18 – 22 May
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is accepting
letters of interest from environmental and social consultants in Bosnia and
Herzegovina to participate in a capacity building workshop. The workshop will
focus on the following:
(i)
The EBRD’s environmental, health and safety, and social (EHSS)
policies, procedures and due diligence requirements, including project
monitoring,
(ii)
A summary of the International Financial Institution (IFI) banking and
investment processes, clarifying the differences in the environmental
and social requirements related to different investment types,
(iii) The legal mechanisms through which the EBRD and others IFIs agree
on, covenant, and ensure actions that are designed to manage risk and
drive compliance with their respective policies,
(iv) Sector-specific EHSS issues faced by IFI clients, and
(v)
Basic EHSS consulting skills, including the contracting requirements of
the EBRD.
The workshop will be organized and facilitated by a consortium led by Monkey
Forest Consulting Ltd. together with the Regional Environmental Center for
Central and Eastern Europe (REC) and includes senior international
environmental, social and health and safety experts.
The workshop will take place from 18 – 22 May 2015 in Sarajevo and is one in a
series of workshops that will be held throughout 2015 in Albania, FYR of
Macedonia, Croatia, Mongolia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine.
The workshop will use the knowledge and experience of the facilitators and
participants to clarify requirements and identify challenges in the specific region.
It is based on three distinct, yet complementary units over five days:
1. The first two days will be targeted more specifically to project managers,
owners and managers in national consulting companies.
2. Days three and four will have a more technical focus with sessions on
environmental, health and safety and social topics commonly encountered
in EBRD projects.
3. The fifth day is planned for the presentation and discussion of case studies
with an EBRD client, facilitated by senior EBRD specialists.
Participants may attend the entire workshop or individual units.
There is no cost for the workshop itself. Participants are expected to pay for all
needed transportation, accommodation and meals, excluding lunches, which will
be provided during the workshop. The workshop will be held at Hotel Hollywood,
Sarajevo. A certificate of attendance will be provided to participants.
The language of the workshop will be English. REC representatives will be present
to assist, but interested participants should have strong working knowledge of
English.
Spaces are limited and priority will be given to consultants/practitioners working
with local EHSS consulting organisations.
Other considerations in selecting participants will be:
1. Including a balance between environmental, social and health and safety
participants, especially for the technical sessions;
2. Including a balance of participants from locations in the capital and beyond
the city of the workshop;
3. Including no more than two people from any given organisation; and
4. Ensuring a diverse group.
