Program 2015
The American
Baseball Foundation (ABF) is pleased
to offer the 18th annual BASIC summer program to Birmingham boys
and girls. The 2015 program combines reading related to sports, math
related to sports and sport skill instruction for students ages 7 through
12 years of age in a program that
lasts four weeks.
Each week day from 8:00 through
2:30, between June 1st and June 26th,
students will pursue a curriculum
that has them working in small
home or competitive groups to improve skills in reading, math and
sports.

Program Schedule
8:00 – 8:50 normal rotation—two groups inside, two groups outside
9:00 – 9:50 normal rotation
10:00 – 10:50 normal rotation
11:00 – 11:30 lunch
11:40- 12:20 STEMS—video related to sports and technology
12:30 – 1:20 normal rotation
1:30 – 2:30 normal rotation

Equipment: Field equipment will be supplied by the ABF. Each child may bring his/her own baseball/softball glove with
name written on the glove, however it is not necessary. Baseball and softball bats and balls will be supplied, so no personal bat or ball is allowed in the program. Sports equipment for other sports will be supplied. Bring water bottle.

Fun: BASIC students will form teams form sports and academic competitive teams within their age category. Field competition among the teams will be a daily feature of the program as well as academic competitions pitting teams against each
other as related to the reading and math information as part of the BASIC curriculum

Medical Release: Make sure that the ABF staff is aware of any medical problem that might prevent the student from implementing any of the drills or exercises usually associated with sports. Nearly half of the day will be spent outdoors.

Sports: Check names of your two most-favorite sports: __baseball/softball; __volleyball; __soccer;
•
Testing: Students will be tested, both at the beginning and at the end of the program, using the STAR testing system which
uses computers to implement the test. For students to gain in the areas tested, they must attend daily. A waiting list will
be created of students who were not accepted into the program, and those students in the program who miss two days
within the first five days will be replaced.

Transportation: Families are asked to transport their child/children to and from the venue at the times stipulated for the
program. There is no one available to take care of children before or after the program.
