$99 for the bus, driver tip & first

The natural splendor of the Verde Canyon clearly identifies it as a state treasure, as deemed by Arizona’s governor in 2005. The train is
the perfect venue from which to discover its history and see
the Canyon, whose intrinsic beauty is eternal through all
seasons. Mountains of slag from a bygone mining era
welcome passengers as they bid farewell to Clarkdale and
launch into the inner sanctum of the Canyon.
Ancient Sinagua Indian dwellings carved into the landscape
and remnants of early pioneers have left their indelible mark
along the route. Astonishing views of a wild and alive frontier
are still visible around every bend as the train winds its way
northward on tracks once intended for a copper industry that
is now just a recollection. Dinner on own in Clarkdale

A mysterious Scottish village appears for only one
day every hundred years, though to the villagers
each century seems no longer than one night. No
one from Brigadoon may ever leave, or the enchantment will be broken and the site and all its
inhabitants will disappear into the mist forever.
Two American tourists, lost in the Scottish Highlands, stumble upon the village just as a wedding is
about to be celebrated and their arrival has serious
implications for the village's inhabitants.
First Concert of the Season with reserved Seating
Thursday, January 12 at 7 pm
THE FOLK COLLECTION
SINGING THE CLASSIC SONGS OF THE 60S FOLK ERA
In the great
tradition of the
folk groups of
the 60s, The
Folk Collection entertains
with its unique
blend and
sound, and
with a repertoire that is
familiar to audiences of all ages. Tony Unger, Ed
Labowitz and Mike Sirota sing songs of the 60s and
early 70s, reflecting their love of the story songs, great
melodies, and three part harmonies of that acoustic era.
The Folk Collection’s shows are family friendly and can
be for a multi-generational audience. Even teenagers,
“dragged” to an evening with parents or grandparents,
leave the show smiling and humming tunes they just
heard and sang along with at the show. The group encourages audience participation, energizing the crowd
with family-friendly humor and ad libs between songs.
Singing songs like “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “This Land is
Your Land,” “City of New Orleans,” to John Denver
classics, The Folk Collection’s shows are nostalgic and
entertaining. Their shows produce standing ovations
from audiences and rave reviews from presenters.
Tickets are $15 & $12 for reserved seats.
"The Entertainers of Golden Vista “will perform an original Western Musical: “I Love You Arizona” which commemorates the day on
which Arizona was admitted into the Union as the 48th State. It is filled with a star-studded cast of actors, singers and dancers, who
will provide you with exceptional entertainment as singing cowboys, attractive saloon girls, wise and witty quilters and town favorites,
which include a provocative mayor, a popular auctioneer, a clever Madam with a mysterious past, and an unexpected Eastern
stranger whose appearance complicates an already complicated decision. Conflict and romance is introduced with the appearance of
poker players and mail order brides. Central to the plot is a beautiful adopted daughter of the good-hearted Madam and two newly
arrived brothers, both of whom fall in love with her.
Thoroughly researched, our play uses expressions of the early twentieth century and is rich in accurate historical, cultural and social
detail. Western music of the era includes classic cowboy songs, popular music, religious hymns and is performed by groups and soloists. The costuming has been researched and duplicated as closely as possible. We believe that this will be a highlight of the year's
entertainment. This musical has been selected as an officially sponsored event of the Arts by the AZ Centennial Commission and will
be advertised by the Commission as such. Be sure to get your tickets early for one of three performances: Feb. 7 & 9 (evening)
and a matinee on Feb 14 @ 1:30 PM. Tickets are $6 & $7 for reserved seats.
Computer Club
ATTENTION: Golden Vista residents!!! Many of our new residents
are a good many years younger than
most of us. You may already know
everything pertaining to computers, so you say ‘why
would I join the computer club’? Well, YOU may not
need us, but WE need you. We are in need of new people to join and bring new ideas to the membership. We
need new people who can teach and lighten the load
for those who have been serving for so many years.
Why not visit our meeting once or twice, see what we
are all about and what you may be able to do to improve our already great team of officers and members?
Some classes on our calendar at this point are Christmas Letter using Microsoft Word and also one using
Printmaster. To take the Christmas letter classes, it is
required that you have your letter already composed
and on a jump drive along with the pictures you want
included. An abbreviated class in Windows 7, (4 sessions and you must know Windows XP); also an in
depth 8 session class in Windows 7 which requires that
you already have good computer skills. We will be
offering classes on how to use the Jump Drive; Oneon-One sessions each month and an introduction to
Microsoft Publisher. Check our board in the mail hall
for up to date class schedules each month and also the
park website www.gvrv.us under clubs and groups.
We will be having some interesting speakers this season. They are often humorous as well as informative.
They will be announced on GV7.
Something new this season: Anyone taking a class
must have a jump drive to save their work to. This also
applies to Open Night. Nothing will be saved to the
computer itself. We will be offering these for sale as a
convenience to members.
The club is sponsoring a casino bus trip to Payson on
Monday, January 30, 2012. A signup sheet will be in
the mail hall or contact an officer for tickets.
We will be at Country Store each month to take your
orders for business cards and mailing labels.
Remember, to place an ad in the club's ads, simply fill
out the form next to our bulletin board and deposit it in
the ad box along with the necessary dollar amount to
run the ad.
We appreciate all of you who save your ink cartridges
for us and you can continue to drop them in the container in the mail hall.
Our First Board Meeting will be held on
Dec. 2nd at 9:00 am in the game room
next to the computer lab. The Board is
made up of the chairman of each committee plus the four elected officers:
Coordinator - Foster Richardson, Assistantcoordinator - Rai Ann Kramer, Treasurer - Carol
Dunn, Secretary - Diane Litzinger . All sewing room
members are invited to attend these meetings.
Meetings are scheduled for the season on the first
Friday of each month.
Wanda Hashagen is helping to get some classes
on the schedule since Marcella will not be here until later. If you have a class that you could teach,
please contact Wanda or Marcella if she is here.
Last year we had many very successful classes
and hope to offer as many this year.
Security is looking for members to sign-up for a
week of opening and closing our sewing room. This
is quite easy and just involves opening at 8:00 a.m.
and making sure the doors are locked by 8:00 p.m.
unless someone is sewing later and in that case,
that person will lock up for that night. Please look
at your schedule and see when you can help with
this.
If you have some time to help in the sewing room,
any or all of the committee would welcome your
offer to help.
Craft Shoppe News
The craft shop will have a

