Four school authorities in Alberta were
recently involved in a two-year mixed
methods case study of technology in
early grades. Teachers used an
inquiry framework to design
worthwhile and technology-rich
learning tasks supported by a
research community of practice.
Presenters will share findings and
implications for teachers and school
leaders in developing
technology-enabled, inquiry-based
learning spaces for young learners.
Presenters: Dr. Michelle Jacobsen
and
Dr. Barb Brown, University of Calgary
Anthony Hampshire,
Galileo Education Network
Association

Join Cheryl Lemke from Metiri Group
as she shares how various
jurisdictions internationally are
approaching the issues of access,
infrastructure and digital resources to
meet the learning needs of all
students.
Presenter: Cheryl Lemke, Metiri
Group
How do school authorities manage
what seems like insatiable demand for
appropriate technology and support
when resources are constrained?
Find out how one school authority
communicates what IT does and what
it costs to increase engagement of
educational leaders in IT financial
decisions. Learn about the process
used, the tools developed, and how to
access and use them in your school
authority.
Presenters: Jeff Murray and Ron
Eberts,
Red Deer Public Schools
Angie Tarasoff, Alberta Education
Join School Technology Branch’s
videoconferencing (VC) support team

about the current technical state of
Video Communication in Alberta’s K12 system.
Participants will have the opportunity
to discuss VC configuration options,
what’s working well and what
challenges you may be encountering.

Flexible Pathways to Success was a
two-year project that explored the
impact of technology on student
learning in inclusive learning
environments. In particular, it was
interested in supporting learner
differences with regards to cognitive
ability (i.e., from cognitive disability
to gifted).
Join participants from Rocky View
Schools to hear their flexible
pathways to success story, as they
share what they set out to
accomplish, strategies used,
obstacles encountered, results and
lessons learned.

How do you know if you are making
progress on using technology to
support student learning? Join this
session to learn how others around the
world use metrics to track the journey
of policies into practice and to
contribute your ideas about what
indicators and sources of evidence
make sense.
Presenter: Cheryl Lemke, Metiri

Wolf Creek team members will share
about our journey so far as we work
with teachers and students to
positively transform learning and
effectively integrate new and
emerging technologies in the
classroom.
Learn about Peace Wapiti School
Division’s journey in moving their
infrastructure to a third party hosted
provider— the decision making process,
the rationale, where they are at today
and what they plan to do in the future.
Attendees will hear about how we are
using purposeful design to develop
future-ready classrooms.

Alberta Education recently released a
new Inclusive Education Resource
video series with discussion guides.
The series is called
Building a Shared Understanding for
Supporting Every Student.
Cloud-based services provide a vast
array of opportunities for student
learning and efficient administration of
education. However, there are privacy
risks that need to be addressed.
How do you move an entire rural
school authority toward a studentcentred approach to learning? How do
you build buy-in and unleash the
power of educators to innovate, while
managing risk and balancing
workloads?
This session will focus on the two
videos out of the nine-video series
that relate to technology: Making
Sense of Universal Design for
Learning and Using Assistive
Technology to Support Learning.
Presenter: Belina Caissie, Alberta
Education
