Dear ONS members:
You are invited to the Columbus Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society (CCONS) 26th annual Spring Conference
Kaleidoscope of Oncology Care on Thursday and Friday, March 26 and 27th, 2015 at the Bridgewater Banquet &
Conference Center, 10561 Sawmill Parkway, Powell, Ohio 43065. Last year, over 200 nurses attended from all over
Ohio and surrounding states. Please feel free to share this information with all of your colleagues.
Program Description
Now more than ever, oncology care is multidisciplinary care. Our patients are more complex, the health care system
demands more efficient care, and health care providers are more collaborative and sophisticated. Kaleidoscope of
Oncology Care has been designed to showcase a multidisciplinary palette of oncology education. This year’s fantastic
speakers and professional presentations will provide you with increased knowledge and spirit to do what you do best for
all oncology patients. Please see the brochure attachment. Conference includes lunch and reception on Thursday and
breakfast and lunch on Friday.
Who should attend?
Kaleidoscope of Oncology Care is designed to meet the needs of all levels of nurses and health care providers that care
for oncology patients.
Registration, Directions, and Handouts
All registration information will be available at www.columbus.vc.ons.org/Spring Conference around Friday January
16th. The preferred method for registration is on-line. Paper registrations with check made payable to CCONS can be
mailed to Patricia Sanders, 570 Brickel Road, Jamestown, Ohio 45335. If you would like to send in a group
registration, please submit a completed registration form for each participant and make check payable to CCONS.
Please make sure all registrations are received before Registrations closes on March 20, 2015. Please contact Pat
Sanders at pat.sanders@osumc.edu if you have additional questions. Please see the registration form below.
Directions can be found at www.bridgewaterbanquetcenter.com. The closest hotels near the Bridgewater are:
Cloverleaf Suites Hotel, Hampton Inn, and Quality Inn.
All handouts will be available to registered participants to view and print one week prior to conference at
www.columbus.vc.ons.org. Limited internet will be available.

The raffles and auctions benefit the CCONS Scholarship fund and The ONS Foundation. Bring your checkbooks! Door
prizes include ONS memberships and an ONS Congress Registration!

Continuing Education
This activity has been submitted to the Oncology Nursing Society for approval to award contact hours. ONS is
accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s COA.