SHUFFLEBOARD CLUB
BILLIARDS
Welcome back shufflers. We look
forward to seeing you all again on
the courts.
Those in the shuffleboard community know
that one of the largest national shuffleboard
tournaments has just completed, that being
the Western National Team Tournament,
which ran November 7th – 12th in Mesa.
There were 24 teams of 16 players competing, and a number of GV residents took part.
It represents for most of us the beginning of
the season’s tournament play.
Our club is working hard to get the courts
into playing readiness since GV will soon
host the Can-Am doubles tournament beginning November 28th. In that tournament
one of the players must be American and one
must be Canadian. We usually have a full
complement of players, so be sure to get your
$7.00/player registration in to Ken Wardley,
Tournament Director, or Chuck Clausen,
Assistant Tournament Director.
Jackpot play is under way. Just sign up in
the shuffleboard shack and show up with
your dime in hand to play 2 eight-frame
games each morning at 9 o’clock, Monday
thru Friday. The sign-up sheet is also available for Saturday League which will start in
January. Get your name on the list to become part of a team which plays every Saturday morning in January and February.
Club memberships, at a cost of $5/person,
are available from Dick Tatarniuk and Lloyd
Sandau. League captains will also be collecting membership dues from their team
members. Shuffleboard instruction will be
offered once again this season – watch for
posters.
The first “fun night” under the lights at the
shuffleboard courts will be held on Saturday,
December 3rd at 6 PM. We invite you to join
us – bring your beverage of choice and a
snack to share – we’ll eat, drink and play –
prizes will be given out.
Til next month, keep shuffling
and keep smiling.
is the CUE
to GOOD SHORTSMANSHIP
Another fun filled season has once again commenced at Golden Vista. Most of the billiard players
are back playing the game they love. They are looking forward to league play, tournament play or just
plain fun casual play.
The East Mesa League Men’s team has started

