Message from Ms. Clark:
Welcome to March Madness! For those of you who aren’t basketball fans, the saying still applies. We have had to make a number of calendar adjustments because of the snow, and we have
a number of big exhibitions, performances, and standardized
tests coming up. This is a good time to check the school-wide
calendar on our website to make sure you have the most current
dates. This is also a good week to think about how you practice
our shared value “passion with balance.” Our graduates often
say one of the most important skills they learn at Boston Arts
Academy is time management. Time management, like any
other skill, is something you have to practice. I encourage us all
to practice it throughout this challenging month.

Announcements for Families:
• The Boston Public Schools, as a system, is implementing a new
evaluation system for schools and they want every member
of our community--teachers, students, families to participate.
Family surveys will be coming through emails and will be available at our family conferences. We hope you will participate in
these surveys. Thank you, in advance, for your help!
• The next Family Council Meeting is on Tuesday, March 24. Additional details to follow.
• Do you have photos of Seniors? The yearbook committee is
collecting photos of the class of 2015. Please send images of
performances, exhibitions, selfies with teachers, photos with
friends, class events, throwback photos, photos with or of Ms.
O’Halloran to baa2015yearbook@gmail.com. Please submit
photos asap and no later than Friday, March 27.
• Ms. Smith from the PIC will be in the Wellness Office on
Wednesdays from 9:30am–5pm. If you need help with your
resume, finding a job, or you have an upcoming interview,
please stop by the Wellness Office during her office hours.
• Hey BAA! ASL Club E-Board elections are on Tuesday, March
17! So, come to ASL club this Tuesday during lunch in room
307 to find out more info. about what each position entails.
• Meeting for strengthening our community and advocating
for student voice: Now that we have gone through a whole
process regarding the hat rule, we need to collectively determine our next steps in engaging students and teachers in
creating our ideal learning culture. Please come to an open
meeting Wednesday, March 18 during tutorial in the Assembly Hall if you are interested in being part of a conversation
and process about how we move forward.
• There will be a meeting in rm. 302 on Wednesday, March 18
during lunch for students/staff interested in participating in a
performance to educate the community about & celebrate
Haitian history & culture/arts in honor of Haitian Flag Day.
• The Art of Writing: Monday, March 23 during Advisory in the
Library. Author Patricia Elam will come to share her craft
and her highly acclaimed book, Breathing Room. Breathing
Room describes the journey of two strong black women and
the coming of age of one of their daughters. The daughter’s
voice is heard through diary form and tells of her struggles
with self image, her ballet company, and her new boyfriend,
who is the social work client of her mother’s friend. Individual
students interested in writing are welcome to come.
• Looking for a summer job? The SuccessLink is now open for
students aged 15-18. You can register for BYF, the Mayor’s
Youth Council, and the Mayor’s Youthline at: youth.boston.
gov or call 617-635-4202 by March 27.

• Are you a girl interested in science, technology, or engineering? A Day of Career Exploration in these fields will take
place on Saturday, March 28. Students will spend time at
local colleges and technology companies, like Google between 9am-5pm. Interested students may pre-register online
at www.bostongirlsstem.org/setinthecity/. The registration fee
is $20 which includes lunch and all transportation. Eligiable
students may attend for a reduced fee of $5.
• Looking for a summer job? Want to work for food justice in
your community? Do you like working outside? Apply to be
part of the ReVision Urban Farm Crew in Dorchester! The program runs July 7-August 14 and pays $9/hr. You must have a
SuccessLink registration number to participate. If interested,
contact Shani, Farm Manager, at 617-822-3276 or sfletcher@
vpi.org. Info sessions will take place in March, so call now!
