Young Social Entrepreneurs 2015 Shortlisted Teams Cooking Travel Village Cooking Travel Village Member: Le Thuy Binh, 23 (Vietnamese) Field of social enterprise: Economic development, Food and Beverage Location of social enterprise: Vietnam Cooking Travel Village seeks to provide employment to low-income families, especially single parents, through its self-service restaurant chain. The restaurant is targeted at tourists who are interested to learn about local cooking and cuisine taught by the local community. CTLR (Cacing Tanah Lumbricus rubellus) Members: Alif Haidir Adana, 21; Ahmad Adhi Jatmiko, 21 and Agung Dwi Prasetyo, 21 (Indonesians) Field of social enterprise: Environment, Agriculture Location of social enterprise: Indonesia CTLR seeks to improve the standard of living of rural dwellers in Argosari village, Indonesia, by providing them with alternative income through the cultivation of earthworms, or lumbricus rubellus. These earthworms can potentially become the solution to pollution caused by waste bio-gas in the regency. Ecodoe Members: Larasati Widyaputri, 22 and Tatang Gunawan, 21 (Indonesians) Field of social enterprise: Economic Development, Recycle Location of social enterprise: Indonesia Ecodoe seeks to provide employment opportunities for the unemployed and also for craftsmen in Garut, Indonesia. It intends to do so through the production of high-quality handmade tapestry products which are made from sheep fur and aromatherapy grass (or akarwangi). Young Social Entrepreneurs 2015 Shortlisted Teams Gap Year Guide Member: Kelyn Tan Po Yin, 21 (Singaporean) Field of social enterprise: Education, youth Location of social enterprise: Singapore Gap Year Guide seeks to offer advice, motivation and useful tools to tertiary graduates intending to take a year off before pursuing a university education. Through its online portal, it aims to guide youth on how to manage and make full use of their time, energy and money, to discover their passion. heySTARTIC Member: Vania Santoso, 23 (Indonesian) Field of social enterprise: Environment, economic development Location of social enterprise: Indonesia heySTARTIC seeks to help marginalised individuals generate income through the production of exclusive recycled products for the fashion industry. It intends to do so by providing free training on waste management, marketing and product innovation for them. OSIRIS Members: Aldo Egi Ibrahim, 22; Sheila Reswari, 22 and Ali Bahtiar Sirry, 21 (Indonesians) Field of social enterprise: Economic development, disability Location of social enterprise: Indonesia OSIRIS seeks to empower a community of disabled people and dragon fruit farmers from rural areas in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, to gain higher income and create an inclusive society for them. It intends to do so by producing fresh and healthy dragon fruit ice cream and dragon fruit tea, keeping in line with the rising trend of healthy living. With a higher standard of production and better marketing, the industry will be able to attract investors, and ultimately contribute positively to society’s welfare. Kowang Home-Based Breeding Members: Dimas Agung Saputra, 22, Rio Trimono, 22; Azizon, 24 (Indonesians) Field of social enterprise: Economic development, agriculture Location of social enterprise: Indonesia Kowang Home-based Breeding seeks to improve the livelihoods of local breeders in Kowang, Indonesia. It intends to do so by building strong business networks for the breeders and seeking opportunities for them. Oldies Foodies Member: Tiffany Ip, 17 (Chinese) Field of social enterprise: Economic development, elderly Location of social enterprise: Hong Kong Oldies Foodies seeks to provide employment for the elderly population in Hong Kong throughZits food delivery service. It intends to do so through its internet platform that allows customers to order old-fashioned Chinese cuisine prepared by elderly employers. Young Social Entrepreneurs 2015 Shortlisted Teams Project Ubuntu Members: Peh Gao Xian, 20, Jocelyn Gwee, 19 (Singaporeans) and Lau Ee Min, 20 (Malaysian) Field of social enterprise: Arts and culture, Disability Location of social enterprise: Singapore Project Ubuntu seeks to find employment for disadvantaged artists by linking them to mentors and businesses. This includes artists with disabilities, in financial difficulty or with any other medical condition such as mental illness. It intends to do so by showcasing their artistic services and selling the products through its network of stores. The Lockr Member: Khairuddin Anshar, 26 (Singaporean) Field of social enterprise: Education, Youth Location of social enterprise: Singapore The Lockr seeks to provide at-risk youths with a fun, positive outlet for their energy through the development of individual competencies. It intends to do so through the fun physical challenge of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu while building their social skills with the guidance of mentors. Twice Members: Shinney Lim, 21, Stuart Thomas, 21 (Malaysians), Pham Nguyen Nhu Quynh, 20 (Vietnamese) Field of social enterprise: Environment, Recycle Location of social enterprise: Malaysia Twice seeks to raise awareness for environment sustainability by creating value from used items. It intends to establish a sustainable business by refurbishing and selling leftover items from university hostels. This platform also allows employees to assess the impact of these initiatives through impact investment reports and social data. WateROAM Members: David Pong, 25 and Lim Chong Tee, 23 (Singaporeans) and Vincent Loka, 21 (Indonesian) Field of social enterprise: Healthcare, Sanitation Location of social Enterprise: Singapore WateROAM seeks to bring simple, portable and durable water filtration solutions to disaster-stricken sites in developing countries.
