JOB POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT PREHEALTH DREAMERS
JOB POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT PREHEALTH DREAMERS PROJECT DIRECTOR ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW: Founded in 2006, Educators for Fair Consideration (E4FC) empowers undocumented young people to pursue their dreams of college, career, and citizenship in the United States. E4FC addresses the holistic needs of undocumented young people through direct support, leadership and career development, community outreach and education, creative expression, and advocacy. E4FC’s programming is designed by and for undocumented young people with support from committed allies. E4FC is a fiscallysponsored project of Community Initiatives. For more information, please visit us online at e4fc.org. PROJECT OVERVIEW: PreHealth Dreamers was started in 2012 by three undocumented college students—Denisse Rojas, New Latthivongskorn, and Angel Ku, who were actively pursuing careers in health and science. Denisse, New and Angel had witnessed firsthand the dearth of resources available for undocumented students in these fields, and envisioned a project that could support undocumented young people like themselves. In 2013, PHD became a project of E4FC. PHD supports undocumented young people by serving as: 1) a trusted community of undocumented students, 2) a resource of unprecedented knowledge on related career pathways, and 3) an advocate for increased access to health careers and health care for the undocumented community. In just three years, PHD has made considerable progress in making health professions programs more accessible to undocumented young people. These achievements include: ● The creation of a network that includes over 400 undocumented immigrant youth in over 32 states. ● The creation of novel programming for medical school applicants; 20 participants have successfully gained admissions to medical school within the past two years. ● Spearheading legislation in California to provide access to career licensing to immigrants regardless of immigration status with partner organization including: CIPC, ACLU, MALDEF, and CHIRLA ● Partnering with leading academic institutions to promote inclusive policies for undocumented students entering health professions programs. ● Creating public awareness about the needs of prehealth undocumented young people through exposure in prominent media outlets such as LA Times, KQED, MSNBC, National Journal, and Univisión. ● Receiving financial support from leading funders in immigrant rights and health care. PHD is proud to receive generous financial support from individual donors, family and health foundations, including The California Endowment, The California Wellness Foundation, the Leslie Family Foundation, and the WernerKohnstamm Foundation.
