AISA CONGRES - CONGRES AISA
Announcement AISA CONGRESS Theme : Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security in Africa: Valorization of Acquired Knowledge "Researchers and actors of the national systems of agricultural research and vulgarization, you are called upon to contribute to the dissemination of research results in tropical agriculture" From 16 to 20 November 2015 YAMOUSSOUKRO, CÔTE D'IVOIRE I. Context Agricultural research is a major challenge in the definition of agricultural and socio-economic development policies. However, it has not yet sufficiently impacted this sector in most African countries. This situation is due, among other things to the weakness of transfer of scientific and technological achievements in the agricultural sector. Therefore, it become essential to develop tools for a better dissemination of results in agricultural research. In addition, the relay between seniors and young researchers from national agricultural research systems (universities, colleges, research centres, etc.) is not sufficiently insured. This situation risks undermining gravely, in the near future, sustainability of scientific findings and the renewal of aging scientist by a younger and well-trained African researchers. According to this observation, the Ivorian Association of Agronomy (AISA) intends to contribute to the promotion of research teams in Africa, in general, and Ivory Coast, in particular, through a scientific and technical platform of exchanges on issues of agricultural development. This scientific forum aims, therefore, to overcome the lack of frameworks for scientific meetings in the region and, ensure a privileged medium for the promotion and training of doctoral fellows and young researchers who are key players in the national agricultural research systems (NARS). Indeed, they occur both in the collection and processing of data, as well as, in the publication of research results. This Congress on agricultural sciences, the first of its kinds is organized by AISA in Côte d'Ivoire, constitutes a framework of international scientific meeting that will discuss the major global issues in tropical agriculture, such as: adaptation of agriculture to climate change, sustainability of the farming systems, land and soil management, post-harvest management and food security. This scientific medium will provide doctoral students, young scientists and senior researchers from the NARS, an opportunity to publish original works in peer-review journals, such as Agronomie Africaine and to strengthen their capacities for research management. II. Objectives The congress aims to initiate collaborative endeavors in agricultural research between scientists, disseminate and valorize research findings for a competitive and sustainable agricultural development to meet the needs for food security of the populations in Africa. Specifically, it will enable to: ¬ Create a framework for meeting and exchange between researchers of the NARS, scientific associations, agricultural professional organizations, NGOs and policymakers of African countries. MESRS MINAGRI ¬ Promote young researchers through the valorization of research results. ¬ Publish original works in peer-reviews journals such as Agronomie Africaine ¬ Promote Excellency to young scientists awards in themes of interest. ¬ reinforce the capacity of young researchers by a pre-conference training III. Presentation of AISA The Ivorian Association of Agricultural Sciences (AISA) was created in 1981 by the first Ivorian researchers working in different French research institutions (IRHO - LAME, IRD, IRCC, IRCA, IRFA, CTFT, etc.) operating in Côte d'Ivoire. It is a scientific society that brings together researchers, university professors and senior technicians, engineers working in the main research institutions, as well as doctoral students engaged in agricultural research and research-development in Côte d’Ivoire. After 30 years of existence, many scientific achievements can be credited to AISA, including: capacity-building of Ivorian and expatriate researchers working in the National Agronomic Research (NARS); the building up of a tradition of exchanges with the rural world and the development of a partnership through regional conferences and symposia; scientific achievements in the agricultural and agro-industrial level (Production liquor from coffee and cocoa extracts, wine from cocoa, development of crops such as oil palm and rubber trees in marginal areas, etc.); the writing of a national agricultural investment plan on behalf of the Ministry of agriculture in Côte d'Ivoire. Last AISA is proud of its scientific journal Agronomie Africaine, a reference peer-review scientific journal of jointly financed by CORAF/WECARD. MESRS MINAGRI
