EXCEPTIONAL LEADERSHIP FOR WOMEN
EXCEPTIONAL LEADERSHIP FOR WOMEN Every woman in leadership has her unique story. Many of their stories are left unrealised as they hit the ceiling and subsequently experience limits to their Leadership. This workshop focuses on developing exceptional leadership skills and knowledge to take women to the next level in their career. Created for women who are in leadership, this workshop will look at a more in depth and systematic understanding of women in leadership. The workshop will focus on three critical, research-based areas for leadership growth: • Intelligent leadership that enables women to succeed in their capacity as leaders • ‘Insightful directorship’ that unpacks the transferable skills and knowledge required for women as board members with influence Insightful directorship: Senior executives and high-potential talent bring, in many ways, a set of capabilities and perspectives gained from a track record in organisations. Potential c-suite committee members or non-executive directors require much more to contribute at this level. Processes, perspectives and dynamics differ significantly from day-to-day management. The shift involves moving from execution to oversight and from operational tactics to strategic foresight. Thought and focus are required to build the case for a seat at the table. Planning for the next level can be a rich learning experience giving new insight into what it means to be an adaptive leader. At the end of this session you will be able to identify the five key transferrable skills for the next level of leadership whether it be an executive committee or board role. You will also know the nine questions to ask to stress test whether you will get that next promotion. You will develop insightful directorship by: • Entrepreneurial leadership that shows you how to optimise opportunities for social impact. • expanding your knowledge of what nominations committees look for Intelligent leadership: This session will help you ‘read’ your organisational context and the implications for female leaders. Drawing on the Gender Intelligence Model, this session focuses on organisational factors and how these influence your capacity to lead. Once you can ‘read’ your organisation and how women in leadership fare, you can then make strategic decisions about taking your leadership to the next level. Focussing on decision making, as a key factor in leadership capacity, you will be encouraged to discuss and develop a repertoire of leadership responses based on given case studies and your own workplace scenario. • identifying the adaptive leadership skills and strategic thinking necessary for executive leadership This interactive session will encourage you to develop your own leadership talent by: • enhancing your awareness of gender intelligence and how this influences your leadership • identifying roadblocks to leadership in your organisation and how they can be navigated • employing a range of decision making approaches as a key component of building leadership capacity. • stress testing your readiness for next level of leadership. Entrepreneurial leadership: It is said that an entrepreneur is someone who invests in and manages business enterprise with considerable initiative while simultaneously acknowledging risk. Thought leadership is dependent on entrepreneurs who act on seizing opportunities in the face of inherent risk, pushing boundaries and paving the way for those to follow. Women have not traditionally been encouraged to take risks; now is the time for change. Enterprises require an idea, a vision, and a holistic approach to identifying opportunity. Using case studies and workshopping ideas, we will seize and act in this executive training session nurturing the inner entrepreneur. You will develop and nurture your entrepreneurial thinking by: • identifying opportunities for growth and empowerment both in your current work and with the group • developing partnerships and networks that sustain your inner entrepreneur • creating actions that develop your inner entrepreneur EXCEPTIONAL LEADERSHIP FOR WOMEN DR ATHENA VONGALIS-MACROW Dr Athena Vongalis-Macrow is Director of Educational Management and Leadership Program at Deakin University and has extensive experience in delivering leadership education nationally and internationally.
