Camp is open to any and all entrants limited only by age, number, grade level and/or gende.. r SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY Email CONTINUING EDUCA TION AND OUTREACH How did you hear about this camp: June 15-18, 2015 Ages 7-13 Sponsored by Saluki Baseball Southern Illinois University Carbondale CAMP ORGANIZATION The baseball camp will be separated by age groups for more individual instruction. All campers will have access to all SIU Carbondale baseball facilities. Every effort will be made to keep the player-to-coach ratio at approximately 10-to-1. CAMP DESCRIPTION Instruction at the 2015 Saluki Baseball Camp will include: Hitting Bunting Base running Pitching Supervised game activity The camp is open to all young players between the ages of 7-13. It will run from Monday, June 15, through Thursday, June 18, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Check in will take place June 15 at RICHARD “ITCHY” JONES STADIUM from 7:30 a.m. - 9 a.m. This will be a commuter camp only, with lunch provided for campers each day. The format is set up to allow the campers access to the entire camp staff and all SIU Carbondale facilities. Campers will receive a camp T-shirt and limited accidental medical coverage. TEAM DISCOUNTS If a minimum of six players from the same team register, a $20 discount will be given to each time of initial registration. All registrations for your team should be mailed together or you will be charged the full price. CANCELLATION FEE A refund, minus a $15 cancellation fee, will be prior to the beginning of camp. Otherwise, the advance deposit will be forfeited. PAYMENT SCHEDULE Early Registration $75 deposit is required to hold registration. Deposit is due by May 23, 2015, to receive the early registration fee. A NOTE TO PLAYERS AND PARENTS As a young person who loves the sport of baseball and wants to improve your skills, you should attend our summer baseball camp. Young players learn to enjoy the sport because our coaching methods work on individual skills to You will enjoy the game more as your skills improve. Plan to spend some time with us this summer and enhance your performance. Many former campers have experienced success at the high school level and have gone on to play college and professional baseball. CAMP STAFF Midwest. The instruction is led by the Saluki baseball coaching staff of Ken Henderson, P.J. Fiinigan andRyan Strain. In addition, the staff will feature Saluki players as well as high school and college coaches . . Ken Henderson was named the seventh head coach in the history of the SIU baseball program on July 8, 2011. A veteran Division I baseball coach of nearly 30 years and loyal member of the Saluki coaching staff, he enters his fourth season as head coach for the 2011 season. P.J. Finigan, one of the best players in program history, enters his fifth season as pitching coach from 2002-2005 and the 2005 Joe Carter Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year. He was a seventh-round draft pick of the Detroit Tigers and pitched for four seasons in its system before returning to his alma mater. Ryan Strain enters his fifth season as an assistant coach at SIU. His main responsibilities with Strain also assists with all recruiting efforts and the day-to-day operation of the program. FACILITIES Camp will be held at the Salukis’ brand new home, Richard “Itchy” Jones Stadium. The new facility features two different types of AstroTurf synthetic grass and is the first baseball stadium in the nation to feature AstroTurf’s new 3Di turf on the basepaths and the warning track. In addition, the field sits atop a new drainage system, which allows for the field to be playable almost immediately following any rain. Itchy Jones Stadium also features new, spacious, 56-foot-long dugouts, a new seating bowl and six new light poles, along with new wooden fences.
