Position Announcement Title: Fish Culturist/Permanent/Full Time Location: Macaulay Salmon Hatchery, Juneau, Alaska Start Date: May 1, 2015 Closing Date: Open until filled Salary: DOE Overview: Macaulay Salmon Hatchery is a large multi-species salmon hatchery operated by Douglas Island Pink & Chum, Inc. in Juneau, Alaska. The facility raises 125 million chum, 1 million chinook and 1 million coho annually for the purpose of enhancing common property fisheries in northern Southeast Alaska. Purpose/Duties: This is a full-time permanent position that works under the direction of the manager and assistant manager and is involved in all aspects of salmon production including broodstock capture, eggtake, incubation, ponding, transport, rearing, marking and tagging. Other duties also include, but are not limited to, water quality monitoring, record keeping and supervising seasonal crews. Work duties are performed at the hatchery and other such locations as may be required in the course of hatchery operations. Salary, duties & level of responsibility will depend on the candidate’s training and experience. Qualifications: Minimum of three years of hatchery experience as a fish culturist. Graduation from an accredited college with an Associates or Bachelors degree in aquaculture or fisheries technology may be considered as additional experience. Must possess or be able to obtain an Alaska driver’s license. Must be in good physical health and be able to work in inclement weather.
