Minister’s Corner

ERIC
STEPHENS

Baptist Church
The God who promises
“Now may the God of
peace who brought again
from the dead our Lord
Jesus, the great shepherd
of the sheep, by the blood
of the eternal covenant,
equip you with everything
good that you may do his
will, working in us that
which is pleasing in his
sight, through Jesus Christ,
to whom be glory forever
and ever. Amen” (Hebrews
13:20-21)
The last few weeks, we
have been reminded that
God is the God of Peace and
the God Who Cares. Today,
we see He is the God Who
Promises: “by the blood of
the eternal covenant.”
The foundation of our
hope is God being God and
keeping His word:
His word that Jesus
died in our place and paid
our debt (see Isaiah 53:5-6;
Colossians 2:13-14).
His word that He would
forgive the sins of all who
repent and trust in Jesus
Christ as Lord and Savior
(see Mark 1:15; Romans
10:9-11).
His Word that He would
give us new hearts (see Ezekiel 36:26; Jeremiah 31:3134; Luke 22:20).
His Word that He would
fill us with His Spirit (see
John 14:16, 15:26; Luke
24:29; Acts 1:4-5).
His Word that He would
“never leave us nor forsake
us” (Hebrews 13:5).
Remember, God’s Word
is not a seasonal word. It’s a
word from God, a promise
from God, that is eternal:
“by the blood of the eternal covenant.” The blood
of Jesus eternally and permanently satisfied God’s
wrath and God’s demand
for justice.
Child of God, God is not
going to pull the rug out
from under you one day. He
will not grow tired of you.
You will not ever exhaust
His grace. I know it’s hard
to believe most days, but
you will run out of sin and
rebellion before His grace
runs out. You will run out
of unbelief and doubt before
His grace towards you runs
out. If you have repented of
rebellion against God and
trusted Jesus died for your
sin, you have an eternal
promise from God!
All of this seems almost
unbelievable. It almost
sounds too good to be true.
It sounds scandalous. And
it is! But it’s true. It’s the
gospel of Jesus Christ.
The saved person cannot
be separated from God’s
love. The saved person will
not fall away. God will keep
His people. The Great Shepherd will keep His sheep.
How do I know? He promised.
