Have you ever made a May Day basket? Traditionally, these cone-shaped baskets were made and hung on a neighbor's doorknob on May 1. Join us to make three small baskets. Fresh flowers, candy, seed packets and materials will be provided. Cost is $30 for three small baskets, or $35 if ready-made. Pay cash or check at the door. For reservations or ready-made orders, email the Horticulture Center by clicking the RSVP button below. All proceeds benefit the Illinois State University Horticulture Center. *LARRY R. MILLER SCHOLARSHIP: Larry R. Miller served with distinction at Illinois State University from 1971 until his death in January, 1993. This scholarship has been established by Larry's family and friends to perpetuate the pursuit of quality that motivated him. The scholarship is for an undergraduate student enrolled as a major in a program in the College who has completed 60 hours of credit course work, 30 of which should have been completed at Illinois State University. Deadline is Friday, May 8th. Kennel Assistants. Wish Bone Canine Rescue is accepting applications for Kennel Assistants. Those selected will master the basics of facility disinfection, canine behavior, and observation and veterinary treatment of canines in a shelter setting. Hard working individuals will then move on to additional tasks involving vaccination, surgical assisting, sample collection such as blood draws, and even assisting with anesthesia under a veterinarian’s supervision. Your dedication is rewarded with a higher than average wage and special projects that add to your expertise and look great on a resume. This is a one credit work/study course that needs to be approved by your advisor. Ten to twenty hours per week depending on availability. (4/13/15) Faculty Extension Assistant (4-H)- University Of Maryland - The Faculty Extension Assistant in the Frederick County Office is responsible for supporting the development, implementation and evaluation of educational programs for youth and adults participating with the 4-H Youth Development Program. The focus for this position will be on animal, human and environmental sciences programming. Initiatives will be based upon Signature Programs and other evidence-based programs that support statewide priorities as determined by the University of Maryland Extension Impact Teams and local needs. See the job board for more details. (4/13/15) Garden Assistant Needed For Full-Time Position In University Of Illinois Extension-Mclean County Office during the growing season (6 months). This position would work with the Horticulture Educator, Local Foods and Small Farms Educator and 4-H Youth Development Educator to plan and implement summer programs and a large scale garden at the Unity Community Center. (4/13/15) Social Media Internship: Illinois Corn Marketing Board has an internship opportunity. Applications (please include a resume and writing sample) are due on May 1, with interviews being held in Bloomington, IL June 8-12, 2015. Selected interns will be notified by July 1 and will begin their social media programs on August 17. Students will be required to attend a midterm meeting in Bloomington in September (date TBD) to evaluate progress. Receipt of a final report by January 1, 2016 will conclude the internship. A Warehouse Examiner examines and audits commodity warehouses for USDA regulatory compliance. Commodity groups audited include grain, cotton, peanuts and sugar. Selected candidate must have ability to work around grain elevators and commodity warehouses. The position involves 100% travel with approx. 50% overnight travel. All travel costs paid by USDA. Position is a full time permanent federal government position.
