PTO NEWS
Our first month of the Avgen Gift Card
Fundraiser was a success. With only 14
people ordering, we still brought in
$185. This is an excellent way to support
and enhance our school curriculum
without spending any money over and
above your everyday purchases and gifts.
The next gift card order will be going out this week,
and is due back on or before Wednesday, April 15th.
Cards will be ready for pick up at our PTO meeting on
Tuesday, April 28th.
We had so much fun last month with our Family
Movie Night and Popcorn Recesses that we’ve
decided to do them again in April! We also have a
couple exciting events coming up in May! Please
mark your calendars for the following dates, more
information will follow as the dates get closer.

COUNCILLOR’S CORNER
April is the Month of the Military Child
Our military children and families help sustain our
fighting force, on whom we depend for the security and
safety of our nation's families and communities. In an
effort to recognize and applaud the courage of military
children, the Department of Defense in 1986 deemed
April as Month of the Military Child. While a part of
military life, reassignments and deployments can be
difficult for the children of military families. The
average military student faces transition challenges more
than twice during high school, and most military
children will attend six to nine different school systems
in their lives from kindergarten through twelfth grade. It
is important to emphasize and recognize the role that
military children play while their service member
parents are serving the nation.

HRSB GETTING TO GREAT SURVEY
The Getting to Great survey provides an
opportunity for students in grades 4-12, all
parents/guardians, and all teachers to share
information that will help us improve schools. We
are on a mission to make every school a great
school, but we cannot get to great without you.
Your voluntary participation in this survey will help
us to identify the strengths and areas for growth at
our school. This will enable us to enhance the
opportunities we provide for students to learn. Your
input is valuable in helping us make improvements
that will directly impact your child’s learning and
school experience.
The online survey will be available online from
April 20th, 2015 – May 8, 2015. Please visit the
website: http://survey.hrsb.ns.ca
More information will be forthcoming in the
