Town Center Lantern District Street Improvement Project
PHASE 2A
Construction Alert / Look-Ahead Schedule
This Construction Alert will provide you the most current information for the Project, along with frequent e-mail
blasts sent only if additional work items occur that are not described herein.
WHERE: Upcoming construction will take place at the following locations over the following period (May 11, 2015
through May 29, 2015), although weather or unforeseen issues may impact the schedule at any time. Please also
see map below.
A) DEL PRADO FROM RUBY LANTERN TO GOLDEN LANTERN (INLAND SIDE) – The
majority of the work in this area has been completed. Clean up and general landscaping
will continue going forward. Also, there is still a portion of sidewalk that needs to be
completed at PCH/Golden Lantern.
B) DEL PRADO FROM RUBY LANTERN TO VIOLET LANTERN (OCEAN SIDE) - Parkway
Improvements on Del Prado between Ruby Lantern and Violet Lantern continue. The curb
and gutter has been poured and the street has been repaired near the gutter edge.
Placement of underground electrical, irrigation, trees/landscaping/lighting, and new
sidewalk will be done during this period.
C) DEL PRADO FROM VIOLET LANTERN TO GOLDEN LANTERN (OCEAN SIDE) – Demolition
in this area started during the week of May 4th. Parkway improvements (similar to other
areas) will commence during this period.
D) LANTERN DISTRICT ARCHWAY STRUCTURE/FOUNDATIONS – Fabrication of the
archway and other components continues off site. Archway tower construction that can
be done prior to the placement of the archway is complete at this time. The archway is
scheduled to be placed on the towers in mid-June.
The City is working diligently to maintain parking in the construction areas (at least on one side of the Del
Prado). There may be times when parking is impacted during various work activities, however.
WHAT: The City of Dana Point will be continuing with streetscape construction on the PCH/Del Prado Streetscape
Improvement Project, in the Lantern District, which will result in construction work on the following streets:
1.
2.
3.
4.
Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) between Crystal Lantern and Blue Lantern (COMPLETE)
Del Prado between PCH and Ruby Lantern (COMPLETE)
Del Prado between Ruby Lantern and Copper Lantern/PCH
Del Prado Entry Archway and PCH Banner Poles
Our City construction management team (City team) will closely monitor construction activities in order to minimize
impacts and ensure all work is done within normal construction guidelines. During construction, the public may
experience the following:









Businesses will remain open with parking in rear
Construction hours are generally from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday – Friday
During construction hours, one down coast lane of traffic will remain open the majority of the time
Access to businesses will remain available as much as possible
Increased truck / construction traffic
Traffic control / possible delays
Road detours, greater alley use
Noise / dust / vibrations to limited extent
Temporary on-street parking, sidewalk and bicycle lane restrictions
WHY: This second phase will complete Del Prado Street from Ruby Lantern to Copper Lantern. This will help
create the pedestrian friendly, mixed use environment for shopping, dining, and socializing envisioned in the Town
Center Plan. The Project is a result of years of planning and coordination between South Coast Water District
(SCWD) and numerous members of our residential and business communities who worked collaboratively to create
the Downtown vision.
WHEN: City Construction work started January 5th, following completion of SCWD’s underground water and sewer
work. City Del Prado Construction work is scheduled for completion in September of 2015.
