The Principal of the Manitoba School for the Deaf (MSD) is responsible for educational leadership and the administration and coordination of all Pre Kindergarden - Grade 12 educational programming for students enrolled at MSD. Qualifications: Conditions of Employment: • • • • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada. Must have a valid Manitoba teaching certificate. Must have a valid driver's licence. Must have the ability to travel. Essential: • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Experience as a school administrator (early years, middle years or senior years). Experience with instructional teaching techniques specific to the field of Deaf and Hard of Hearing education and programming. Experience managing an annual/operational budget. Experience working with special needs students and programming for special needs students. Experience managing staff demonstrated by effective human resource practices. Formal training in Deaf and Hard of Hearing education. Fluent in ASL (American Sign Language). Strong oral communication skills in English. Strong written communication skills in English. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to resolve complexe issues. Strong political acumen with the ability to act with diplomacy and tact. Strong organizational skills and time management skills. Knowledge of the Manitioba Curricula. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Desired: • • CAEDHH (Canadian Association of Educators of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing) Certification. School Administrator's Certificate. Duties: Provides leadership for the MSD management team and staff on the development of programs and services for Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) students enrolled at the school. Identifies and assesses program needs and plans comprehensively for the development and implementation of programs and services ensuring that Departmental standards are met. Ensures the day-to-day operations of the school are completed and necessary policies/procedures are developed and in place. Responsible for human resource management of staff. Works in collaboration with parents, the Deaf community and the Parent Association or Advisory Council for School Leadership. Works in liaison with other government departments and service agencies in the development of services for DHH students. Oversees supervision and provides disciplinary authority over students. Facilitates implementation of all policies related to admission, suspension and expulsion according to the Public Schools Act. Ensures fiscal accountability of the school budget.
