THE POWER WITHIN
THE VORTEX SUB
The Vortex Sub, the backbone and work horse of the Vortex
System, is a uniquely designed down-hole tool engineered
to increase drilling efficiency and reduce overall cost. As
part of the driller’s BHA, the Vortex Sub attaches to the bit
and creates a vacuum within the drilling fluid which pulls
the cuttings away from the bit. As cuttings are removed
more efficiently the driller’s Rate of Penetration (ROP) is
increased which decreases their cost.
The Vortex Sub’s three inverted Jet Helix Nozzles are uniquely
designed to create a strong vortex within the laminar fluid and
increases the fluid’s kinetic energy. Through precise engineering,
the nozzles utilize the Venturi Effect and create a vacuum within
inches of the bit face and increases fluid turbulence to enhance
cutting evacuation from the bottom of the well bore.

Increased ROP, decreased drilling cost
Extended bit life
Efficient cutting removal, less grinding
Allows better analyzing of cuttings
Less bit balling
Fewer bit trips
Interchangeable Jet Helix Nozzles to adjust TFA
Does not wash the well bore
INCREASING ROP, DECREASING COST
The Vortex Sub’s one piece 4145 steel body design with Regular API tool joint connections, allows for easy “make and break” connections
and instills confidence it won’t come apart down hole. The Vortex Sub replaces standard bit subs and was engineered to run in both
horizontal and vertical wells. Its three inverted Jet Helix Nozzles are interchangeable and are available in multiple API sizes to optimize
Total Flow Area (TFA) and down-hole hydraulics.
When it comes to decreasing cost by increasing ROP, there is not a more reliable and cost effective tool drilling contractors and production
companies are using than the Vortex Sub!

In addition to the field test, we had comparison test runs
with and without the Vortex Sub at the Catoosa Test Facility in
Jennings, Oklahoma. Drilling to total depth of 2500 feet, our
test results were even more impressive with increases of 27%
in ROP while running the Vortex Sub.

The Vortex Sub has been field tested and proved as an
effective tool in decreasing drilling cost by increasing ROP. We
had 12 runs with a reputable drilling contractor in the Permian
Basin between February and May, 2012 with very impressive
numbers. For comparable runs, they ran without mud motors
and maintained exact BHA equipment with the exception of
removal of the Vortex Sub. With each run we saw consistent
increases in ROP with averages in the range of 15 to 20%.
The chart represents one rig utilizing the same
equipment and drilling personnel with 4 runs with the
Vortex Sub and 4 runs without it.
