Job Opportunity: Curriculum Development Consultant
Job Opportunity: Curriculum Development Consultant
EdLabs seeks qualified curriculum consultants to develop an innovative guided reading curriculum for 8th
grade students. EdLabs has partnered with the NYC Department of Education to implement daily
intensive reading tutoring during expanded school day programming in 19 middle schools in New York
City. In 2014-2015, tutoring was offered to 6th and 7th grade students. In 2015-2016, we hope to also
offer it to 8th grade students. The tutoring program is based on a research-proven model from school
turnaround projects in Houston and Denver. Selected student participate in daily guided reading tutorials
with the same tutor for one hour each day, during ExpandED after-school programming run by The After
School Corporation (TASC) or during a strategic literacy period during the traditional school day.
In order to maximize the effectiveness of the tutoring corps, consultants will develop curriculum guides
for a selected set of high-quality age-appropriate books that tutors will use to run guided reading sessions
with students. EdLabs is currently seeking consultants who are interested in developing history books
about topics such as the 1920s, the Beatles and Lincoln. Consultants contracted to do this work will be
expected to develop chapter-by-chapter curriculum guides for this guided reading tutoring curriculum
according to a template provided to them by EdLabs.
