NUCLEAR POWER ENGINEERING
Since the early 1970s Hatch has provided a range of services to nuclear plants in
North America and around the world. We have conducted projects for many nuclear
generating stations in the CANDU fleet including Bruce, Darlington, Point Lepreau,
Pickering, Wolsong (South Korea) and Cordoba (Argentina). Using our expertise in
mining technology, Hatch has also provided services for the conceptual design of
geological repositories for radioactive-waste.
Hatch, as a part of the ASLF joint venture, was deeply involved in the restart of
Units 3 and 4 at the Bruce nuclear generating station on Lake Huron, Ontario.
ASLF’s contract included 45 different modifications. ASLF won the prestigious
2004 Schreyer Award from Canadian Consulting Engineer and the Association of
Consulting Engineers of Canada, as well as Power Engineering’s Project-of-the-Year
Award for its secondary control area (SCA) modifications. Hatch, as part of the HSL
joint venture was also instrumental in the restart of Bruce Units 1 and 2 in 2012.
Currently the HSL joint venture is active under a master services agreement with
Hatch won two awards for the restart of Units 3
and 4 at the Bruce A nuclear generating station
E.S. Fox Ltd. in the refurbishment of OPG’s Darlington nuclear generating station as
well as maintenance projects at the Pickering Generating station.
In South Africa, Hatch has provided EPCM services for several first-of-a-kind nuclear
projects including the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) development and the
PBMR Helium Test Facility.
In the USA, Hatch has undertaken nuclear plant prudence audits for numerous
nuclear facilities and is currently assisting Westinghouse with their AP1000
engineering program.
