DANCEWORKS INTERNATIONAL BALLET SUMMER INTENSIVE 2015
PARENTS/GUARDIANS AND STUDENTS HANDBOOK
This Handbook is intended to give all parents and students a better understanding of our policies, procedures
and expectations. It is presented as a guide and reference source.
Our programme’s success and your child’s success depend, not only on the efforts of our staff and teachers
but also on your participation. We need your cooperation, help and support.
Danceworks staff work within the ethos of respect, inclusivity and harmony, and the many teachers, dancers
and others who use our busy studios every day are expected to adhere to these standards.
Parents Please note:
IN ORDER FOR TEACHERS TO INSTRUCT STUDENTS TO WORK TOWARDS BETTER BODY ALIGNMENT
AND MOVEMENTS, THE TEACHERS WILL NEED TO MANUALLY CORRECT STUDENTS WITHIN THE
CLASSROOM. IF YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR CHILD TO BE CORRECTED IN THIS MANNER PLEASE
CONTACT US BY LETTER BEFORE THE COURSE STARTS.
o Bring or send your child so she/he arrives to classes on time. That means arriving 15 to 30 minutes
before class.
o Pick up your child on time at the end of the day. Please note that late fees of £10 will be incurred after
15 minutes.
o Call or email us BEFORE class start-time if your child will be absent or late.
o Send your child to classes properly prepared and ready to learn. That means that your child should
come wearing the appropriate dancewear for this course (see below).
o Girls’ hair should be securely pulled back in a bun, neatly off the face before arrival.
o Remind your child to store personal belongings safely in their dance bags and to keep them with them
at all times.
o We encourage you to impress upon your child the importance of knowing who will be picking up your
child at the end of the day. We are not responsible for the students once they have checked out for the
day.

Casting policies:
Please note that the roles a student receives are the choice of the teachers and guest artists.
Students can best serve their peers by accepting whatever roles they are given and performing them to the
best of their ability. The production of any artistic endeavor is a team effort. A student may ask the Artistic
Director or Choreographer why he/she did or did not receive a certain role in order to learn from the
experience, but the student must be prepared to accept the response they are given.
“There are no small roles, just small minds”. Walt Disney
Emergency procedures:
A contact list of all student information and contact details, which were provided on your child’s registration
form, will be kept at the studio. In the event of an emergency we will make every effort to reach you.
Therefore, it is extremely important to keep us updated with any new telephone numbers or contact
details as soon as you know them.

Although centrally located you will almost certainly need to use public transport if you are to take
advantage of all London has to offer during your visit. The most economical and efficient way of doing
this is to acquire an Oyster Card. For more information on how to apply for an Oyster Card please visit:
