Radiant Comfort™ Floor Panels PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Radiant Comfort™ ThermalStar® Radiant Comfort™ floor panels are precision molded from expanded polystyrene with a distinct orange color. The insulation panels form a firm base for water heated radiant floors. Benefits to using Radiant Comfort™ include: No stapling required– the groove channels hold the tubing right in place x No professional design or shop drawings needed x Eliminate the hassle with using left, right, and straight panels– one panel is used for the entire installation x New construction panels interlock for a secure placement and to prevent concrete from seeping through the joints in heated slab applications x Table 1 Physical Properties FEEL THE HEAT BENEATH YOUR FEET™ New Construction Panels Retrofit Panels Panel Size 3’ x 4’ 2’ x 3’ Panel Thickness 2-5/8” 1” Accommodates up to 5/8” pipe Accommodates 1/2” pipe Pipe Size Panel Design ThermalStar Radiant Comfort panels are available in two types: new construction and retrofit panels. The new construction panels are designed to be installed prior to pouring a heated concrete slab. The retrofit floor panels are designed to be installed above the subfloor, and below the flooring option (hardwood floors, ceramic tiles, carpet, etc.) Since Radiant Comfort is manufactured out of EPS, it provides both a heating system template and insulation. Radiant Comfort panels save on installation time and eliminates the guesswork for professionals and homeowners alike. ThermalStar Radiant Comfort floor panels are backed by a limited lifetime warranty for both physical and thermal performance. Please visit our website for further information. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power. *Please allow 2-3 weeks for all Radiant Comfort shipments **ThermalStar Radiant Comfort is elastic within 1-2% deformation. To prevent long term creep, 3:1 design safety factors for static loads of the 10% deformation values are recommended, or use the tested 1% deformation values for design, http://www.ThermalStarRadiantComfort.com/ http://AtlasEPS.com/ info@atlaseps.com (800) 917-9138 ® ® CHEMICAL & PHYSICAL PROPERTIES Table 2 Chemical Compatibility of Radiant Comfort Physical properties of each panel can be found in Table 1, while chemical resistance is listed in Table 2. MOLD RESISTANCE ThermalStar Radiant Comfort has been tested against 4 week exposure to various mold and fungi via ASTM G21, D3273, and C1338 with no growth of spores on the product. Radiant Comfort provides no nutritive value for mold. However, construction practices greatly impact mold growth, and fungi have been known to even grow on glass. FREEZE/ THAW EXPOSURE ThermalStar Radiant Comfort has been tested via ASTM C1512 Moisture & Temperature Cycling for Insulation with no loss of physical or thermal performance. This test places the product between a cold chamber and a high humidity chamber with temperature cycling, measuring the effect on the insulation as natural moisture drive occurs. Inorganic Acids (Muriatic, Sulfuric, Boric Acid) Excellent Organic Acids (Carbolic, Citric, Acetic Acid) Good Bases (Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Hydroxide, Ammonia) Excellent Alcohols (Methanol, Ethanol, Isopropyl Alcohol) Good Beer, Tea, Coffee, Carbonated Soda, Water, Fruit Juice Excellent Household Liquid Spray Insecticides (non-aqueous) Poor Cement Excellent MEK, Methylene Chloride, Acetone Poor Antifreeze (Ethylene Glycol - Green, Propylene Glycol - Orange) Excellent Hydrocarbons (Hexane, Gasoline, Diesel, Kerosene) Poor Mineral Oil Excellent Other Oils (Corn, Motor, Palm, Coconut Oil) Good Agricultural (Manure, Feed, Urine, Soil, Fertilizer) Excellent Formaldehyde, Turpentine, Chloroform, Naphtha Poor Salts (Ammonium, Ferrous, Sodium Chloride, Sulfur) Excellent MDI-based Adhesive (Gorilla Glue, Fast-Tac, Dow Great Stuff) Good Bleach, Detergents, Borax Excellent Cured Mastic, Construction Adhesive, Hardened Asphalt Good Wherever XPS insulation is used Excellent Excellent = No degradation, no effect from exposure Good = some effect from exposure, but not significant for product performance Poor = significant degradation affecting performance, up to completely dissolving product This table is a guide only - consult Atlas Technical Services for specific chemical design questions SAFETY MSDS for this product available at www.atlaseps.com. Dust generated from sanding or cutting ThermalStar Radiant Comfort should be avoided using a dust mask as with other building materials. Radiant Comfort is combustible and the product should be protected from ignition sources such as open flames or welder’s torch. ENVIRONMENTAL ThermalStar Radiant Comfort Insulation uses air in the insulating cells, emitting no gasses. Radiant Comfort insulation is readily accepted for recycle. Based on extrapolation of pounds consumed and pounds recycled, the EPS industry as a whole in North America exceeded 30% rate of recycling in 2013. Atlas EPS is a responsible recycle partner, visit www.epspackaging.org for a drop off location near you to continue this success.