newsletter will update you on the players and
league standing.
The Superstition Men’s League has a team made
up of six two-man teams. Play commenced on November 16th. The results will appear in the January
newsletter. The two-man teams are as follows:
Team 1 – John DiBiase/Gary Larson
Team 2 – Richard Meyer/DeLace Rombough
Team 3 – Jim Kindt/Coy Swanger
Team 4 – Peter Kuzz/Julian Saluk
Team 5 – Al Schumann/Bob Whitmore
Team 6 – Frank Burt/Dan Murphy
The Ladies league commenced play in the first of
December. Once again, details will be in the January
newsletter.
We invite everyone to come into the billiard room
and see the upgraded lighting. While in there, pick
up a billiard cue and play a game or two.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION
There are 2 positions (3 year term) on the Golden Vista Board

RECYCLING UPDATE from RECYCLE MAN!
What a wonderful recycling program we have now. We set out
our recycling by the curb for pick-up every
Thursday. No need to haul it to the
maintenance area any more. The nice
workers from RAD will pick it all up. There
are only a few things to remember so we
don't cause problems for our neighbors or
the recycling company.
► Be sure to recycle only those items listed
in the back of your Golden Vista Phone
Book. Please keep plastic bags, styrofoam, bubble wrap and yard waste OUT of your recycling. Do
not try to recycle these items. They must go into the trash: you
can return the bags to the grocery store.
► Place your recycling in an obvious plastic container or clearly
labeled recycling box. If you don't have a container, place a
heavy brick or rock on the pile of recycling so it will not blow into
your neighbor's yard on windy days.
► Recycling can still be carried to the bin located in the maintenance area. Boxes should be broken down if possible, or left for
a volunteer to flatten. Please don't throw recyclable material into
the trash dumpster.
Recycling is now so convenient that everyone will want to do it.
Remember that what you recycle creates new products and jobs.
Trash only makes the dump larger.

News from our Garden Guy:
Thanks to all of the volunteers who helped plant the flowers. They're
looking good and the rain gave them a good soaking. We could still
use a few volunteers to look after some of the flower beds for a few
weeks until the regular caretakers get down here. There is a signup
sheet in the hallway.
We'll be planting the vegetable garden soon with some of the vegetables that did well last season
and maybe a few new ones. We did bring a few bags of produce in to the food bank last season.
We put down a layer of organic mulch and fertilizer in the raised beds again this year to enrich the
soil.
If you see any problems with the landscape or you have some suggestions on what could be
done to improve the landscape just let me know and I'll see what we can do. If you have any
questions, call Bill from the Landscape Committee at 2990.

