POSITION SUMMARY
The Technical assistant is going to lead the water, sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) component in
Somalia, in supporting all the projects and primarily working with the project engineers, program
managers and the Somalia team. The incumbent will be the technical lead for WASH in Somalia and
represent Adeso in the WASH and other technical coordination forums. The technical assistant will
report to the deputy country director, and closely work with the Somalia country management team

3. Represent Adeso in WASH thematic technical coordination forums, both in Somalia and in
Kenya
4. Working closely with the program design and quality unit on the WASH business development
SPECIFIC ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical program support
 Lead the design, development and the implementation of WASH interventions in Somalia (from the
proposal design, assessment, quality implementation and the monitoring of the WASH activities)
 Lead the WASH intervention operation planning and the ensuring the appropriate delivery as per
the donor rules and guidelines
 Provide technical guidance to the field teams on the WASH activities planning, implementation, the
monitoring and the proper reporting
 Ensure the proper integration of WASH component into all other Adeso thematic areas (food
security, resilience and livelihood etc.)
 Promote the development, adaptation, testing and the mainstreaming of best practices in WASH
interventions, through the needs assessment, program design and implementation
 Provide capacity building initiatives to the WASH team-training and mentoring
 Strengthen the efficient and effective monitoring and evaluation for the WASH activities
 Represent Adeso in WASH cluster coordination forums, both in Somalia and in Kenya, as well other
relevant technical coordination forums (inter-cluster coordination, WASH cluster, OCHA lead
coordination meeting, the local authorities and other partners regular coordination meeting
Program development



Work closely with the program design and development unit in active involvement in the process of
program development to identify and respond to opportunities for work both in the current
operation areas as well as new geographic areas in Somalia
Work with other technical assistants, advisors and the program team in developing, integrating
WASH interventions in all the program development in Somalia
Work with the WASH clusters members, the UN OCHA lead coordination and other WASH partners
in identifying opportunities and contributing to strategic partnership
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS









Professional degree in water sanitation engineering, environmental health or related field
Extensive experience in WASH program implementation at the field-level in humanitarian contexts,
preferably in Somalia
Good understanding of WASH to food security and resilience, as well as including cross-cutting
issues such as DRR and environment
Proposal writing experience and familiarity with donor compliance.
Excellent knowledge of and experience with humanitarian guidelines and principles.
Ability to multi-task, meets short deadlines, and effectively handles stressful situations.
Demonstrated capacity building skills for field teams
Fluency in English. Somali speakers strongly preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish motivate and maintain effective working relations
with the project team and other field staff.



Strong written and oral communications skills including ability to write technical documents and
give presentations to colleagues in and outside of Adeso
Proficiency in computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, power point, etc.
Ability to live and work in an isolated area in conditions of limited comfort.
