Rugby Development Coordinator
The Toronto Inner-City Rugby Foundation (TIRF) is a rugby-centred
community development non-profit organization. Our goal is to
build communities through rugby and rugby through communities.
TIRF has established strong relationships with all stakeholders in the rugby landscape to ensure that
youth in priority and low income neighbourhoods have opportunities to participate in rugby. In addition
to support from Rugby Canada and Rugby Ontario, TIRF is funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation
(OTF), The Ministry of Tourism Culture & Sport, and a team of dedicated corporate sponsors.
TIRF works with Toronto based rugby clubs, schools, and community organizations. We remove financial
barriers to participating at the school, club, and rep levels for students. To date, TIRF is active in over 30
schools and nine Toronto rugby clubs. In addition to participation in rugby, TIRF has community
engagement initiatives that promote volunteerism, leadership, and academic excellence including postsecondary scholarships.
The TIRF Community & Youth Rugby Development Intern will be a motivated and energetic student
enrolled in a post-secondary institution looking to gain skills and experience in either Communications &
Marketing, Sports Management, Recreation, Physical Education, Event Planning, Kinesiology, and or
Non-Profit sectors. Ideal candidates will have an interest in sports and community development.
Job Description:
•
Rugby Development
 Facilitate a mini-rugby house league program in the assigned community with TIRF’s
partner clubs
 Organize free rugby clinics for players 12 and under in assigned community
 Plan and Deliver a “Rugby Try Day” at 4 – 6 elementary and middle schools
 Outreach
 Engage TIRF eligible schools and start onboarding process by conducting needs
assessment
 Ensure that any students/kids engaged are aware of the opportunities to
continue participating in rugby throughout the summer
 Organize and deliver low cost “drop-in” neighbourhood rugby programs

Marketing & Communications
 Ensure that all club and TIRF events taking place within designated community are
marketed well via conventional and new media
 Ensure that students and schools engaged are aware of TIRF and partner events taking
place in the community
 Keep parents, players, and community up-to-date on events and programs via tools like
teams-snap, websites, and social media

 Build multi-media content for the clubs and schools they are working with to showcase
players and team accomplishments

Community Relations
 Ensure that TIRF youth have various opportunities to complete Gainline Volunteer Hours
 Organized club based events such as community clean-ups; food drives etc
 Be an ambassador for the game of rugby in the community
 Organize a “Rugby Showcase” community event centered around a club home game
•
Youth Programming
 Assist with the recruitment for the TIRF Mentoring Program
 Facilitate social and educational events for registered youth
 Support TIRF during “TIRF Rugby Day” Event by assisting with ticket distribution,
transportation, food distribution, and player management
 Assist with any leadership programming for registered youth
•
Administrative Support
 Recruitment and registration at TIRF and non-TIRF schools
 Marketing and communications assistance to TIRF and Club using Facebook, Twitter,
Teamsnap and other channels
 Player management
 Contribute stories to the quarterly newsletter and periodic sponsor updates
 Monthly updates on key metrics
 Fundraising – assist club and TIRF at fundraising events during the summer.
Skills of the job:

Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Website) and excellent knowledge of social
media.
Interpersonal skills, ability to build and facilitate organizational partnerships
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong event planning and event management skills
Ability to juggle multiple projects/deadlines
Ability to work independently, and as part of a team
Knowledge of local community organizations, socio-economic landscapes in Toronto, and youth
issues an asset
Experience in sports industry an asset
Must have an inclusive and respectful attitude towards diversity
Experience working in a recreation facility, recreational programs, and/or special events
Be willing to work variable and extended hours sufficient to meet program objectives
