Every year Mr. Brooks puts on a celebrity golf tournament to benefit his organization, Derrick Brooks Charities, Inc. This year’s pairing party was held at Seminole Hard Rock Casino; and though there were many distinguished guests, including the Tampa Buccaneers number one pick Jameis Winston, it may have been senior and Salutatorian Deja Benjamin that left the biggest impression. Deja spoke to the star-studded crowd about BDCHS and her experiences as a Phoenix student. They were especially impressed by her current weighted GPA, a whopping 7.4539! Principal’s Corner This week marks the middle of the last quarter of the school year. We have much to celebrate as we enter the season of spring competitions and recognition. This week our seniors ventured to Grad Bash. We thank Ms. Fernandez and the chaper- Deja Benjamin outshined all others at the charity event, even “Famous Jameis.” ones for making this celebration possible. The inaugural History Bowl Team is back safely from the National Competition in Washington, D.C. Although they did not place, they gained valuable experience and made it to the highest level of competition. We thank Ms. Ferguson for all of her time and effort in organizing and supervising this trip. The Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) team competed at the annual MATE competition and placed second. We congratulate Mr. Fernandez and the hard work of the STEM students at this innovative competition. This Saturday we celebrated our wonderful volunteers at our first volunteer appreciation breakfast. PAGE 2 ...Principal’s Corner continued Our volunteers support everything we do at Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate High School and we appreciate all of our volunteers greatly. If you’d like to keep up with all school activities, highlights, and more, I encourage you to ‘Like’ our Brooks DeBartolo Facebook page. The next few weeks we continue with spring assessments and it is our students’ time to show what they know. It is a great time of year to recognize the yearlong efforts of our staff, students, and parents. With Sincere Thanks Dear Parents, Students, and Colleagues, I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for all of your kindness and support during mine and my family’s darkest tragedy. Mrs. Dorta displays Golden School Award. Your thoughtful cards, your generosity, hugs, meals, help moving my household to a new apartment, and continuous, daily support has been genuinely overwhelming. It is very rare to be surrounded by so many lovely families in ones place of employment, but my chil- dren and I feel very fortunate that you have all been here to help us, to comfort us, and offer us so many kindnesses. Thank you all, from my heart. Sincerely, Ms. Wanda Miller Relay for Life: A Great Success The BDCHS Relay for Life team raised $1047.00 for cancer research. We exceeded our goal of $1000. Thank you to all the students and families who helped make this a wonderful event. Next year we will raise even more!
