2 page PRODUCT DATA SHEET Matacryl® BITU-PRIMER Primer/Sealer for use under asphalt & bitumen based waterproofing systems Description: ® Matacryl Bitu-Primer is a low viscous, transparent, 2 component reactive resin based on methyl methacrylate (MMA). Properties: • Excellent adhesion to concrete and metal • Fast curing even at low temperatures down to -5°C • For critical weather conditions • Resists heat from asphalt based waterproofing • For use on fresh concrete Areas of Application: ® Matacryl Bitu-Primer is intended for use as a primer/sealer under asphalt or bitumen waterproofing. It has excellent bond to concrete and metal substrates and also provides a good bond for following waterproofing system. Technical Characteristics (liquid state): Viscosity, 25°C: 120-160 mPa*s DIN 53018 Density, 25°C: Approx. 1.00 g/ml ISO 2811 Pot life / processing time at 20°C: Approx. 15 min. Curing time at 20°C: Approx. 45-90 min. Flash Point: + 11.5°C: ISO 1516 Colour: Transparent/red Please note that an objective comparison with other data is only possible if norms and parameters are identical. It is essential the product is stored in a cool and dry place, protected from direct sunshine and in unbroken originally closed packaging. The optimal storage temperature is 15- 20°C. Substrate Preparation: All substrates must be dry, firm, solid and free of dust, laitance, grease and oil. Substrate temperature may range from 0°C to +40°C with a moisture content of maximum 8% weight. Application at dew point should be avoided. Surface structure shall allow the correct application of the primer. • Surface tensile strength shall be min. 1.5 MPa. • Mechanical preparation shall expose concrete aggregate. • Visible pinholes and craters shall be filled separately using filled primer or suitable cement mortar. Mixing: ® Prior to use Matacryl Bitu-Primer must be carefully stirred to achieve a uniform distribution of the paraffin ® and pigment contained in the product. Matacryl Bitu-Primer is tho-roughly mixed together with the ® Matacryl Catalyst (50% dibenzoyl peroxide), in accordance with the below guidelines. It should be noted that the amount of catalyst powder to be added depends upon the substrate temperature: at 30°C at 20°C at 10°C at 0°C at -5°C add 1% add 2% add 4% add 5% add 6% by weight by weight by weight by weight by weight of resin of resin of resin of resin of resin Note: Weight to Volumetric conversion of Catalyst. 3 ® 1cm of Matacryl Catalyst weighs 0.64g ® 3 1g of Matacryl Catalyst = 1.57cm 40 MPa The information in this product data sheet is based on our experience and testing. Special care must be observed if area is under exposure to direct sunshine. • Substrate temperature must be at least 3°C over actual dew point. • Avoid application if relative humidity in air is above 90 % and also in foggy conditions. The complete primer/sealer system consists of two coats. The first coat is applied by squeegee and back- rolled at a rate of 0.5 kg/m2 and while still fresh broad- cast with quartz size 0.7 – 1.2 mm at approx. 1 kg/m2. A second layer is then applied by roller at a rate of 0.4- 0.6 kg/m2 and allowed to cure. Health & Safety Precautions: Suitable protective clothing, gloves and safety goggles must be worn during mixing and application ® of Matacryl Bitu-Primer. When the product is applied in enclosed areas without natural ventilation, forced ventilation must be arranged. Avoid strong concentration of vapour as well as direct contact with skin or eyes. ® Matacryl Bitu-Primer is highly flammable; keep away from heat and all sources of ignition and do not smoke. The stirrer as well as all the other electric appliances used on the application site must be explosion-proof versions. For further information see our Material Safety Data Sheet.
