World War 1 uniforms on display
A World War 1 display with mannequins dressed in
soldier’s and nurse’s uniforms is on display in our Art
Gallery. It helps our students to understand how far back
in history the First World War was. It’s hard for them to
understand a gap of 100 years when they have lived only 11
or 12 years and these uniforms help to explain the changes
that have taken place.
Dear Parents
Around 100 people visited as part of the Chelsea
Sugar Birkenhead Rotary Art Trail
The quilts by local artist, Sarah Ward, will continue to be
on display in our Art Gallery. Sarah has recently won a
competition with a quilt depicting WWI. The mannequins
in World War 1 soldiers and nurses’ uniforms will be on
display until the end of the term. If you missed the Art Trail
please feel free to call in between 8:00am and 4:30pm to view
the exhibition.
Field of Remembrance gains ANZAC poppies
Our thanks to Peter Doughty, grandfather of James R12,
who donated 30 ANZAC poppies to place with each cross
on our World War 1 Field of Remembrance.
Community Notices
The information below is printed as a service to parents. The School
neither endorses nor recommends any offers or proposals made.
Boys Cricket team represent Birkdale in the NS
Zone competition
On Wednesday the North Shore cricket competion was
held at Freyberg Park in Browns Bay. Our eleven players
held their own against tough competiton. They displayed
great fairplay and excellent fielding skills to keep oppostion
runs to a minimum. Thank you to the parents who came to
support them, and Orlando R10 who scored the matches.
Last day for our Chocolate Fundraiser
Thank you to all those students and families who have sold
chocolates. Please make sure that all money and/or unsold
chocolates are brought into school as soon as possible.
The school is developing its Treaty of Waitangi
resources.
We are looking for knowledgable people who can talk
about the people who signed or chose not to sign the Treaty.
We are looking for people who know what particular
people where thinking when they signed or did not sign. If
you know of anyone who has this deep level of knowledge
or someone who could point us in the right direction,
would you please contact our office with details. Your
support would be most appreciated.
We played two exceptionally tough games, had heaps of
fun and played our best for the school.
By Jason and Nehemiah
Three students represented our school at the
inter-school swimming competition.
This was our best result ever with Samuel coming 3rd
in the 50m backstroke final. Mack came 2nd in the 50m
breaststroke. Justin also made the final in the 50m freestyle.
All students were a huge credit to the school. Thanks to
Pippa Wood for assisting on the day.
