Purpose of the Position
WWF-Australia runs a number of campaigns, such as Earth Hour, the Great Barrier Reef and Places You Love to
bring attention to important environmental concerns. The campaigns are diverse in their strategy and approach
and include communications and actions through social/digital media, traditional media, community outreach and
partnering with a range of stakeholders from government, to other NGOs to industry and community.
This role assists the senior Earth Hour team members in administration, event organising, logistics and systems
to help build a movement of supporters taking action on climate change.

In order to achieve our purpose – the conservation of nature – WWF-Australia supports and conducts
environmental research, education and community capacity building, on-ground projects, policy analysis and
research, and encourages all sectors of society – individuals, communities, the private sector and government –
to adopt world’s best practice environmental principles, practices and policies. WWF-Australia does not engage in
activities that include supporting a political party, seeking to persuade members of the public to vote for or against
particular candidates or parties in an election, participating in party political demonstrations, or distributing
material designed to underpin a party political campaign.
The Marketing and Engagement Department (Marcomms) develops, implements and delivers effective marketing
and communications activities that deliver agreed annual targets, benchmarks and measurements that showcase
the uniqueness and relevance of the WWF brand, build and protect the brand’s reputation and promote WWF’s
conservation goals and ongoing achievements to an external and internal audience. The department is
responsible for developing and implementing cost-effective integrated campaigns and other communications to
key audiences to either mobilise people to action or to inspire support both financial and non-financial for WWF.

Earth Hour is a stand alone brand and movement under the stewardship of WWF. It provides WWF with the
opportunity to help create a people-powered movement to help Australia cut carbon pollution and tackle climate
change. Earth Hour provides the public platform to mobilise supporters to help make progress on WWF’s climate
change priorities. It culminates at the end of March annually with the global ‘lights out’ campaign, providing a
visual protest for families and communities to come together to demonstrate their support for action on climate
change.
Nature and Scope of Position
Key Accountabilities













Assists with day-to-day tracking of the campaign goals and metrics;
Provides logistical support for meetings, trainings and other events activities;
Provides general administration assistance to Earth Hour team with projects and database management;
With direction, engages with a diverse range of stakeholders to communicate campaign objectives and
facilitate actions;
Maintains an awareness of Earth Hour’s campaign objectives, plans and activities
Works through the Manager with WWF’s broader conservation programs to ensure synergies between
Earth Hour and WWF are optimised;
Mitigates risk by ensuring any materials and collateral produced adheres to WWF’s Brand Guidelines;
Works constructively in alignment with WWF-Australia’s values and Acts with Integrity, is
Knowledgeable, Optimistic, Determined and Engaging;
Complies with all WWF-Australia policies and procedures and statutory obligations as amended from
time to time;

Decision Making
The volunteer position:


Works under supervision within agreed activities;
Refers request for expenditure, travel, ‘All Staff’ emails, complex or unusual issues to the Manager for
approval.
Communication
Teamwork is the preferred way of working within WWF and this necessitates regular communications with other
staff. The volunteer position communicates:



Regularly with the Manager on the progress of activities;
Collaborates with external stakeholders within specific parameters defined by the manager;
Regularly with staff to coordinate activities and share information.

Intermediate computer skills e.g. Microsoft office, Google apps, databases

Experience in climate change and/or environmental advocacy
An interest in Not For Profit organisations and social movements
An understanding of, and support for, workplace sustainability principles
Qualifications
Currently studying or completed a tertiary degree in Marketing/Communications, Community/NFP, Environmental
sciences/Geography or other relevant disciplines or equivalent work experience.