Meet the Faculty
James Bond will share his experiences as a patient and Kathleen Bond as a caregiver. They both are myeloma
Ambassadors and are frequently asked to share their 23 year cancer survival story with patients, caregivers and medical
professionals. James is a retired Ernst & Young partner of Ernst & Young, an American Cancer Society Volunteer,
and a member of the Cancer Leadership Council of University Hospitals of Cleveland as well as a 23 year cancer
survivor. Kathleen is an American Cancer Society Division Board member, Founder and Co-Chair of the ACS Pan
Ohio Hope Ride, former member of the ONS Foundation Board and former Chair of the American Cancer Society
Cleveland Hope Lodge and former member of the National ACS Board of Directors.
Dan Brunnert, MBA is the Vice President consultant for Floyd Consulting and received his MBA at DePaul
University in Chicago, Illinois. He works with executives, managers and teams applying the concepts and
principles outlined in Matthew Kelly’s books, The Dream Manager and Off Balance. With Matthew Kelly, Dan is
the co-author of Floyd’s team training offerings for both The Dream Manager and Off Balance, including the
development of the Off Balance assessment and The Dream Builder tools. In addition, Dan certifies all Dream
Managers® and provides ongoing follow-up support to professionals within the Certified Dream Manager® network.
Dan’s interactive workshop and training style helps audiences personally connect with the training experience and
apply the content to their life and management roles. His clients include a variety of organizations ranging from
Fortune 500 companies and national associations to small businesses and non-profits.
Anne Coble Voss, PhD, RD, LD is an Associate Research Fellow in the Volwiler Society of Abbott Laboratories and
is employed as a clinical research scientist at Abbott Nutrition. Anne received a Bachelor of Science in Medical
Dietetics and a PhD in Philosophy, Food Science and Nutrition at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio.
Anne has more than 20 years of experience in clinical research, product design and development, and translation of
research to consumers, health care professionals, governmental agencies, and professional societies. She has extensive
experience in nutrition research in patients with cancer induced weight loss and has participated in the development of
national and international oncology nutrition guidelines.
Gail Davidson, MS, BSN, RN is a Nurse Practitioner for the Regional Liver Therapy Program in the Division of
Surgical Oncology, The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center at the Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Arthur G.
James cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. Gail is an oncology certified nurse with a Bachelor in
Nursing and Master of Science degrees from The Ohio State University. She has held a variety of clinical and
administrative positions at the University, working with oncology patients for over 30 years. In her current role nearly
half of the patients she manages have neuroendocrine cancer. Gail has been involved in the Oncology Nursing Society
nationally and the Columbus Chapter in a variety of activities as well as contributed multiple posters and presentations
at regional and national conferences over the years. She received the ONS Excellence in Surgical Oncology Award in
2012. Most recently she was an editor of the new ONS publication, “Surgical Oncology Nursing “.
Terry M. Foster, RN, MSN, FAEN, CCRN, CPEN, CEN is a Critical-Care Clinical Nurse Specialist in the
Emergency Department at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, Kentucky, having been continuously employed
in this five-hospital system since 1975. He received his RN diploma in 1981 from The Christ Hospital School of
Nursing, Cincinnati; a BSN in 1994 from Graceland College Outreach Program, Independence, Missouri; and a
Master's degree in Critical-Care and Trauma Nursing from the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing and Health.
Since 1998, Terry has authored more than 35 professional publications in various textbooks, nursing, and healthcare
journals. He has lectured on a wide variety of clinical topics at nursing seminars and conferences throughout the USA,
having given a total of over 2000 formal presentations, covering all 50 states by the time he turned 50 years old. Terry
was the recipient of the Judith Kelleher award, which is the highest award, given by the national Emergency Nurses
Association. In 2010. Nationally he is well known and sought after speaker on nursing humor. Sit back, relax, listen,
laugh, and while Terry restores your pride as a professional nurse.
Paul Monk, MD, Medical Oncologist is an Associate Professor and Attending Physician in
Genitourinary Oncology Clinic at The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, within the division of
Medical Oncology and department of Internal Medicine at The Ohio State University, Wexner Medical Center. He
received a M.D. and completed Fellowship training in Hematology/Oncology at The Ohio State University School of
Medicine. His professional focus is the treatment of individuals with advanced Genitourinary malignancies. Dr. Monk
has extensive speaking experiences and published articles with immunotherapy agents and early drug
development/experimental therapeutics, and clinical trials.
Patricia O’Malley, PhD, RN, CCRN, CNS is currently a Nurse Researcher at the Center of Nursing Excellence
Clinical Nurse Specialist-Palliative Care Services at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio and a Nursing Adjunct
Undergraduate & Graduate Faculty Indiana University – East, Richmond, IN. She has 30 years’ experience in
undergraduate and graduate education and Column Editor for Clinical Nurse Specialist. She is also the Chair of
Nursing Research Premier Health and Palliative Care CNS at The Premier Health & Indiana University East. Her
research program was designated as exemplary by the ANCC in 2008 and 2012 for 1st and 2nd re-designation for Miami
Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Brenda Shelton, MS, RN, CCRN, AOCN® is a Clinical Nurse Specialist at The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive
Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins. She received her RN diploma in 1978, a BSN in 1984. She received a MSN in 1990
and DNP Doctorate in 2014 at Johns Hopkins University School Nursing, Baltimore, MD. She has over 35 years of
experience in critical care nursing, with a primary focus of oncology critical care for three decades. She has presented
regionally and nationally on the topic of sepsis and infection in oncology and most recently completed her doctorate of
nursing practice with a capstone project of implementing the sepsis guidelines in a hematology-oncology unit. Ms.
Shelton is an active leader in the Acute and Critical Care Special Interest Group of the Oncology Nursing Society, and
also works as an intermittent Joint Commission International Nurse Surveyor.
Amber Thompson, BSN, RN is a Disease Management Coordinator specializing in neuroendocrine and metastatic
thyroid cancer at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center and Comprehensive Cancer Center- Arthur G. James cancer
Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. She received a BSN in 2004 at The Ohio State University. She has
been a nurse for about 15 years and has a special interest in use of essential oils for her oncology colleagues and
patients.
Katherine Walsh, Ph.D., MSW, LICSW is a Professor of Social Work at Westfield State University and maintains a
psychotherapy practice specializing in psychosocial oncology, trauma and grief. She received her B.S. Cum Laude,
Smith College, May, 1975, M.S.W. Columbia University School of Social Work, May, 1977, and a Ph.D. Boston
College Graduate School of Social Work, May, 1990. She has worked in oncology for 36 years, including as a clinical
social worker at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and as the Director of Psychosocial Services for Hospice/VNA
Alliance of Hampshire County in Western Massachusetts. She is the past President of the Association of Oncology
Social Work and has developed extensive curriculum in Psychosocial Oncology. She is a co-author of the CPENN
Award winning Cancer Survival Toolbox, a self-advocacy training tool developed by the National Coalition for Cancer
Survivorship.
Debra Winkeljohn, MSN, RN, AOCN®, CNS is a Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Hematology Oncology Associates
at the University of New Mexico. Debra is an experienced speaker and published. She received her Bachelor Science of
Nursing in 1987 from the College of Nursing at the University of New Mexico. She completed her Masters Science of
Nursing in 1996 from the College of Nursing also at the University of New Mexico. She has an Advanced Oncology
Certification and is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society and New Mexico Cancer Care Alliance. She has been
past Associate Editor for Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing.
