Daily Express Sets Record
Daily Express Sets Record
Daily Express set the record for
widest load ever hauled in Ohio
this past December.
On Dec. 4, three owneroperators, John Klingler, Lloyd
Zurbrick and Nick Toll, hauled
three different sections of a
fiberglass tank to be used in a
chemical plant from Fairfield,
Ohio, to a barge site in Wilder,
Ky. Klinger and Zurbrick each
hauled a 31-foot-wide section,
and Toll hauled the remaining
19-foot-wide section.
Jerry Connor, operations
manager for Daily Express, said
he had to work with the state
for six months to get approval
for the unusually large haul.
Klingler, a 20-year owneroperator from Somerset, Ohio,
who typically hauls plant
machinery said the haul took an
hour and a half.
“It was interesting. I enjoy
this kind of work, and I
wouldn’t be in trucking if I
couldn’t do it.” Klingler said.
The Ohio State Patrol and
civilian escorts prevented other
vehicles from passing the convoy.
“I had really good State
Patrol and civilian escorts,”
Klingler said. “This couldn’t be
done without them.”
Because of the large size of
the loads, the truckers maintained speeds of 30 to 35 mph
on the interstate and even
slower speeds on smaller roads.
The width of the load also
gave Klingler pause.
“I had to carefully watch
guard rails and road signs,”
Klingler said.
When asked, Klingler said
that he would definitely haul
similar loads. “It was a very
good experience,” he said.
