Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food & Environment International School of Agricultural Sciences Application Guidelines for the Hanqing-Hebrew University Scholarship 2016 Applications are accepted until 1 August 2015 Dear Applicant, Thank you for your interest in the Hanqing-HU graduate student scholarship program of the Hebrew University's Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food & Environment. To facilitate timely process of your application, please precisely follow the instructions below. Email for enquiries: Ms. Noa Schwarzwald noapl@savion.huji.ac.il Eligibility 1. Citizens of the People’s Republic of China. 2. Graduates (or expected to graduate by 1 September 2015) holding a BSc degree, or an equivalent degree, from a recognized institution of higher education. 3. A BSc Grade Point Average (GPA) of 85 or more (on a scale of 1-100). 4. Academic background in the desired field of study. 5. Proficiency in the English language; official TOEFL, IELTS or ECRL scores of at least 100 (internet-based test), 7.5 or C2, respectively, which are the Exemption Levels. Candidates may be admitted with scores of at least 80 (internet-based test), 6.5 or B2, respectively, on condition of attaining the Exemption Level by the end of the first academic year in the program. If you have not completed your undergraduate degree, request a letter from your university stating the date you are expected to complete the degree. 2. Your academic transcript. NOTE: Although you may send a copy of your transcript, an official transcript not handled by the student and sent directly from your university is required. Your eligibility will NOT be valid without an official transcript. The transcript must include the grade scale. If you have not yet graduated, send a transcript of your current grades. They will not be considered. In the 'subject' of all emails, please write "Hanqing-HU Program" and your name. Title all documents with your name and type of document. For example: YourName_bsc; YourName_transcript1; YourName_transcript2, etc. Documents not properly titled might be lost! 3. The completed application forms. The forms are found here. Each document MUST be titled with your full name and type of document. For example: Your Name – Application; Your Name – CV, etc. a. Program Application form b. Proof of English proficiency (see item 5 in 'Eligibility' above) c. Curriculum Vitae (CV) – Should not exceed three pages. NOTE: only the first three pages will be considered. d. Assessment forms/recommendation letters. Three assessments are required. At least one of them must be written by an academic assessor. The assessment must be mailed in a sealed envelope directly by the assessor to our postal address OR emailed directly by the assessor from his/her university or organization address to our email address. Assessments received from the student will not be considered. Please note: An incomplete application will delay its processing and may have a negative impact on your assessment. We will notify applicants of the Academic Committee's decision within approx. two months. Please do not inquire about the status of your application. Payments may be made in USD ($) in one of the following methods: Bank check: Made out to: "The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Faculty of Agriculture)", with an accompanying letter clearly indicating the date, sum and purpose of payment, including the applicant‘s name and program name ("Hanqing-HU Scholarships"). The check should be sent to the address that appears on page 2. Credit card: A signed letter to the Division for International Studies from the card owner clearly indicating the date, sum, card type and number, date of expiry of the card and purpose of payment, including the applicant‘s name and name of program. The letter may be scanned and emailed or sent by post. The transfer form must clearly indicate the date, sum and purpose of payment including the applicant‘s name and name of program. Please note: Candidates must have a thesis advisor in order to be admitted to graduate studies at the Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food & Environment of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Rehovot. Therefore, it is strongly advised that you study well in advance the research activities conducted at the various schools, institutes, departments and research centers of the Faculty of Agriculture. If you are notified that you have been accepted to the program, congratulations! Please follow these steps: 1. Email a digital photograph of yourself. 2. Send the following hardcopies by post. The forms are found here. Medical Statement filled out by the applicant b. Medical Certificate filled out by a physician 3. Three (3) passport photos (hardcopies) a. About Visas A student visa is required for the duration of the program. If you are notified that you have been accepted to the program, you will need to apply for a student visa through the Embassy of Israel in China http://embassies.gov.il/beijing/Pages/default.aspx The visa application form is also available here. Timeline Last date for receiving applications – 1 August 2015 Beginning of program – 21 February 2016 Thesis Advisor Upon receiving the acceptance letter, candidates should email to ISA the names of 2-3 potential advisors in respective fields of interest. ISA will examine various possibilities and facilitate direct contact between candidates and respective advisors. Please note that advisors will consider mentoring candidates based on their academic record, scientific background, and the need to supplement courses missing in their undergraduate records.
