Nuclear nonproliferation diplomacy: Sameh Aboul Enein representing Egypt in
NPT in New York
Ambassador Professor Sameh Aboul Enein represented Egypt at the Review Conference of the
Parties to the Treaty on the Non- Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). The review
conference was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York (May 2015). It addressed
the three pillars of the treaty: nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation & peaceful uses of nuclear
energy, as well as the central issue of the nuclear weapon free zone in the Middle East.
During the conference Ambassador Aboul Enein convened with Ambassador Taous Feroukhi,
president of the 2015 Non- Proliferation Treaty Review Conference as well as other ambassadors
of the strong NEW AGENDA COALITION including :South Africa / New Zealand / Brazil /
Mexico / Ireland / Egypt , to push forward nuclear disarmament and a nuclear weapon ban
convention in the United Nations.
