advancing art and art education, with a special
focus on mentoring youth believing that arts
training helps develop the abilities to focus and
strengthens cognitive skills in young people.
The League fosters artistic growth in the
following ways:
SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS - graduating high
school seniors
MEDALS WILL BE
AWARDED FOR 1ST (GOLD),
2ND (SILVER), AND 3RD
(BRONZE) FOR EACH GRADE LEVEL
(KINDERGARTEN -12TH GRADE,
ADULTS AGES 19-24, AND
ADULTS 25+). WINNERS WILL BE
RECOGNIZED THROUGHOUT THE
YEAR AT GRAND CANYON STATE
GAMES EVENTS.

The Grand Canyon State Games Art Contest
fosters healthy competition, provides a
sense of accomplishment to all
participants, and encourages individual
creativity and original expression

Your canvas is blank and waiting for you
free your imagination with an array of colors
Draw, paint, collage and be artistically innovative
as the challenge is on to use creativity and
imagination to put your thoughts into art. The
Grand Canyon Games Art Contest promotes
creativity through art as an effective method for
artists for all ages (K-12, adults 19-24, 25+) to
express their dreams and ideas for a successful
life and a better community.
2015 marks the 22nd anniversary of the Grand
Canyon State Games. Over the years, more than
458,000 participants have had the chance to enjoy
the spirit of competition in sports games, and an
Art/Essay contest. The Art Contest expands that
opportunity to encourage artists of all ages to
convey their ideas through creative expression as
well. The vision of healthy self-improvement,
through friendly competition continues in the Art
Rules and Categories
Eligibility: All youth, kindergarten-Adults 25+
Each participant must submit only one art
piece
Judging: K-12 (13 categories individual by
grade), adults 19-24 (1 category), adult 25+ (1
category)
All entries must be 2-dimensional pieces of art
no larger than 16” x 20”
All artwork must be the original design
and work of the participant
All artwork submitted will become the
property of Grand Canyon State Games
and will not be returned to participants.
Artwork may be used in advertising by all
sponsors and the Grand Canyon State
Games.
Format
All artwork must be accompanied by a cover sheet
(attached to the back of the work) with the
following information about the individual
submitting the artwork or it will not be entered
into the contest:
Full name
Grade level (for youth) and age (for adults).
Address, including name of facility, group
home or shelter, if applicable
Signature in black ink
name and address of adult sponsor
Email
Certification by the adult sponsor that the
art represents the independent work of the
child
Adult entries must have adult artist
signature
Entry Deadline
Artwork must be postmarked no later
than May 8, 2015.

COMMUNITY CENTER.

ARTS SCHOLARSHIP
PROGRAMS”.
Themes: (Choose One)
1. WHAT IS BEAUTY? ALL THE WAYS WE
ARE DIFFERENT IS WHAT GIVES OUR WORLD BEAUTY. DRAW A
PICTURE OF YOURSELF OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE AND WHAT
BEAUTY YOU EXPERIENCE WITH THAT PERSON.
2. WHAT IS A GOOD FRIEND? GOOD FRIENDS ARE POSITIVE AND
SUPPORTIVE. VISUALLY SHOW HOW POSITIVE AND
SUPPORTIVE CHOICES LOOK AMONG FRIENDS.
3. GET UP! PEOPLE SPEND 700 BILLION MINUTES PER MONTH ON
FACEBOOK. SHOW WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO SPEND LESS TIME
WITH TECHNOLOGY AND MORE TIME WITH SOCIETY.
4. GET ACTIVE! ABOUT 20% OF TEENS WILL EXPERIENCE ANXIETY
OR DEPRESSION BEFORE THEY REACH ADULTHOOD. SHOW
HOW GETTING EXERCISE AND STAYING ACTIVE IS A GREAT
TOOL TO AVOID FEELING DEPRESSED.
5. GET INVOLVED! BULLYING IS EPIDEMIC AMONG STUDENTS
ESPECIALLY 4TH-8TH GRADE. 50% TO 90% OF STUDENTS ARE
VICTIMS OF BULLYING. SHOW WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO SAY
OR DO SOMETHING WHEN YOU SEE BULLYING TAKING PLACE.
6. GET HEALTHY! ROUGHLY 95% OF THOSE WHO HAVE EATING
DISORDERS ARE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 12 AND 25.
SHOW HOW HEALTHY EATING HABITS AND NUTRITION
ARE VITAL TO HAVING A POSITIVE BODY IMAGE.
7. AMERICAN HEROES. DRAW A PICTURE OF YOUR AMERICAN
HERO. IT CAN BE YOUR PARENTS, TEACHERS, FIRE, POLICE,
MILITARY, ETC. CHOOSE YOUR HERO AND PORTRAY WHY
