Job Classification: CHARISM West Fargo Youth Summer Camp Program Mentor Wage and Hour Status: Part Time and Full Time Positions Available Reports To: Youth Program Director Position Summary: Assists in the implementation of youth program activities, providing enrichment and academic/social skills growth opportunities for participants of CHARISM’s Summer Camp Program. Minimum Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Working toward degree in Elementary Education or Child Development, or related field preferred. Experience working with youth required. Licensure/Certification Requirement: Valid First Aid and CPR Certifications preferred Representative Responsibilities: Interacts professionally with staff members, parents and children. Implements and supports culturally-sensitive youth activities with an emphasis on anti-bias curriculum, respect for self, others and property. Implements and supports youth activities with an emphasis on 21 st Century skills development. Is an active participant and leads in program activities, both in a group setting as well as on an individual level. Develops trusting, positive relationships with participants and their families while acting as a positive role model and mentor. Ensures the supervision, safety, and well-being of program participants at all times. Assists with the daily operation and function of program as needed/requested. Works with other staff members and ensures the site is clean and ready for the next programming day. Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of: Principles and methods of youth development and learning Oral and written communication skills English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary Ability to: Apply youth learning theory/principles to a diverse population Work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic diverse environment Work with low-income adults, families, and youth Interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures Establish and maintain effective relationships with youth and parents Solve problems in an effective and positive manner Adapt to changes in program planning Working Conditions Environment: Office and youth center environment (exposure to noise) Limited exposure to temperature extremes Outdoor park area Neighborhood swimming pool Various field trips Physical Demands: Lift children and moderately heavy objects Sitting, standing, crouching, crawling Bending at the waist, kneeling Visual acuity to review documentation Understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone Dexterity to operate a telephone and keyboard Wage: $13.00/hour Position effective: June 1, 2015 through June 30, 2015.
