Dear Parents / Carers,
Red Nose Day : Article 1: Everyone under the age of 18 has all the rights in the Convention.
The school was a sea of red last Friday as children and staff came to school wearing red. Over
200 red noses were sold. We raised £229 for Red Nose Day. Thankyou to our ambassadors for
organising the event and to everyone who paid a pound to wear red or bought a red nose.
The impact of swimming lessons at the Olympic Pool : Article 24: Every child has the right to best
possible health.
Year 6 have completed their two week intensive swimming course at the Olympic Pool. Last year
54% of children could swim 25 + metres in Year 6. This has increased to 66% this year, with 47%
able to swim 50 + metres and 36% 100+ metres. 100% of children can swim without a float and
all improved the distance they could swim; many significantly. I am very proud of the progress
the children made and grateful to all staff who stayed late to make this happen. Of course we
are aiming high and aim for100% of children to meet the national expectation of being able to
swim 25+ metres by the time they leave primary school. Don’t forget there are swimming clubs
and activities running throughout the holidays at York Hall. Swimming is a skill that keeps
children healthy and can save their life!
Times Tables: Article 28: Every child has the right to learn.
Congratulations to Faheema Begum in Y5 Red who has earned all her times table badges and
achieved her certificate. Well done! Knowing times tables by heart helps children solve more
complicated multiplication and division problems as they have less to work out.

Easter Holiday
The school will be closed for Easter Holidays
from Monday 30th March to Friday 10th April.
School will reopen as normal on Monday 13th
April.

Entry is free!
Please bring food on Thursday morning, from your country of origin, for us to share
at the event and we will give you a free raffle ticket for a prize draw. Raffle tickets
can also be bought separately on the day.
Children are being encouraged to wear traditional clothing or clothing that
represents their identity to school on the day.
Entertainment will include African drumming and Bollywood dancing and there
will be face painting and henna stalls. All money raised from the stalls will be
used to purchase books that represent different cultures.
Come and join in with the fun!
Article29: Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must
encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and
other cultures and the environment.
Article 30: Every child has the right to learn and use the language, customs and religion of their
family.
