Prosecutor having worked as an Assistant Prosecutor after law school and later being elected Prosecuting Attorney in
1992. He is a member of many professional association and involved in numerous civic organizations in the community.

Last Monday . . .

The meeting was called to order by President
Steve Naas. Steve talked a bit about the Oscars
and in particular best actor, Eddie Redmayne, of
the Theory of Everything. Our invocator didn't
make the meeting so Steve led us in a reciting of
the Rotary 4 Way Test followed by the pledge of
allegiance. Bill Nance gave the news of the day
update, addressing the Al Shabaab calling for
attacks on shopping malls in the United States,
Canada and Europe. He gave an interesting
Rotary fact, on this date in 1954 the first mass
rounds of Polio injections were given to 5,000
students and concluded with a story of a bank
robber that was so intrigued by a magazine in the
lobby that he stopped to sit and read it. During
the time he was reading the magazine the bank
employees alerted the police, who arrived to find
the man still enjoying an article. Tom Borchers
introduced visiting Rotarians and guests. Jason
Hillard of the Springboro Rotary club was our
lone visiting Rotarian. Bill Weaner hosted Jennie
Buckwalter from the Dean’s office of Wright
State, who is instrumental in the Arts Gala. Sean
Creighton hosted Maggie Varga, a SOCHE intern. Dave Williamson announced a Partner in
the “greatest law firm in all the lands”, Gretchen
Treherne. And finally Ashley Webb was host to
Dr. Melissa Gruys, Department head of Manage-

This year’s annual Rotary on The Road will
take place on April 20th. On this date we will
not have our usual Monday luncheon meeting
at Sinclair, instead Rotarians will sign up for
one of the following Rotarian locations. It’s a
chance to find out what some of your fellow
Rotarians do every day for their vocation.
Please sign up to visit one of these locations—you must be signed up to attend. You can either sign up at a
Monday meeting or email Laura laura@daytonrotary.com.
There are
limits set on the number of people per location so please give your first
and second choice to attend.

Phil Parks introduced this week’s celebrated birthdays
in attendance: Dick Meyer, Chuck Vella, Travis
Gibbs, Brian Martin, Lance Detrick. Bill Weaner had
his $10 Day-Ten moved up to $100 after Dave Williamson pointed out he “shamelessly” did a commercial for the Arts gala and that is worth far more than
$10. It was then pointed out that in introducing Dave’s
guest as being from the “great” law firm, he provided a
commercial and also did a Day-$100. Ashley Webb
asked for an amount and was given the number Day$50 for his son, Harrison, finishing out his Eagle Scout
award by collecting “gently used” shoes for St. Vincent’s. You can donate at Awesome Yogurt or the
Kettering/Moraine library. Chuck Vella gave a Day$100 for his birthday. Jerry Green gave a Day-$10 for
Rotary Reads… Brian Martin gave a Day-$50 for his
birthday, a Day-$50 for 2 years on the job and a Day$50 for the article in the Transportation department.
Dick Meyer gave a Day-$200 for his birthday, and his
grandson’s 7 month, as well as a Day-$100 in honor
of Al Dunn. Our first female president, Susie Weaver
gave a Day-$40 for the 4 team members in attendance going on the DECA Global Village Guatemala
Trip in March and a Day-$10 in honor of hosting the
Dead Man Walking star at their house. Jerry Leggett
gave a Day-$54 for the 54th anniversary of the Dayton
Peace Corp. Lisa Grigsby gave a Day-$10 for the
“Film Dayton” and the shout out to Dayton last night
by Ethan Hawke. And lastly, Jim Steen gave a Day$70 for the anniversary of the “Miracle on Ice”.
President Steve announced the District Wide Project
for Shoes for the Orphan’s Souls district to district
competition is on to collect NEW Shoes and Socks
now through April 13th. Matt Scarr provided a financial update: Our club is currently debt free, with a
profit as of year-end (June 30th, 2014) of $8,300. With
that, we have a current net asset balance of $81,179.
Chair of the Day, Jerry Hauer introduced our speaker,
Dave Brannan of “The Dave Brannan Show”. Dave is
a Native of Fairborn, and left home at 18. He traveled
to Indianapolis, where he earned his degree in I.T.,
and worked with Code-a-Phone. During this time he
started to realize his hobby of impersonations, was a
passion he wanted to turn into a career. In 1984, he
was named Showtime’s funniest comedian in Indiana.
In 2005 he moved to Las Vegas, to perform and was
there for 8 years until he needed to come home and
help care for his mother. Dave performed a multitude
of impersonations during his “Johnny Carson’s: Tonight show in the sky” routine. “Johnny’s” guests included: President Ronald Reagan, President George
W. Bush and President Bill Clinton.
He also
“interviewed” Rodney Dangerfield, Andy Rooney and
Marlon Brando. He closed out the program with Carnac the Magnificent and his telepathic reading of
questions inside of sealed envelopes.

AND SOCKS to Shoes
for Orphan Souls
District Governor Eric Marcus is
calling all Rotarians in Southwest Ohio to Participate in a District-Wide Project to collect NEW
shoes and socks for Shoes For
Orphan Souls
We will be collecting NEW
shoes and socks each Monday
at Rotary (or you may bring
them to the Rotary Office ( between now and April 13th.)
The shoes will then be transported to the District Conference in
Fairborn at the Hope Hotel on
April 17 & 18 and will be shipped
out from there.
Any styles and sizes are acceptable children’s or
adults however the
greatest need is for athletic
type
shoes.
Please
bring
your
shoes with the laces
tied together and no
need to bring the box—
we will not be shipping
them in their original
packaging.
The goal is for each
member to bring in one
pair of shoes—but of course we welcome you to do as much as
you can for this very worthwhile project.