From the Window in December
By Don Mader, Office Manager
Thanks to all of you who are paid up with current
and past phone bills. Please stop at the front office
to check your payment status to
avoid an interruption to your long
distance telephone service (u no
pay – u no dial). As a reminder,
dial 9 plus the number for all calls
with area codes of 480, 602, and
623. For long distance dial 8+1+
area code and number. The Front
Office has been getting requests to hold items and
even money to be given to another resident. Please
understand that we can not accept this responsibility and must respectfully decline such requests.
Lately, our Front Window has been serving as a
“picture frame of joy” as we look through and see
the happy reunions of our residents rejoining their
Golden Vista neighbors. Hand shakes, back slaps
and “gladda see ya’s abound as they seem to pick up
right where they left off last season. One guy
laughed until tears ran down his leg!
The pace is much quicker at GVRV lately – the
other day I didn’t know if I found a rope or lost my
horse. But, because of the season, I still find time
to remain the consummate shopper - EXCEPT - after decades of buying the wrong color, size, and gender intended Christmas gifts, I shout, “Uncle!”
Probably like you, I have logged countless miles and
hours, and I submit, if you’re expecting a gift from
me, for most of you, it will arrive in the form of the
pervasive GIFT CARD.
Or… you might be one of the lucky ones to receive a
wear-with-anything tee shirt with one of the
following banners:
For my wife: My husband has good taste
My sister-in-law: Just be happy I’m not a twin
My dad: You’re never too old for NAPTIME
My uncle Bob: I’m too sexy for my hair – that’s why
it’s not here
My teenage nephew: As a matter of fact I did sleep
in these clothes
Me: There are three things you should know – 1. I
am not old; 2. …crap, I forgot what I was going to
say; 3. What was # 1?

Wanna get rid of a few Turkey Day pounds?
Begin by standing on a comfortable surface,
where you have plenty of room at each side.
With a 5-lb potato bag in each hand, extend
your arms straight out from your sides and
hold them there as long as you can. Try to
reach a full minute, and then relax. Each day
you’ll find that you can hold this position for
just a bit longer. After a couple of weeks,
move up to 10-lb potato bags. Then try 50-lb
bags and then eventually try to get to where
you can lift a 100-lb bag in each hand and hold
your arms straight for more than a full minute. (I’m at this level.) After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag.
Remember…when you stop believing in
Santa….you get underwear!
ARC Office FAQs
Often we are asked about certain rules and regulations, and why certain ones are not enforced in the
park. It is true that there are things that are sometimes overlooked or are left alone because of having
to deal with other issues that are deemed or considered “more important”. I am not by any means saying
this is the correct way of dealing with issues I am simply saying that it has happened. In an effort to better
educate residents on the rules and guidelines of
Golden Vista, and to encourage compliance in many
areas that have grown rather lax over time; the ARC
and I are going to start posting particular rules and
regulations on GV7 throughout the season. After a
short amount of time has been given for all to be
fairly warned, we will then be touring through the
park and approaching residents about that particular
said rule. One example would be having inside furniture on your patios and decks which is not allowed.
Other examples could range anywhere from having
‘for sale’ signs on certain items on your lot, to illegal
parking or unsightly lots and vehicles. There is much
ground to cover and our intentions are simply to work
with the residents in every way we can to make the
park a better place. My understanding of the rules
and guidelines is not a tool to restrict residents and
make them feel threatened but rather a guideline to
make the park in general a better place for the residents to live. Jeff Elkins, Compliance Manager

As a professional in your neighborhood, I've noticed many
"For Sale by Owner" signs. If you have been able to sell
your home by now, congratulations! But if you haven't, this
should be of interest to you. Selling your own property can
be a very difficult undertaking. To ensure a satisfactory sale
of you home in today's highly competitive market, the help
of a professional can be invaluable. A real estate Sales Professional can deal with the many issues that can arise from
advertising, qualifying a prospective buyer, finding financing options, mortgages, the conveyances of title, taxes
and closing details. The experience and expertise of a professional can come in very handy in motivating a prospect
to buy.
My company has access to out-of-town and local purchasers.
In addition, we have an extensive and highly effective advertising program. We also strive to protect your privacy
and won't waste your time showing your home to prospects
that aren't qualified or serious about buying.
When we list a home, an immediate and aggressive advertising campaign is launched, at no cost to you until we
conclude a satisfactory sale.

Tracy Lane sold my house in a week (it took longer to close)! I
was so impressed by her professional representation. I would
recommend Tracy to anyone wanting to buy or sell their home.
She was not only available, but also very patient through the
whole process. I am so happy that she was our realtor.
