th 7 World Water Forum 2015 Visa Guidelines March 2015 Visa Guidelines for Participants General Information All foreign national travelling to the Republic of Korea must be in possession of a passport (no less than 6 months validity) and a visa which suits the purpose of one's visit. Visas are issued by the Embassy or Consulate of the Republic of Korea under assignment by the Minister of Justice. However, a person meeting certain qualifications may enter Korea without a visa. For more detailed information, please refer to the ‘Visa Free Entry’ section. Please be informed that a representative of the foreign media travelling for temporary news coverage or reporting purposes must obtain a visa regardless of visa exemption agreements. Designated Visa-free Entry Considering international convention, mutuality doctrine, national profit and other such factors, certain countries are granted visa-free entry permissions. Nationals of the following countries/territories are allowed up to 30 days of visa-free sojourn for tourism or visitation.(Exceptions: Canada is allowed up to 6 months, and the United States, Australia, Hong Kong (People’s Rep. of China), Slovenia, and Japan are allowed up to 90 days) Countries/territories that are granted visa-free entry for diplomatic, government official, and ordinary passport holders. Holders of passports issued by recognized international organizations A staff member of the United Nations, its Funds and Programmes or a Specialized Agency with a travel document, namely, LAISSEZ-PASSER issued by the U.N. Office is allowed to enter Korea without a visa and is granted to stay for 30 days. -5- Visa Application Upon request, duly registered participants will be supported for visa issuance by receiving an Invitation Letter for Visa from the Host Country 7th World Water Forum 2015 Secretariat. To apply for a visa under these arrangements, please take the following procedures: 1) During Online Registration in the 7th World Water Forum 2015, you should tick the box. “Do you request an Invitation letter for a visa?” to request for an Invitation letter for a visa. 2) Participants are not able to receive an Invitation letter for a visa until they make their Registration payment in full. 3) Please send a copy of your passport andyour Registration Number by March 23, 2015. 4) Apply for a visa at the Korean Embassy or Consulate in your country or country of current residence with the required documents: - Valid passport (at least 6 months validity from the date of entry) - Visa Application Form (provided by Korean Embassy or Consulate) - Invitation Letter for Visa from the Host Country 7th World Water Forum Secretariat - One standard size photograph (taken within the last 6 months) -6- Important Notes A person entering the Republic of Korea on the basis of a visa waiver agreement or transit is prohibited from extending the period of sojourn or changing the status of sojourn. Therefore, if one's stay exceeds the period of sojourn that the agreement or Minister of Justice specifies, a visa suiting one's purpose and period of stay should be obtained before arriving in the Republic of Korea. The time it takes to issue a visa differs by Embassy, and may take a considerable period depending on circumstances. Therefore, applying for a visa in advance is highly recommended, at least 3 weeks before departure.
