EAST BURWOOD FOOTBALL CLUB
E ST 1911
RAMPAGE
President:
Rob Peak
Finally here is some
good news to report
with the Senior
side having its first win
since round 1 in 2014,
and thereby breaking the
longest losing streak the
club has ever endured in
its 100 year plus history.
Congratulations to all
the players involved,
with a special thank you
to those in the playing
group who donated their
match payments to the
Anti Cancer Council
charity. It was a nice
gesture all round.
However we must be
realistic in our view of
where the Rams are in
2015. The game was
between the two bottom
sides in Division 2 and
we still face the possibility of relegation in 2016.
There is a lot of work to
be done to make the
Rams a long-term viable
and sustainable unit and
part of this can be
achieved by ensuring we
win at least another four
games this season.
On Monday night I attended a meeting of the
First and Second Division Presidents at the
EFL, where the major
agenda item focussed on
the Community Club
Sustainability Program
that has been in action
throughout Victoria and
South Australia for the
last two years. A draft
proposed framework
was tabled for discussion
that involved the introduction of a two part
system of points, combined with a salary cap
that will be introduced
progressively from next
year. The general philosophy behind the program is based on four
major elements:
1.
Assist in the
equalisation of the competitions.
2.
Stop the inflationary nature of player payments by discouraging
the movement of players
3.
Promote player
loyalty and junior development.

Round 7. Sometimes you just have to go out on the field and be
brave about the way you play. Not only by your attack on the footy

and the man with the footy, but also how you defend, attack and

The challenge is to bottle that feeling of winning and realise the
commitment it takes during the week and on game day to execute
it. There is still much improvement in our team and it must come,

Round 6.
We certainly went into the game against Mulgrave with a quiet confidence that our first win
for the season was there for the taking. Usually
we get out of the blocks pretty well, but for
some reason this didn’t eventuate and we gave
up an assailable lead. This proved to be the difSenior Coach
ference for the rest of the game as we managed
David Calthorpe to win the second half of football. After a bit of
soul searching and honest analysis of our style
of play and personnel to execute, as a coaching group we decided to
tinker with the way we go about things. We tinkered and it payed
off......................
S.Henshaw
Round 6
I was really proud of the effort by the boys against
Mulgrave. With a good side in, we went into the
game reasonably confident. And that's exactly how
we started. I think we kicked ten goals straight
before kicking a point.
We attacked the contest and the ball with a fierce
Reserves Coach: approach and in turn we led for basically the whole
Craig O’Malley game.
After having a 3 goal lead with only five minutes to
go, we just couldn't quite hold on. The difference in the end I think was
that they had a full fit and able bench and we didn't and basically ran out
of legs.
A draw can leave a pretty hollow feeling, but the boys can hold their
heads up high for their efforts. But we must learn from it and be smarter to save games.
Round 7
After taking many positives from last week's draw, we went into the
Scoresby game again with confidence. With such an important build up
for a massive week for the club, I felt we were switched on before the
game. Unfortunately we gave them a 3 goal start and just couldn't quite
peg them back. I reckon we had 80% of the ball throughout the match,
but we just weren't smart enough about our disposal and were hurt on
the rebound.
We just need to be smarter and better with our forward delivery and
not piss fart around with it. Gotta give our forwards the best opportunity to score.
But again, we can take a lot of positives out of the game and in turn hit
Waverley Blues front on and really take to them, to get that first win..

It is hard to believe that our season has reached the half
way mark. Our 8 teams are all progressing well with
some recent strong performances from our Under 12, 14
C and 17 teams. It has been really pleasing to see
the support given to our Under 17 group and this has now
been re-paid in kind with two wins in the past 3 games.
Most of these boys are bottom age players and with
the guidance of Jarred Stafford the boys have really bonded together well. Keep up the good work boys !!!
It was great to see the senior side have a win on the weekend. This day was made even more special with the
Auskick grid games at half time. We had over 40 players
on the day and I believe this adds a great deal of atmosphere to the ground. Many thanks to Peter Begley, David
Mutimer and Daniel Naismith for organising this day.
There will be another opportunity for our Auskick group
to play during the senior game later in the season
The major fundraiser for the Junior Club is coming up
shortly and we would welcome support from the senior
club.

In the last edition the question was asked, “Can the Ramrods
take another scalp,” and the answer is “Yes.” The Ramrods
started the night winning the first 4 games and were stiff not
to make it 5. Tony Crampton continues to play better each
week and Wayne Putt’s pegging is also starting to be more
consistent. The big improver is Jeff Hutcheon who is starting
to hit some high scores and his pegging under pressure is winning us games. Manfred had the stare of a Grisly Bear when
at the Oche, although his singles never consisted of any high
scores he wore his opponent down with consistency to have
an important win for the team. Dani Kloet although she lost
her Singles, is starting to get back some consistency. Richard
Frosty Nelson is playing a much more controlled game, but
needs to hit some high scores to take out his opponents in singles, consistency is eluding him and it’s not for the lack of
trying. The Ramrods now jump to 6th on the ladder with 6
wins. The teams above are all locked on 7 wins so we’re not
far off the pace. This week we take on The Tigers, it’s a must
win game if we are to continue our climb up the ladder.
The Rammers had a walk over against the Dales, The Rammers face bottom side The Anglers.
Well done to the Rams on their win against Scoresby.
