferred specifications: Oil-free ~10 Liter (or larger) capacity tank Tank pressure >90 psig The following models, among many others that meet these specifications, are: Sealey SAC05020 Bostitch SFC50OL-U Ridgid OF45175 Installation and Facilitization AMS CONFIDENTIAL – PROTECTED BY NDA The information in this manual is the copyrighted, trade secret material of AMS. The exit of the moisture separator should be supplied with a “one-touch” 1/8” tubing fitting. Drain Drain for sample water and any pre-sample purge water. The water contains minute amounts of Quencher and Descaler (if needed). pH is typically 3-10 in water collected from the drain. Drain should receive less than .5 liters per hour (normally much less) but at a .5 liters per minute flowrate. An SMC KQ2LE01-00 fitting, a “one-touch” bulkhead elbow fitting on the left side of the instrument accepts 1/8” tubing for a drain line. Water in (Sample) 20-100 psig at inlet, capable of flow at 0.4 gph (1.4 – 7 Bar, capable of 0.25 lpm) Input should ideally have a regulator maintaining inlet pressure 30-40 psig (2.0-2.75 Bar), the preferred pressure at the instrument. The instrument does have an internal water regulator. The sample inlet should have an external, accessible shutoff valve. An SMC KQ2LE01-00 fitting, a “one-touch” bulkhead elbow fitting on the left side of the instrument accepts 1/8” tubing for the sample inlet. Vent Process vapors are vented through an activated charcoal filter in the middle cabinet. The middle cabinet has positive ventilation. If any odors are detected (except during periodic replenishment of chemical consumables), it indicates there may be a minor internal leak. Call for service. Environment The instrument requires a ventilated space with temperature 5-35 C, humidity <80% (less above 31 C), and access to the front and both sides of the tool (see installation drawing following). The space should have some turnover of air with outside (fresh) air, especially in the case of fumes/odors. Communication For user convenience, the instrument is equipped with external Ethernet and USB ports. Note: Unless IP67 ethernet or USB connections are made, the instrument loses its NEMA-4X rating on the top cabinet when these connections are uncapped and in use. Replacing the caps restores the ratings. The instrument has 4 channels of 4-20 mA output available as follows o Channel 1, Level of dominant species (typically chloroform), connections between +24 VDC and Iout0. o Channel 2, Level of Total THMs, connections between +24 VDC and Iout1. o Channel 3, Tool Status, connections between +24 VDC and Iout2. o Channel 4, Concentration Alarm status, connections between +24 VDC and Iout3. o AGND on the USB-3102 needs to be connected to -24 VDC (Ground) The instrument is capable of email notification of events and results (only if hooked up to the LAN and allowed external privileges).
